HEARTinator
Clisby strong debut performance. Actually looks and plays like a defender but can move up the pitch when required. We have found our left back. Melling is our Luongo. What a player, strong like an ox and recovers well. Was everywhere tonight and his goal just encpsulates what the kid is about. Big future and my MOTM today. Mooy close second. Good game but clearly being held back by a few incompetent individuals.
bt50
Thought garrucio was decent early, be happy to give him a go a left wing in place of Ramsay next week if he pulls up. belaguttman
Amazing to win a game against WSW at last. I have a feeling that this WSW side shows us Popovic's coaching level without Milicic as his 'assistant'. Â Positives: Clisby - composed and calm on the ball, good passing range and accuracy. Good signing from tonight's display. Chapman - as above Mooy - even more determined against WSW, I notice that he celebrated the goal, shame it wasn't in front of the away fans. Koren - great touch and positioning. Great game Most importantly we went down early to an early goal but didn't drop our heads or drop intensity. Dominated possession although much of it was sterile possession. Â Negatives: Redmayne - what can I say, a blind armless dwarf in goal would give me more confidence Ramsay - please let this be the last time we see him, his defensive work is poor, unfortunately his positioning is good going forward because nearly every attacking decision with the ball is poor. Kisnorbo's ball distribution was poor Why did we start Ramsay at all when we could have played Garrucio there and Clisby at LB? Small crowd, I really think that City have lost the opportunity to keep the 16,000 that attended the first game yet along build on it this season. 7,500 spectators is very disappointing given the Asian Cup attendances and influence, although if you counted the Police attendance in the attendance figures the figure would be around 15.000 Edited February 1, 2015 by belaguttman
Shahanga
Well deserved win. Â Great to finally beat the bogans, but really we were all over them. Â Only Covic (& Redmayne's blunder) kept them in the game. Â Wonder why we didn't play SHT at full time? Â Have we stopped celebrating wins? neio
Really happy with how we played, a couple extra goals would been nice but covic is quality keeper and they did clear one off the line which 90% of time he isn't there. Impressed with Clisby massively, but the test will come next week against Barbarouses and Khalfallah Midfield trio looks really settled now and are working together

NewConvert
I felt that City started slowly and WSW controlled the first 10 minutes in which they managed to score in front of me. Redmayne was Redmayne not in the right position he needed to be about a foot closer to the far post and be ready to leap. Ditto the second half except that they didn't score. Ramsay should have scored three goals but really not good enough. He will continue to get game time for the remainder of the season but I think that today would have been the final nail in the coffin. Koren played well but he also missed a sitter. The annoying thing is that even though City were in front and controlling the game, I never feel confident enough that they will actually win. Finally City are 3 points behind Sydney FC with a game in hand (just checked the A-League website) so the team is a chance for 5th spot. xXJawsaXx
Even when we were down we really didn't look like losing, we controlled most of the game save for little patches. It easily could've been 3 or 4-1. The less said about Ramsay the better. Mooy was unbelievable again, Melling is such a beast, he works so hard and is not afraid to throw his weight around. Chapman was our best defender today in my opinion, he is so calm and collected on the ball, if he continues to give these kinds of performances good overseas opportunities will beckon. Garrucio was pretty good whilst he was on, always worked hard to get the ball back. I also thought that Clisby slotted in really well at left back, should start next week in my opinion. Koren was pretty good, the way he linked up with Mooy was great to watch. All in all, good game/10.

We're a long way off being were we want to be. What I expect is that we are last choice for something to spend sporting dollars on, hence people stay home if the weather is bad or if there's even something as boring as cricket or golf they'll go to that. What I would like to see is us playing in a way that attending a game is compelling even if there's the second coming occurring at the time. Defibrillator
For all of the time we wished Ticker was playing at LB given our options there, we finally got our wish!!!! And wasn't his debut great. I don't think he's the quickest player, but his positioning was great and his passing generally solid. His place to lose. Just frustrated that he didn't start. Everything is easy in hindsight, but a 22 yo nominated LB may not have picked up the Garuccio injury given his defensive skills, and how the hell Garuccio didn't start LW for Ramsay defies belief. JVS's squad had me perplexed. He basically had a bench with two defenders and limited forward options meaning one of Koren or Duff was guaranteed a full game despite recent injury worries. Two specialist defenders on a bench is pretty odd for most squads.Overall a game of domination when you look at the stats - 22 shots on goal to 3. For a team that really had to try and salvage a season, WSW were amazingly poor, listless, and bland. Something's seriously wrong culturally there at the moment. Glad Kalmar was clapped off - in some ways an acknowledgement of his service to us.Liked our midfield and Melling is such a beast. The way he throws himself in you can see lifts the whole team and Mooy is happily following suit. His goal was great, but his effort to recover a lost ball that created the goal was simply outstanding with guts and determination. It's the type of desperation in the midfield I don't think we've ever had.Unfortunately today is probably the death knell for Redmayne (poor to let the goal in, but he was really shaky afterwards, and his distribution was appalling), as well as Ramsay. There's the obvious miss at which you could only laugh, but the other moment of his which really pissed me off was (second half) a sublime Koren flick to Duff on the wing, Duff threading a brilliant low cross to Ramsay in the box through three defenders, only for Ramsay to totally butcher the shot with his right foot (and the look between Koren and Duff was priceless). This guy is so one sided for a footballer it's embarrassing. Not sure of what's going on with Marino or any youth players, but we can't carry Ramsay for much longer. The expression "coach killer" was spat out by several in our area as we laughed at his efforts. Harsh I know.Overall it's coming together. Koren is still not fully fit but still has that touch of class that is so obvious to see. With a decent finisher it should have been 4 or 5 to us given the number of opportunities we created. I foresee there will be days when this happens more often.Final note, has JVS changed the formation once this year? You could argue he did with Murdocca coming on for what looked like a 4-4-2 briefly until Mooy pushed up, but his sense of adventure and adaption to the opposition is in sharp decline. Has he decided we don't have a squad that can adapt to change? Is he being overly conservative? Where do we play Koren when Kennedy starts up front? (You couldn't drop Melling on today's performance). Just throwing an observation out there.

RedAndWhitePride
Felt it was one of our better performances at home in a while (which actually doesn't say much) despite the early conceded goal and Ramsay doing his best to fuck it all up. Why JVS kept him on for so long, fuck only knows. Â Mooy and Melling are just so good. So, so good. Their will and determination have been exactly what we've lacked previously. Clisby looks the goods too. Â 7.5k was a very disappointing crowd. Don't care that the tennis was on across the road as it didn't start until thirty minutes after FT. Australia just won the Asian Cup, and that's all we could muster up ffs. Oh well, hopefully as long as the team keeps improving with the addition of Kennedy we'll see the numbers increase somewhat. Murfy1
A pretty perfect dominant performance. The stats tell a pretty clear story: 22 shots to 3 478 passes (77% accuracy) to 300 (66% accuracy) 43 passes into the box to 17 15 corners to 3 62% to 38% 28 tackles to 12  The shooting maps also clearly show City’s dominance:    My thoughts on the disappointed conceded goal and Redmayne are in Redmayne’s thread.  Both the goals emphasised just how good City’s five star midfield is. On the first, Melling won the ball back, before excellent interplay between Melling, Koren and Mooy before Melling put it away. Then on the second goal it’s also initially started by Mooy winning the ball, and then also finishing the play with an awesome strike. We have midfielders that can do it all: defend, pass and finish. And do so at good intensity for most of a match. That’s why Kalmar is now on the other team, because he is not so all rounded (in particular, his defending and intensity/pace was never great).  Chapman deserves good praise for his solid return. It’s remarkable how young Chapman and Melling are consistently giving big performances to their new team, and it’s clear they were sorely missed in the Central Coast game before the break.  I thought Koren did well as a midfielder in the striker position. He does a good job getting in front of his defender, and can generally hold his own physically and lead the line. Also, like with Engelaar last season, Koren’s class just seems to really reassure the team, so him now playing 90 minutes is a big positive.  Clisby lived up to my hopes. I thought Garuccio was pretty good before he was injured, but as he showed with his attacking run into the box before his injury I believe Garuccio’s skills would be better use upfield at LW. And if Clisby can replicate his defensively solid debut, then there will be no further need to play Garuccio at LB.   So overall a very strong performance, and a good sign for the second half of the season. With Kennedy to come back as well, the signs look good. I guess we don’t see much tactical flexibility now from JVS because the approach is working, and it might well be getting better with time (like how Adelaide’s approach has continued to pay more dividends the more it is used). Why fix what’s not broken. The team is consistently playing well, and every player now both knows and can perform their roles. And the icing on the cake is that the team is showing a lot of hunger, and the players are performing their roles with gusto, which is probably made easier by the team sticking with the same approach.   P.S. Thank bloody goodness we finally notched a win over Western Sydney and made sure they are nailed down to the bottom of the ladder. Neither does winning a penalty and neither does passing to Villa?  probly not best to ask an arsenal fan about assists when they defend ozil's record with his mediocre assists nothing wrong with his villa assist or pen, with corners there's only so much you can do, it's mainly down to the players attacking it value for money, on the field he's been far from it   Yeah, I forgot, Ozil's assists apparently don't count either because they're all 'short passes'  And oh, of course, good delivery has nothing to do with scoring from set pieces.  Keep up the posts mate, quality laughs to be had by all  lol wouldn't expect much more from a gooner would be claiming this to be an amazing assist  I'd say this assist was better to be fair and again you get nowhere  A pretty perfect dominant performance. Also, like with Engelaar last season, Koren’s class just seems to really reassure the team, so him not playing 90 minutes is a big positive. The team is consistently playing well, like every player now both knows and can perform their roles. And the icing on the cake is that the team are showing a lot of hunger, and are performing their jobs with gusto, which is probably made easier by the team sticking with the same approach.   P.S. Thank bloody goodness we finally notched a win over Western Sydney and made sure they are nailed down to the bottom of the ladder. great to have so many corners but we looked very vulnerable when it spilled out a couple of times
