I think WSW are a better outfit than last year, and are certainly more likely to be in the six. Got found out last night by pace, but will be interesting to see whether that was a blip or a more long term weakness. CCM are going to be the classic wild card, great on their day, but still beatable. Losing Kuol after Christmas will be significant because he's a game changer. But definitely a likely top six contender. Victory are just vile and filthy and cheat but unfortunately have some decent players. Albeit they are not as good as they think they are. Newcastle are underperforming, Perth look woeful. Been some odd results this weekend, Sydney have blown up, Brisbane suddenly found some form, and Wellington come good in front of their home crowd to beat an underperforming Bulls. Adelaide will just be themselves but wouldn't bet against them being top three. Delightfully, Tarneit Unsupported and their lovable manager look about the worst of the bunch. But the net effect of widespread inconsistency means that we are well clear already on points and goal difference, without ever having really hit our straps for the whole of a game. If ever we do, we'll take someone for six or seven.

I feel if we are to be premiers again this season, we're going to win it a lot more comfortably then last season. Thinking 10+ point winners if we are to be top...

It is kind of difficult to work out which way the league is heading as results have been inconsistent with City being the exception and I thought that they should have won the game against WP.

Nope not possible.

Even if we are clearly the best team, say 10+plus we will always find a way to make things difficult.

After 5 rounds and looking at the top 5 teams we are clearly the best team but being City we can't do things easy.

I think if it is going to be a close season it will be for the reasons you have mentioned.

The table after Round 5.

CCM have a chance to sneak up when they play Macarthur, and to get even more points when they play their postponed game against Newcastle.

Next round, I'd like to think we can knock-off Newcastle quite easily, while Adelaide vs Victory and Sydney vs WSW means we'll see some movement towards the top.

Would be fantastic to go into the break unbeaten!

Pretty spot on, The Bulls have the most technical team but aren't creating much with it, they should be doing a lot better.

Newcastle are being funded by every other club atm and are scraping the bottom of the barrel and their striker has a heavy first touch.

CCM were the pick of the bunch this week, their pressing was impressive and they created a lot of chances, let down by their finishing until the young subs came on, both very effective. Kuol going will be huge for them and probably a bit much but should be in the six, I hear it was for only 300K as well.

WSW do look to be in trouble, they shouldn't have been accepted before other bids, it was clear as day to everyone but the FFA.

I presume you mean Western United...

I think it's far too early to tell what might be the outcome of this season. We are top of the table after 5 matches, but IMO the match vs. Phoenix highlighted our frailties. IIRC one season - I can't remember which - Adelaide went from dead last at the half-way mark to the Premiership. Shortly we'll have a break in the season, and then a transfer window, so I think it's better to take it one match at a time until a clear pattern emerges.

WSW doesn't look very strong, despite some results. They got something early in the season, but they only scored 5 goals in 5 games, a very weak showing to be in the top. It's unlikely they'll make the top 6...

Hi all :)

WSW won't score many, but they'll be bloody hard to score against, and they'll battle hard. They are contenders this year. Safe to say that Adelaide are also in that category. Victory are mediocre and Sydney verging on poor.

I feel like they won't get too far with their inability to score. Surely they can't pull off a Western United type fluke season... Mariners a dark horse for me

Sydney derby got 34k. I hope our derby can get that one day

I hope not, that would mean its played at Marvel and watching soccer there is horrendous.

I'm hoping Christmas derby generates some interest. Its hard to know whats going to happen after world cup. Maybe people forget about the A League or maybe after the WC more interest is generated.

CCM's season is over when Kuol leaves in Jan. Alot of their results are directly due to him.

Great to see active getting back to where it once was.

On a different note, I dont want to be that guy, but shouldn't those thread be in the 'Australian football' section?

Well, it could be, but IMO it's a bit more topical than that.
