Melbourne's New Manager (Aloisi Confirmed Pg 30)

Unless there was any animosity, I don't think it would be that far fetched. Not usual I agree, but as far as I know (and I admit to not knowing a lot) he is highly regarded at the Heart with the key people.

He left us as a Youth assistant, to be a senior assistant. So we wouldn't begrudge him that. In the short time being at the Jet's he has helped develop them into a pretty good outfit.

As I said, not normal, but not far fetched.

I tend to agree with you mark, when someone doesn't want to be there in the future I would personally walk them to the door today.

Let Ante take them thru the next 6 weeks(finals will now be a miracle as our outs will still need a couple of games to be 100%) and then do whatever is needed to secure Ange Postecoglou for next season asap.

I would imagine we would have to pay out the rest of his contract. I hardly think that it is viable for a club of Heart's ilk to throw away money by releasing a manager. We are a few rounds from the end of the season and still in a finals place.

It is right now we need to be getting down to it and pushing hard to turn things around. Bar yesterday and phoenix we could have walked away with three points in most of the other games in our down turn of late. Releasing the manager now makes no sense when it is so important we make the finals.

Worry about the management the day we are knocked out of this years league.

There's no suggestion whatever of non-payment. You simply stand the guy aside. He has indicated that he does not want to be with us next season, not the other way around, so why not give AM a chance? To say the least there have been some very odd selection decisions these past couple of weeks. I just cannot see that AM can do any worse than JvS at this point. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/Heart-on-the-verge/45315

I read a lot of talk about Pappas but I'm not personally sure it would be the best way to go.

For mine he is probably just a tad young and inexperienced for a club in it's infancy and I would be looking for someone that's experienced dealing with the media, squad harmony and has been there and done/won that.

The present incumbent is/was not highly credentialled in any of those. I'd rather have a manager who has a good football brain and gets the best out of the players he's got rather than someone who's obsessed with squeezing his players into a system that does not produce results on the field. Dealing with the media is something anyone can learn - a 3-day course is all that's required. Done it myself when I had to front the media on a regular basis. Harmony? - the list of people sacrificed on the altar of obsession starts with Joe Mirabella and isn't finished yet.

Arthur Papas fits Melbourne Heart like a glove. It is inspirational to even just read about him: http://neoskosmos.com/news/en/Arthus-Pappas-the-coach-Oakleigh-Cannons-FC%20

IMO I reckon Papas sounds better than Milicic as well - in particular as he has success as a Game Day Manger at Oakleigh.

However I want the club to do a proper search, not one that consists of saying they had 4 million applicants from all over the world but the best candidate was basicly around the club all along.

A manager who desires Immediate success is also a bigger priority for me than a lot of other Heart supporters.

I think we need to understand that things are not going great financially – and that whether us diehards like it or not Australians are fickle Football Supporters compared to other sports and require to see some wins before committing to teams.

It sucks that its like that, but the reality is it is not like people’s Grandfather supported MH like they did Collingwood or Carlton.

There no point throwing out the “Prawn Sanga” barbs when the reality is that its these newly converted people to the game and in particular family’s that can secure our club as a long term entity not all of us week in/week out fans.

A lot of smart points here.

A proper search search for a new coach is the way to go. Ideally I'd like us to get another foreign coach, a cheaper JVS pretty much, which I think is a decent possibility given that we're not a completely new club like when we were first looking for a coach and signed JVS. Shouldn't need so much money to find a cheaper JVS.

If we can't afford a well priced quality foreign coach I think I'd be happy with Arthur Papas. Sure Papas is a youngin' but he is seemly really committed and smart, as evidenced by the education he's undertaken: AIS scholarship coach, Masters in Sports Coaching, AFC A license, Applied Science studies (specialising in Exercise Science) and he was the VPL's coach of the year last year.

Given that Aloisi is a work in progress and Milicic is also a work in progress (further along then Aloisi, though) I reckon we look for a cheaper JVS. If not that sign up Papas.

The European economic disaster makes it a good time for the club to go shopping in Europe for a coach. There are many unemployed coaches and players at the moment. Spain for instance has more Pro qualified coaches than anywhere else in Europe but limited opportunity at the moment. Failing that Ante Milicic would be a good local choice.

Arthur Papas looks better and better all the time. Part of the improvement at the Jets, has coached in his own right with senior players, knows our system but is coming from the outside looking in rather than having any ties to certain players. Also won;t cost the world and knows the VPL and Australian scene as well as anyone.

To me anyway he seems logical.

CRAP this has to be joke and a bad one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These comments are counter to what you are ranting on about elsewhere - that the A-League just keeps on recycling old faces. Be consistent.

Papas is at the very least a new face.

Pappas might turn out to be a great A League coach, but I don't think he'll get the job with us at this stage. It's a step up from coaching at VPL level to a professional club and it's a big risk for a club in our position. But it also creates a couple of issues with the coaching set-up.

1. Milicic and Aloisi are confirmed to be here next year in whatever capacity. But I reckon Milicic would want to find a senior position or an assistant position under an experienced coach elsewhere rather than be an assistant under Pappas. As an up and coming coach, the only thing he would have to gain from coaching under Pappas would be the potential to take over if he fails. I don't think it's a good fit for either of them.

2. Pappas should have an experienced assistant or some sort of mentor to help him through issues or problems that he hasn't dealt with yet as a coach. So if we give the job to Pappas, we'd have to employ another coach and restructure the coaching set-up.

Pappas + experienced coach as assistant + Aloisi could work.

But Milicic has the advantages of being part of a professional set-up for 2 seasons and is more of a known quantity. Whatever the personal attributes of either of them, Milicic is in the better position to take over and is probably a safer bet. Milicic with Pappas as his assistant would make more sense for mine. He's from Melbourne, so we might be able to get him back here to do the same job he's doing in Newcastle if the club rates him.

I think it's realistically going to end up being a choice between an experienced overseas coach or Milicic.

With Gold Coast going from bad to worse and standing down Miron Bleiberg, I reckon we could do a lot worse than get him as coach for next season. He comes across as a genuinely warm human being, is very good with the media plus he is tactically very astute and is prepared to promote youth.

JVS endorses Milicic. Time to step up.....http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/soccer/john-vant-schip-says-ante-covic-the-right-man-for-melbourne-heart/story-e6frfg8x-1226273211046

I support this move, so long as we sign a decent CB, DM and CF and potentially a highly experienced assistant manager. The valuable insight he has gained from a great tactician is highly valued.

What a sloppy story...Ante who?

Not sure I really care what JvS thinks on the matter of our new coach. He has made the decision not to continue with us. Let us decide on who follows him.

Ante Milicic is the easy, low-cost, minumum disruption, steady-as-she goes choice. But I don't think that's what we need. He has been an integral part of a coaching team that has made some very questionable decisions on players. The biggest risk with him is that Heart delivers the same sort of performance next season as it has during Seasons 1 and 2. That is, not winning enough games.

A good coach is one who gets the maximumum out of the cattle at his disposal, and that's what we need. Someone who will spark up an undoubtedly talented group of players and get them to over-perform as a team rather than under-perform as a group of individuals.

Not only that we need some sound, unbiased and performance-based decisions on the players coming out of contract. I'm not sure that Milicic can deliver those judgements at the required arms length. A number of players are at best 50:50, and IMO they should be released - we can do better with some new faces.

More of the same is not what we need. Otherwise we will be staring at bottom four next season.

Miron's OK and I actually think has done a pretty good job this year under very trying circumstances, but honestly I think we could do a lot better. There is just something about Miron that has me doubtful about him- certainly his lack of playing credentials doesn't help and there are always these whispers about his competency from insiders. His best move might be a career in the media.

He's in town with the Saudia team and likely to be unemployed soon

He's a ex-team-mate of JVS

He's had a bit of coaching experience and understands the Ajax system

he's priced out of our league but doesn't need the money....

I wonder if anyone in the club has spoken to Frank Rijkaard about the coaching position for next year? It doesn't hurt to ask...

Frank Rijkaard>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JVS.

Will NOT happen.

After all the success these import managers have brought to the A-league lets put the blinkers on and go down that route again.

This club need a 'star player' more than anything.

We don't need a star player, we need a star team! Look at CCM, not a real star in the team at all yet a star team.

MV have gone down the star player route and look where that's got them.
