Seems to be different at Federal level, might just be because her workfriends arent lazy fuckers (or theyve all been made redundant) but they all work their asses off without getting paid overtime like we do in private. I spent about a 18 months on secondment to a Qld Govt organisation (as punishment for sins committed by me and previous generations, it would seem). This is what I learnt from that: Plenty of good people in the public sector Pay is actually pretty decent What is missing is a complete lack of direction, making it easy for careers to wallow and the bludgers to, well, bludge Because of all the rules about how you can treat people, management found the best way forward was to be a bunch of conniving backstabbing bastards My colleague assured me that I'd seen it at its worst (and I certainly hope so!) but honestly I wouldn't go back for double the pay, even though the hours are a bludge. The expectations of workers in the private sector are a hell of a lot higher but at least your work is considered important and seems to serve a meaningful purpose. In regards to the current situation, there is no doubt my & related professions are in a recession, so everything is tough. However, I find it ironic that our politicians are complaining about no one deserving to be treated the way those two guys are being treated, when we as a nation are systematically torturing innocent children in detention centres. I'm no bleeding heart leftie and am largely fine with our strict immigration laws but the treatment of children caught up in the red tape is just as much a national disgraceful as Indonesia's death penalty for convicted criminals.
