That's what it said.

I would interpret "ample general public tickets remain" as meaning that there are still plenty of seats available for anyone who wants to buy them via Ticketek. They will be in areas of the stadium not specifically allocated to MV or MC fans/members A,B,C, and GA.

To use a boxing analogy, for this game I see us as a bit like George Foreman in his comeback era against a fringe contender.

Ok we have some flaws but we pack one hell of a knock punch (Messrs Fornaroli & Novillo).  All we have to is land a couple and the tards will go down for the count.

If that doesn't work we might have to look at making some health grills.

Only twice has the team who scored first lost the game (that doesnt include the 2-2 draw where visitors scored first and it also doesnt include the 3 0-0 draws.

I reckon this is all going to go down to if Wilko makes an immediate impact to our defence or not

True. Wilkinson basically will decide what happens tonight.

No pressure pal have a good game.

I think we've got it over them in the middle and both forward lines are comparable maybe us on form but defensively they are superior.

Just hope Wilkinson can make a season changing inpact.

Pretty annoying hoping 1 player can change things.

Like any game we play the result is impossible to pick. Its equally likely that we'll smash them as it is that we'll lose 0-5 depending on which City turns up. There is only one certainty though and that is that we won't keep a clean sheet.

Id be surprised if we didnt turn up given that we didnt turn up last week. I would be more worried about not turning up if we beat Newcastle last week.

There are plenty of derbies where we haven't turned up, although to be fair most of those have been at the Death Star and not AAMI Park.

Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip engages in spy games ahead of derby against Victory

February 12, 2016

MATT WINDLEY

SPY games have been in play ahead of Saturday night’s massive Melbourne derby at AAMI Park as tensions build towards of one of the most anticipated A-League showdowns of the season.

Wearing a hat and doing his best to remain unseen, Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip was an inconspicuous onlooker at Melbourne Victory training on Thursday as Kevin Muscat put his side through its paces.

The majority of Victory sessions — held in the open expanses of Gosch’s Paddock — are open to be watched by any member of the media or public, whereas most City sessions on its tarp-surrounded pitch at the club’s Bundoora headquarters are closed after 15 minutes.

It’s not the first time the two clubs have engaged in undercover scouting, as then Heart-coach John Aloisi once suspected Victory officials of spying on a closed AAMI Park training session from a corporate box.

Muscat isn’t one to hide formations or selections at training and happily declared Matthieu Delpierre (knee) and Gui Finkler (shoulder) fit to play on Saturday night after suffering injury scares last week.

Derbies of late have been dominated by the home team, with Victory winning five of the last six games at Etihad Stadium — drawing the other — and City winning the last three at AAMI Park.

But Muscat said there is no reason why his side can’t come up trumps at the home of its archrival in a game he admitted meant more to his team than most others.

Only goal difference separates City (3rd) and Victory (4th), but a win tonight is vital given Western Sydney and Brisbane were six points ahead at the start of the round.

New signing Alex Wilkinson set to be rushed into Melbourne City side for derby clash

February 13 2016

By David Davutovic

UNDERDONE Socceroos defender Alex Wilkinson looks set to be thrown into Melbourne City’s first XI for Saturday night’s high-stakes derby at AAMI Park.

Wilkinson has not played since Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ last home game of the Korean league season on November 29, but City’s defensive woes mean he is likely to be rushed in to try and stop Melbourne Victory’s Besart Berisha-led attack.

With defenders Aaron Hughes (calf) and Connor Chapman (knee) still at least a fortnight away and Osama Malik forced to push into a defensive midfield role with Jacob Melling suspended, City’s defensive options are wafer-thin.

Wilkinson, 31, has trained fully with City since last Sunday and coach John van’t Schip was coy when asked if he was ready to play 90 minutes after no football in 11 weeks.

“We’ll see. He made a good impression this week so he’ll be in the squad,’’ van’t Schip said.

“We’ll have to manage him and see what we’ll do, if we start him or bring him in. We’ll see how he pulls up (from Friday’s session) and make a decision.

“He’s shown a good physical appearance here, he’s kept training the break was also good for him because he was playing for a long time.

“There’s always going to be a risk, that’s why we had a good look at him, he’s trained on his own, and we will make a decision on his role.’’

Van’t Schip said Wilkinson’s arrival compliments City’s squad as opposed to forcing a reshuffle, with the Dutchman appearing keen to persist with the 3-5-2 formation which has given them a better balance.

Only Central Coast (42 goals) have conceded more than City’s 33 goals, while they haven’t kept a clean sheet in nine games amid constant chopping and changing.

“Bringing in Alex doesn’t really change that, it gives us another option to look at how we can reinforce and implement him into the line-up, so it’s a plus,’’ he said.

Van’t Schip cited “team spirit” as an issue in last week’s 2-1 loss to lowly Newcastle, but denied that a host of short-term deals may be contributing to this.

Wilkinson and fellow January arrivals Anthony Caceres, who returns from suspension, and Nick Fitzgerald have only signed until the end of the season.

“I was disappointed about the team spirit, without it it’s difficult,’’ van’t Schip said.

“We have the intention to keep them here longer but because of the circumstances it was a way of getting them done. They know we’re eager to keep them and they’re all happy being here.’’

Melbourne City midfielder Aaron Mooy says team confident ahead of derby clash with Melbourne Victory

February 12, 2016

By Matt Windley

MELBOURNE City star Aaron Mooy says it will take time for his new-look side to gel, but there is no reason why it won’t click against Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

City could start as many as three recent recruits as it seeks to win two derbies in a season for the first time.

Osama Malik has played just three times for City, Anthony Caceres — returning from suspension — twice, while Alex Wilkinson is in line to make his debut.

Fellow transfer window signing Nick Fitzgerald (two City games) may also appear.

It’s been an unmatched upheaval this season, but Mooy insists it won’t derail City’s title charge.

Not even temporarily.

“Sometimes it can click quickly, sometimes it can take longer,” Mooy said.

“But all of these players are good players and the squad is stronger for them being in it.

“They’re all nice guys, they’ve fitted in straight away, so everything is smooth.

“The more training sessions and games we have together, the better the combinations will be.

“It’s hard to expect it to click straight away, but everyone knows each other from other games in the A-League so it’s not that difficult. We’ll be fine (for the Victory game).

“It’s the biggest derby ever, maybe, and we’re confident.”

As long as the new recruits, Wilkinson, Caceres, Malik, show their quality, Melbourne City is well positioned for this match.

Keen to see how our midfield goes against victory's. They don't have much of a defensive presence in their midfield with broxham, bozanic and finkler. It's a prime chance for Mooy, Caceres and Malik to get on the ball and dominate proceedings--especially with Zullo and Franjic providing extra numbers and support in midfield.

Also just really looking forward to watching football at the best stadium in Melbourne (so so much better than Etihad), and Australia. Melbourne City is building a good record at AAMI, and if the individuals in the starting XI show their quality--and especially the back 3 (and especially Wilkinson)--it should be a good match.

they've released a couple premium a and b along the wing 1st level and a bit of premium c southern end

not surprising it's not selling out when the greedy cunts have high prices, $27.53 concession for prem c southern end + another $4.55 to have it sent to your phone or print at home :droy:

- can't even get 2 seats next to each other anywhere now

I don't think we've been pressing high or consistently over matches for a few weeks now. And when the team has pressed now and again they've been played through too easily, largely IMO because Mooy, Novillo and our new-look midfield haven't been pressing effectively and/or together. It could well be another issue that's a direct consequence of all the squad and matchday upheaval over the past few weeks.

It's interesting if you read Muscat's postgame comments from last week. He said victory dropped really deep for the whole of the 2nd half and it was entirely unplanned--the team pretty much just freaked out and kept dropping off and WSW dominated for the whole of the 2nd half.

I reckon if Melbourne City could start positive the same could happen again, and it could perhaps be like the last derby where the team established a strong lead in the first half that lead to a win. So I'd like to see the team play positively and press, but press effectively and press together. Also the team shouldn't press for the whole game--I don't think the team should ever do that--but Melbourne City should play positively for most of the match IMO. And when not pressing the team should be able to defend competently from the halfway line.

IMO the team just needs to get it's basic organisation and shape right, and take the  game to victory--which means not letting them take the game to us, especially by attacking us down our defensively suspect flanks. If the team does these basic things right, then Melbourne City should be a pretty good chance. And most of the new players--bar Wilkinson--have had long enough to settle in, so a much more competent team defensive performance should be on the cards tonight. New players can't be an excuse anymore. So it's time for JVS and the team to produce a good performance.

Any doubts over the formation or the starting XI? I think we are certain to play 3-5-3 with Wilkinson, Clisby and Caceres in:

-------------------Sorensen--------------------

--------Kisnorbo---Wilkinson---Clisby-------

-Franjic-----Malik------Caceres------Zullo--

---------------------Mooy------------------------

----------Fornaroli-------Novillo---------------

Extra man at the back, with the back 3. Wilkinson needs to show his class and make an immediate impact, and apparently he's been training fully and strongly since last Sunday.

This midfield is arguably our most balanced on paper. Keen to see how our midfielders go together.

All the ingredients are there, and now IMO it's just a matter of the players producing a good team performance (which of course they should have been training to do all week).

I back the quality players we have and expect them to fire tonight.

it's too fucking hot

?

It's 23 degrees at Olympic Park...

We must go back to the 4-3-3 but we won't and we will not get anything out of this game, and indeed this season. JVS has screwed the pooch with too many changes within the squad and the tactics.

No idea why we're sticking with 3-5-2 when we are continually being found out... it has worked at home against shit teams, and helped stem the tide against Sydney when we had half of our defense out. Prior to this, of course, we were putting teams to the sword home and away with our 4-3-3, including the last derby.

In summary: Fuck off JVS and fire up you fuckers!!!
