Transfer Talk, Rumours and Speculation

Well that scotches the possibility of Brattan playng for us for the rest of this season. I wasn't aware of the FIFA regulation that prevents a player being registered for more than three clubs between 1st July of one yer and 30th June of the next, and from playing an "official match" for more than two of those clubs during the same period.

saying this might send the forum into meltdown.. But at the derby on sat night in the chairmans function I did hear a whisper that there's a chance Mooy may be gone in a couple of weeks..

I hope to god it's not true, and to be honest it would be a kick in the stomach to the supporters since JVS has come out and said we are not selling him this season.

Although it could explain the Troisi rumour. Unless he qualifies as a guest of course, im not sure how else Sydney or MV would fit him under the cap

I can't see how we can get either of Troisi or Wilkinson (at least in Jan), let alone both.

Troisi could surely get a big $ deal in Asia if he wanted. Wilko as a less glamorous defender wouldn't command anywhere near as much dosh but surely would still be out of our injury replacement budget?

Needless to say though I would love to have either of these guys at our club.

Oh in regards to Brattan I understand nothing of the whole deal and never have understood. I'm just adding it to the fairly long list of "shit I haven't figured out (yet)"

In regards to Samaras perhaps it is time to confess I had to google his name after I saw it on this forum.

You would never rule out anything happening in this type of business you only have to look as far as the whole saga that eventuated with Fabian Delphi.

However I believe selling mooy mid way through a season is basically throwing in the white towel on the season. There is no player their that was listed that could fulfill the form and value he brings to our squad.

If Mooy is sold it is more than a kick in the guts it's basically telling supporters who gives a fuck about this season.

remember that they both have champions league from next march on, so with Troisi being an Aussie and all they can easily "sign" him as a 14 game guest here and pay him the rest as a guest for the champions league.  IIRC, past performances by Aussie teams in Asia have seen their lists swell to 25 players for that comp given the AFC allow squad sizes of 25 - thereby they dont get penalised for adding those extra two players into their squad for a foreign comp.  hence part of the lure for WSW last season in getting Nick Kalmar - made him available to ease squad depth issues with all the travel in the champions league when the Wanderers were playing group stage games earlier this year / second half of last season

Brian Marwood effectively said on Monday this week that the club won't let Mooy go mid-season:

Quote

City insists that he is not for sale - yet. The club knocked back a $2 million offer from Saudi Arabia and are intent on retaining his services to try to help them win a first title.

"If we are serious about wanting to compete you can't just let your best players go. He is right up there, not just our best player but arguably the best in the A-League," says the Manchester based City Football Group's Football Administration Officer Brian Marwood.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/soccer-race-for-golden-boot-heats-up-with-city-victory-stars-leading-the-way-20151221-glsf6h.html

This is inline with what David Davutovic reported Aaron Mooy's agent saying last week, that the club won't let Mooy go in January:

Quote

MELBOURNE City will refuse to sell superstar midfielder Aaron Mooy in January — at any price.

At least two more lucrative offers for Mooy are imminent from China and Europe, just a week after City rejected a record-breaking $2m deal from Saudi Arabians Al-Nassr.

The City Football Group wants to make a statement by refusing to sell and giving Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip every chance at success.

It’s understood that CFG heavyweights, headed by football chief Brain Marwood, will then sit down with Mooy at the end of the season and offer an overseas pathway through their expanding network.

While a move to Manchester City is unlikely, pre-season training is a possibility, while a move to New York City could also be tabled.

The transfer window opens in a fortnight but Mooy’s agent Paddy Dominguez revealed that ambitious City was set to remain defiant.

It’s very clear that Melbourne City and CFG have no intention of selling Aaron to any club in the January transfer window,’’ Dominguez said.

“I say that because a $2m offer was rejected by a club and that’s record breaking for a domestic player.

“It’s not impossible, but if $2m isn’t enough, you can only guess what figure would be required for them to consider selling.

“The good thing from Aaron’s point of view is that they appreciate his efforts and value him so highly.’’

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/melbourne-city-will-refuse-to-sell-aaron-mooy-in-january-regardless-of-the-price/news-story/e2c96a92eb0406694452ee00d30e4115

And Mooy has good incentive to stick around until the end of the season. Then he won't have cashed-up non-European club's targeting him, as by the summer transfer window clauses come into effect (seemingly with a ~$1 million trigger) that will allow European clubs to negotiate a transfer for Mooy for a price that's more than agreeable for them:

Quote

City have scored 27 goals this season, nine more than the second most attacking sides but  Mooy  is responsible for 13 of those via either assists or scoring. He's too good to play in the A-League next season and the January transfer window presents the club's last chance to cash in on him before clauses come into effect at the end of the season making him available for less than half the value of current offers. For the City group, how much really is a million or two? Certainly a lot less than the price of a trophy.

 http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/melbourne-city-wont-win-the-aleague-without-aaron-mooy-20151214-glmsp2.html

So it's pretty much perfect for Mooy (for family and football reasons), Melbourne City and Mooy's future European club if Mooy plays on for the rest of the season and helps Melbourne City be successful as possible, and then joins a European club at the end of this season. I can't picture anything else happening but Mooy playing out the season then going to Europe.

Socceroo James Troisi being chased by Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC ahead of transfer window

ASIAN Cup hero James Troisi looks set to return to the A-League in the upcoming transfer window, with a tug of war looming between three title-chasing clubs.

Sydney FC, Melbourne City and Troisi’s former club Melbourne Victory are vying for his signature with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad prepared to release the attacker from his lucrative deal.

It’s understood that a change of ownership has played a part in the status of the Socceroo, who scored the extra-time winner against South Korea last January.

The same three A-League clubs were interested in pre-season before Troisi, who has been an unused substitute in recent weeks, accepted the massive Arab deal.

Former Manchester City and Celtic striker Georgios Samaras is being made available to A-League clubs and though he won’t come cheap, his Australian passport makes him attractive.

Socceroos defender Alex Wilkinson and Olyroos midfielder Steven Ugarkovic are free agents and ready-made additions to any squad.

Wilkinson, who’s been a regular under Ange Postecoglou, is exploring Asian options but would consider signing a longer-term A-League deal after a stellar stint in Asia.

Ugarkovic, who was yesterday selected in Aurelio Vidmar’s Olyroos squad for the upcoming Rio 2016 qualifiers, quit Croatian club Osijek over unpaid wages.

“He’s got a good engine, a good passer, gives everything he can. He’s a smart footballer and technically very good,’’ Vidmar said.

Fulham striker Adam Taggart, who was also picked by the Olyroos, Germany-based Kwame Yeboah and Dutch-based Adam Sarota are also seeking regular game-time and would be open to an A-League return of nothing eventuates in Europe.

Former Melbourne City and Western Sydney midfielder Nick Kalmar remains on the market after a lucrative Asian deal recently fell through, while former Newcastle Jets striker Joel Griffiths is nearing a return and has a point to prove.

Another knee victim Nick Carle is still on the mend, while the likes of Massimo Murdocca, Troy Hearfield and Jonatan Germano, who’s stayed in Melbourne, are working hard and waiting patiently.

Former Brisbane Roar midfielder Luke Brattan is ineligible to play for an A-League club this season as he’s already been contracted to three clubs, hence he can only utilise an emergency loan to a fellow English club.

Brattan, who signed a four-year deal with Manchester City, is now training at Rotherham after finishing his loan with fellow Championship club Bolton.

Aside from fitting a new signing inside the salary cap, A-League clubs can sign players on a: Loan deal; guest stint or injury-replacement contract.

Club is trying to offload kuzi and James brown in Jan. No surprises really and the kuzi thing is well known

If that is really the case then they must be trying to move them overseas somewhere. The transfer window does not apply to transfers within a national association - the player and current club simply agree on a mutual termination and then the player signs for the club wanting him.

Is your source reliable? Many people just do not seem to understand the rules of the "transfer window."

JB isn't going anywhere till he's fit. When he is, I assume he's Gosford bound.

Kuzi? I imagine clubs are lining up for a kid who can't pass, cross or shoot but thinks he's a super star. Hopefully Aloisi will sign him.

Send him to Mr Arnold he'll fix him.

Just for reference JB is contracted until end of season whilst Kuzi is contracted until end of next season. Given that JB has no fitness in him it is, like Shahanga says, unlikely that he will move anywhere else and in any case the club will only have to carry him till season's end effectively six months. Kuzi OTOH is a bigger problem because he has a full 18 months to go and is wasting a spot. If the club is trying to offload him that means that the coaches have given up on him and is probably considered bad for the team. Perhaps this is the time to ask him to train by himself to force a mutual termination decision. It could also be the kick up the arse that he needs to get real about his talents.

It's a shame really, because IMO both of these players have got talent. I can't see City forcing Kuzi to train by himself - IMO that would not fit with the values of the club. His best shot after perhaps trying to go back to WSW would be to play NPL for a season and try and get some help for whatever his problems are. Hanging around at City just because he's got a contract isn't going to do him any good in the end.

Michael Essien on radar of Sydney FC ahead of transfer window, George Samaras attracts Mariners

A-LEAGUE clubs are keeping their powder dry ahead of the transfer window opening next Tuesday, despite being offered the chance to pursue talks with a number of high-profile players as potential guest signings.

It’s understood that Sydney FC have signalled that they are not interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on a guest stint, while no clubs so far have made a play for former Croatia striker Ivica Olić, despite his management indicating his interest in coming to the A-League.

Former Greece striker George Samaras is believed to have interested the Mariners but dependent on third-party funding, and so far none has been secured, while the name of former Brazilian star Ronaldinho continues to be circulated.

But so far clubs have refused to bite, wary of disrupting dressing rooms mid-season despite the A-League’s desperate need for added starpower. In Essien’s case, he remains contracted to Greek club Panathinaikos and has just re-entered the first team after a lengthy period of injury.

But agents are believed to have been given a mandate to examine various options in Asia including Australia, in case Panathinaikos decide to release him in the January transfer window.

A major stumbling block would be his salary expectations for a move to Australia, with an annual figure of €3m net understood to have been quoted.

However Sydney, one of the clubs with the resources to fund a guest player — particularly on a short-term guest stint — are understood to be cool on the option, though a deal for next season could prove more attractive.

Samaras is unattached and carries an Australian passport, but last played in March, for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, and has been offered to A-League clubs before.

The Mariners discussed him as an option to bolster their freefalling gates, but he has sought $700,000 for a half-year deal — and the Mariners are almost certain to play no role in the finals.

Olic, a veteran of a century of caps for Croatia and an alumni of Bayern Munich and Diano Zagreb, was told days before Christmas by his Bundesliga club Hamburg that he is free to leave if he can find a new club.

His salary demands are thought to be far more realistic and his representatives say he is open to a longer-term stint than just a guest contract.

Meanwhile the Mariners are believed to be weighing up a slightly more prosaic signing, with former Melbourne Victory midfielder Francesco Stella understood to be on the club’s radar.

The 24-year-old, who spent a year with the youth team of Chievo Verona in Italy and a short stint at Rangers in Scotland before signing for Victory in the 2013-14 season, has been at Avondale FC in the Victorian Premier League since June.

Would take Olić at  RW. Has a cracking left foot, at 36 though I'm not sure about his injury history

How good is the headline "Michael Essien on radar of Sydney FC"..

Then two sentences down "It’s understood that Sydney FC have signalled that they are not interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on a guest stint"
