kontra.11
Hearing that Westpac won't be renewing a new deal with us. Anybody else know anything about this?
Tommykins
Haven't heard a whisper of this, source? It all seemed to be going along very well the middle of last year when Peter Sidwell was discussing it.
belaguttman
Maybe they had a bizarre expectation that we'd be prioritising on-field success?
Melburnian
Have heard this whisper. Westpac don't see bang for buck. I mentioned on this forum at the mid point of this year that this was the case. Why would you invest in this club right now? What exactly are they getting out of it? Logic to me would suggest they would be questioning things. We had a target membership of 7,500 at year one and average attendance target of 10,000. Year 3 we are yet to even hit these goals. No successful organisation would want to be associated with this. Not at a major level. Westpac love the community aspect of things so they may want to downgrade to just look after that. If these whispers are true, frightening. The club has failed in every aspect, expect collatarel damage from that.
Heart of Melbourne
That's what happens when you run a budget team. Sack the board now.
Peter
I am not impressed with what has happened over the past two seasons with our club. We cannot change the past and it would appear that the club is aware of supporters feelings, and if what is being said about Westpac is true, then the feelings of our financial backers as well. I look forward to hearing the clubs plan to deal with these issues and watching them come to fruition.
Jimmy
If Westpac pull out we'll struggle to find a replacement.
jw1739
Provided we can obtain replacement sponsors it may in fact be beneficial for us. I was told before we first kicked a ball that the conditions applied to us in return for the money were pretty onerous, and that in fact we would see little benefit in the sponsorship. If no longer beholden to Westpac and the 'community festival' concept we may be able to focus more on on-field performance. It won't be the end of the world. Clubs change sponsors pretty regularly. What calibre of sponsor would be attracted to us right at this point of time? What would the finances be worth. There would be heavy conditions in every sponsorship arrangement the fact is we had a bonafide blue chip sponsor giving us a substancial amount of funds and we cocked it up. I can't see any blue chip sponsor coming on board. This is concerning if true.
belaguttman
Its a great chance to get a good sponsor if we can get a marquee and a decent team. If...if...if.....
jw1739
Pessimistic lot of buggers on this forum. One week into the off-season and doom and gloom everywhere. Maybe look on the positive side for once...
kontra.11
It was doing the rounds at a state league game today.. I think the last 5 weeks did a lot of damage to the club both on and off the pitch.. Lost all the games in the run to the finals, players not trying, equal last and then crowd trouble at WSW game following from the derby stuff.. Grimey
On the subject of sponsorship, are there any companies that you wouldn't want to sponsor us? I saw this as a question on the member survey. I put full approval for every type of sponsor. Tommy Waterhouse anyone?
Deluka
For a 'family' club, I can't see us being sponsored by any betting agency - I, however, wouldn't be against it. Edited April 27, 2013 by Deluka
theresonlyonebzamora
there was something at the fan forum about sponsorship from betting agencies IIRC. anyone elaborate better than my memory?
HeartMillsy29
Could we have foreseen this? Question in the questionnaire was related to sponsors. I liked us being associated with Westpac, being such a large national bank associated with us it was nice. Hopefully it's all a rumour and they can stay on board. Ja 27
As a westpac employee i'd be very surprised if the sponsorship was renewed. The first 2 seasons heart was promoted regually within the organisation with discounts being offered and general promotion of the clubs activities in the community but that has been almost non existant in season 3. I hope i'm wrong but dosent look promising. Edited April 27, 2013 by Ja
Popular Post Murfy1
This recent rumour, started by a new member on the 442 forums, who also didn't name their source, looks pretty baseless to me. People have to remember that sponsors mainly want to get their brand name out there. That is why Heart is one of the top 3 clubs in terms of raising revenue from sponsorship, as Heart have the lucrative Melbourne market. On the other hand the Central Coast Mariners, despite their consistent and remarkable on-field success, really struggle to attract sponsors because Gosford and surrounding areas where the Mariners are based are only populated by a few hundred thousand people. Also, the Heart's community really matters to sponsors like Westpac, who are the primary backer of the club's Heart2Heart community engagement programs. Heart has held football clinics that have included 60,000 young boys and girls, and sponsors like Westpac do appreciate being associated with such positive community initiatives. Lastly, starting next season the A-League will get a free to air television component (through Friday games being broadcast live on SBS). I'm certain that sponsoring an A-League club like Melbourne Heart is much cheaper than sponsoring an AFL or rugby. So if Westpac or another sponsor wants to be televised prominently nationwide, then Heart is very well placed to attract sponsorship. So as far as I can see, pessimism over the club's sponsorship deal with Westpac isn't well reasoned. If on-field success mattered, then sponsors would be lining up to sponsor the Mariners. And they are most certainly not.
HEARTinator
. So if Westpac or another sponsor wants to be televised prominently nationwide, then Heart is very well placed to attract sponsorship. Yeah, the HAL is generating a lot more media and interest from the general public. This awareness can translate to extra sponsorship $$$$ particularly with live FTA broadcasting from next season. All positive stuff.
moops
We should realy approach Honda and their HART devision, since they are a sister club to Honda there should be no conflict with FFA, what better sponsor for us than HART?

Melburnian
it really isnt... lol just owned by westpac. Owned by the Westpac Corporation. It's another branch of Westpac Corporation which also has Bank of SA, St George and Westpac so yes, really is Westpac. Just another branch to monopolise the market. You can get a transfer from Westpac to BOM as an employee so it is the same thing. You would think there would issues of going to BOM if Westpac pull out no? soxrow
SULO would be more appropriate to the Tards based on their away kit. If the club is keen on a financial sponsor, why not go with NAB? Should be easy to get, as they are already with FFA, but might be overcommitted.
