bellydrum
W-League sign Jennifer Beattie on loan from sister club Manchester City Women Melbourne City FC is pleased to announce Manchester City Women’s defender Jennifer Beattie will join the Club’s Westfield W-League squad on loan for the 2015/16 season. The 24-year-old defender will make history as the first female player to represent both women’s clubs in the City Football family when she joins up with Head Coach Joe Montemurro’s squad this week ahead of City’s round three W-League clash against Perth Glory in Western Australia, on Saturday.Capped 89 times for Scotland, Beattie made her debut as a 15-year-old with Scottish Women’s Premier League side Queens Park, before switching to Celtic FC Women’s the following season. The versatile defender later joined Arsenal Ladies in 2009 during a successful four-year period, securing a number of honours with the London club. She then departed for French side Montpellier HSC in 2013, before returning to England with Manchester City Women’s FC late in 2014.Typically deployed as a defender, Beattie has also been utilised as a midfielder and as a forward. In a move which mirrors that of Manchester City youngsters Shay Facey and Angelino who have both had successful spells with MLS outfit New York City FC, Beattie said: "I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play for Melbourne City and compete in the W-League; this is a new challenge for me and one I’m really looking forward to. The similarities between the clubs will definitely help me to settle quickly, the philosophy we both have, and of course the facilities. I have no doubt CFA Melbourne will be a home away from home too; I just can’t wait to get started.' Head Coach Joe Montemurro welcomed Beattie’s inclusion by adding; “Jen has proven herself to be an accomplished player across a number of leagues in Europe and we’re expecting her to be a great addition to the squad,” Edited October 29, 2015 by bellydrum

jw1739
Interesting, isn't it, that one club has enough financial backing to swallow up FFA altogether...probably without leaving even a blip on CFG's balance sheet.
Kinnibari
Wow, we just got even more formidable. A sister club loan makes sense but we didn't seem to be getting any more players and the season has started so I stopped waiting for news in that front. Murfy1
W-League: Melbourne City defender Jennifer Beattie paves the way from Manchester City November 21, 2015 Daniel Cherny Jennifer Beattie had heard about Manchester City's links to Melbourne even before she joined the Citizens from Montpellier in January, and believes the English club's Australian connection is attractive to prospective players. The Scottish international made history last month when she joined Melbourne City on loan from Manchester City: the first player – male or female – to move between the two clubs that are both operated by the parent City Football Group, which purchased the former Melbourne Heart early last year. Beattie, 24, feels there could be scope for one of Manchester City's male stars to follow her lead. "I definitely think it's a unique thing to have on the world stage right now, for three clubs as big as Melbourne, Manchester and New York to all come together and have these opportunities for male and female players. "It's definitely a cool thing to have. When the season's are so short – especially – for girls to have another opportunity." The defender said she was enjoying her time in Australia. "It's been great, it's been good getting to know the girls and all the staff," Beattie said. "We're just getting used to all the weather. It's obviously completely different to back home. So far so good." Manchester City women finished second behind Chelsea in this year's English Women's Super League, but the Melbourne club is tipped to go one better, having started its maiden W-League campaign with five wins. It means City have 15 points, more than double the tally of their closest rival Adelaide United. They will look to make it six in a row when they take on fifth-placed Brisbane Roar on Sunday in Fawkner. Beattie said she was impressed with Australia's league. "With the movement that the Matildas make as well over the past few months, it's definitely going in the right direction. It might not be recognised on the world stage just yet, in terms of the German league, and the American and English and stuff like that, but I think in a few years it'll definitely be one of the biggest leagues." The Scot had been to Australia once before, to visit her friend and former Perth Glory goalkeeper Carly Telford. There's a further connection too – Jennifer's father John – a former Scotland and British Lions rugby international, ventured Down Under as part of the BBC's coverage of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. "He was so excited for me to come out because he knew how amazing it was."
