Tinto Park, Benburb F.C., Glasgow.

Eerie. Something of the feel of an ancient monument, or a memorial to a lost civilisation.

Built 1932, biggest crowd about 10,000.

Shortly to be vacated and developed as housing due to repeated attacks by vandals.

Just curious, what are some of the more unique and "romantic" smaller football stadiums/parks in Australia? As someone who has a pretty limited knowledge of semi-pro football in this country, I'm interested to see some of these stadiums especially if we might be playing away games at some of these places.

Anyone know the story of this small club/ground near Bentleigh Greens? Looks abandoned and very haunting when you look at it and a rainy evening when you drive past it

https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.970624,145.105314,3a,75y,67.8h,84.45t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sOvWbwPMFV6MoJoV7frtrmw!2e0

Link doesn't work. Where are you actually referring to? Is it the small ground between the Capital Golf Course/Driving Range and the market garden on the northern side of Centre Dandenong Road, corner of Ross Street?

Right. That is the property of the Benevolent Association of Nafpaktians, which is a Greek association, I think social/cultural rather than religious, and caters for people with an association with the area around the town of Nafpaktos in Greece. I don't know anything further (I have no Greek connections).

I've never seen anyone using the football pitch.

I used to drive past the place fairly regularly when Moorabbin Golf Course (adjoining the airfield) was still in operation.

I can't help but think that we go right over the top in both design and cost in Australia with our A-League stadiums. The Koppervallen is owned by the local municipal council and has a capacity of 8,000. And I'll bet that Åtvidabergs FF doesn't have to go broke leasing it for their home matches.

I think we've got to look at simpler and cheaper solutions to the stadium issue in Australia.

Although I totally agree with you suggestion, problem with that is level of utilisation. If you invest in a boutique ground designed purely for soccer you would never get a sufficient return on your investment in this country.

Other codes (still) bring more crowds therefore compromises have to be made

I would love a cosy ground which gets filled by 8 to 10k but you could never host a blockbuster games there.

I think AAMI ground is a superb example of a design that is just about perfect for what we need going forward

Maybe you're right, but coming from a U.K. non-league background I can't help but have an affection for these little "fields of dreams."

Here's another one. Stade Jos Becker, home of Luxembourg club US Hostert.

It's all getting too heavy on these forums - too much angst over colours and all that sort of thing. Time to get back to the real world and "Football in Faraway Places."

"Causeway Lane", home of Matlock Town, Northern Premier League, Premier Division.

And then there's just a random castle on a hill in the background, swooooooooning.

The Sydney Cricket & Sports Ground Trust has released a $250 million master plan to transform the out-of-date Allianz Stadium. Features include a see-through roof, upgraded seating, quality food outlets, super-fast wi-fi, expanded entry gates and digital video signage.

Cool. SFS does need a facelift/upgrade. Wonder where Sydney FC would play their games during the redevelopment (if they dont do it in stages that is). Not to mention where Wests, the Roosters and Tahs would play as well.

At the greyhound track around the corner perhaps.
