Who will stand out this season?

Following the trend in the EPL I'm going to say it won't be the forwards such as JMac but more the wingbacks and wingers.

Other things I would like to see include a real emphasis on using free-kicks in a more attacking way. It frustrates me to see us playing the ball backwards and sideways from our frees, rather than attacking the goal.

Overall though I think that we're going to see some dazzling play from our younger lads, especially if they come on as subs in the last 20 or so.

All signs are pointing to Metcalfe and Atkinson getting even better.

I think it's optimistic to expect Macca to score another 25 and if anything, I think I'd prefer others (Leckie, Nabbout, Pucciarelli) help pick up the slack as it'll make us an even better, less predictable team going forward.

Atkinson and Galloway look like they could be a potent combination, and IMO it's Nabbout who needs to have a better end-product than he showed last season.

By and large Atkinson and Galloway play at the back and their forward forays are always great. If they played up front, I wonder whether they would have the same end-product as Nabbout.

Atkinson can definitely play right wing effectively. He's done so through the finals series with Galloway overlapping at right back. It's not impossible to imagine that if Nabbout was injured or out of form, this could work very well. Moreover, they have a good understanding together.

Also important to recognise that we've probably got Atkinson for a year more max, and Galloway is our long term first pick right back once he moves to bigger things.

My only concern for Atkinson is that he’s going to be behind Leckie or Nabbout and maybe even Tilio for a forward spot and Galloway at RB. I think Galloway has earnt that spot for the time being.

Of course, injuries, suspensions and form drops will give him minutes but he’s too good to be sitting on the bench and I hope he doesn’t spend too much time there. Metcalfe is a lock though.

IMO this comes back to more of less the same issue as bedevils the national team. Do you play people on the basis of name, reputation, status etc. or do you play them on current form and effectiveness? For me Atkinson pushes Nabbout very hard for the place in the starting line-up.

What do people think about Florin? To date he hasn't been effective as a goal-scorer, and for me he's the sort of player who ought to be training and working hard to become an attacking free-kick specialist.

I have very little confidence in him, but I hope he proves me wrong. He always seems to just to be in cruise control for most of the season but will then pop up with a blinder just when it looks like he's going to be out of the team

I actually don't think he will play much at RB at all. Galloway does very thing you need from an A-League RB and I reckon he will get even better this year. I reckon Nate beats out Nabbout to start at RW and might even do some time as a #8 like he did at the back end of the South game. We are going to be very strong this season.

nabbout needs to win his place back. Atkinson is our best player alongside Metcalfe and Maclaren.  I can see Metcalfe having a breakout season though, he seems to be improving, especially in front of goal.  Rare to Have such a complete player in the A league so young.  Took the utter piss vs south

Very relevant posts IMO. All our so-called big-name players need to fight for their places, just like the younger lads do. I hope PK will select players based on their skills and performance and not just because they are the big four in salary terms.

for me Atkinson does not have the first touch to be able to play in a midfield role. He cant receive with his back to goal turn and release well. Atkinson looks best attacking from a wide position. I think he might push Nabbout out of his RW position but my prediction is Nabbout will get an injury before the competition between the pair has to be judged on this seasons form. Galloway offers more at the RB position for mine.
