I find it interesting that the author says that because Gerhardt was moved into midfield the defence felt more comfortable passing the ball to midfield with the reason being that the defence was more trusting in PG. To me it is more a case of removing the person who refused to pass out of defence and replace them with some one who is willing to.

I agree. To me it was Archibald who made the difference.

The club are saying we are very close on signing an international striker!

"""""When pressed on the quality of the potential attacking signing, Munn said: "Very exciting ... very. Well known, depending on where you're from in the world.

"He's playing this weekend, representing his country and [will] hopefully put in a few goals."

Any guesses?

Head over to the marquee player thread, Mifsud and Marica are the two most touted possibilities at the moment!

PROLIFIC Maltese striker Michael Mifsud will be confirmed as Melbourne Hearts newest signing on Wednesday.

It’s believed Mifsud, who’s scored 37 goals in 99 games for Malta, will be unveiled at signing a one-year deal with the Heart.

The 32-year-old former Kaiserslautern, Coventry and Lillestrom goalscorer becomes Heart’s 23rd and final signing ahead of the 2013-14 A-League season.

But the diminutive striker would almost certainly miss the round 1 Melbourne derby with Malta hosting Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier on the same day.

Mifsud, who netted a brace for Coventry City against Manchester United in a 2007 League Cup third round game, spent the past two seasons with Maltese club Valletta, where he scored 28 goals in 47 games.

"We’ve invested a fair bit of time on it (Mifsud) so it either will or won’t happen in the next few days," Heart football operations manager John Didulica said on Saturday.

"We’re still in talks, they’ve advanced well and hopefully we can bring him here as soon as possible."

Heart has also lodged paperwork to sign Italian midfielder Andrea Migliorini as an injury replacement for Orlando Engelaar.

The 25-year-old, who trialled for Sydney FC on their Italian tour and was recommended by Vince Grella, and is expected to sign the short term after impressing in Saturday’s friendly away to Perth Glory.

Great news.

Id say the only down side that Mifsud is only around for 1 season. Hopefully that turns into another year if he goes well

With Mifsud now adding to Gol Gol, Ramsay, Dugandzic, Behich and Willo, surely we've got the quickest side in the competition!

Expecting lots of counter-attacking football this season.

It will be now up to JA to use them in a constructive way.

He has enough quality to finish in top 4

Nothing less should be tolerated!!!

As John Didulica tweeted "A-League, Clubs & players have a combined total of 1,4m followers on Twitter Or 1/10th of a OneDirection member &/or Kardashian".

At least the name Melbourne Heart has spread a little further. There's seemingly been thousands of tweets & retweets in numerous languages in the past hour mentioning Melbourne Heart and this guy.

But Heart haven't done anything except let him come and spend some time at training. The club doesn't seem to have exploited it for publicity at all. Which is smart. They don't need to exploit it because the thousands of young females who obsess over this band have already seen the pictures. And I think it's an important source of support. Girls follow and play the game in good numbers. And the more kids we get following the club, the more that support will spread through schools etc, and help establish the club for years to come. As a great philosopher once said, 'I believe the children are the future, teach them well, let them lead the way...'

Heart have no shame if they are using a boy band to target the most irrelevant age demographic in the world.
