Socceroos coaching

My, Graeme Arnold is the dementor's kiss of coaching, he has sucked all the life out of the Socceroos.

vertical football

shapeless, no structure

endless backpasses and little effective possession

It makes painful viewing. Surely, we must replace him before the WC?

He hasn't got a lot to work with though, has he? The state of the A-League isn't helping him either.

I think the way he plays is very telling, as well as the players he leaves out - the Australian team isn't the best it's ever been, but there are plenty of more exciting players that could be chosen nearly across the park. The left side is better because Azizi bombs on at every occasion, given we play a double-ish pivot of Mooy and Irvine it seems wild to me that we don't try to do the same on the right with Atkinson.

Probably too late to change tack now? IMO after the WC Finals we need to press the reset button and change the mindset of what we're about with the national team. Need a lot more football too, both nationally and internationally.

Arnie specialises in "backs to the wall lads, we are the underdogs. dig deep". It was a successful mentality at CCM, ludicrous when he tried it at Sydney FC, but just not the right mentality for the Socceroos. Ange had a clearly articulated style that he tried to implement, Arnold's style of play...what?
