According to The Beautiful Game's Facebook page, they are offering him 70K a week!!

its not to bad as it will only be a 6 month contract from what I hear, works out not too much than what they have paid Aloisi previously as they arent paying him during offseason.

70k a week would be about 3.6mil a year, but as they are only paying him for 6 months, only costs them around 1.8mil. Aloisi was getting 1.4mil a season when he was there apparently.

Oh dear... it looks like someone may have jumped the gun. Here's Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow's most recent press release on the situation between the Australian club and Del Piero:

Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow would like to clarify the status of Alessandro Del Piero, who today agreed to enter into final discussions with the Sky Blues.

“Alessandro Del Piero has not signed a contract with Sydney FC as yet. The two parties have agreed to have a meeting in Turin early next week to confirm the possibility of signing a contract,” Mr Barlow said.

might not get a chance to see whether he flops or not....

Great for the A-League, with any luck it might actually get the Sydneysiders off their arses and attending games. Fortunate for Sydney FC that David Traktovenko has very deep pockets and is willing to cover any losses if the fans continue to stay at home.

As a player he's never relied on any physical prowess as the strength of his game, the guy is a quality technician and is in very good physical shape, if they can put him behind a proven finisher then they'll be a serious contender this season.

It is really good for the league, could set sydney up, i dont know who there strikers are atm tbh but a fit Emerton and Del Piero will be too dangerous you would imagine.

Only issue now is that we need to step up, not just on the field but off it, if this does turn into a pivot moment for the league. Other clubs have the big money backers which we lack....its great being a "club" rather than owned but it may impede us competing for such big signings unless we can really boost our league presence and membership fast.

ABC News is carrying that he has NOT agreed to sign with Sydney. Rather he has agreed to a meeting next week to discuss the possibility of a contract. He's being chased by several clubs. Appears Sydney have offered 2$m a season for two years.

Has not signed a contract yet remember that. Owen is still a free agent imagine if we were able to get both these players in the league! WWS should try and sign Owen if the Del Piero deal goes through they need a big signing or they will lose some of the fans they could of had to Sydney fc..

FFS such fans are worth losing - They are hardly an asset to a club if they are that fickle...

or why don't we sign Michael Owen?! we certainly need a boost in members if the current membership figure is accurate.

Sydney FC have not yet confirmed the signing of Alessandro Del Piero, despite media reports that the deal was done and reported interest from EPL giants LIverpool.

Reports last suggested Italy great Del Piero has agreed to join the Sky Blues in a $2 million deal, but the club denied any deal has been signed.

Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata flew out to Italy at the end of last week to sealed the biggest signing in Australian football history.

Sydney FC have not yet made any official statement on the possible transfer, however a spokesman said the deal was not yet complete.

And this morning news emerged that Liverpool had made reported a last-ditch effort to sign for the former Juventus striker.

A switch to the Premier League at this stage in his career would obviously prove tempting, although Pignata believes the opportunity to create a legacy for in Australia will be too much to resist.

"I am optimistic. He still hasn't signed, but he wants to. Between tonight and tomorrow we will settle the final details, it is a work in progress," Pignata told Sky Sport Italia.

The transfer is confirmed on the A-League website. God knows how Sydney can afford it. I do sometimes look with a degree of envy at the signings made by some of the other clubs.

Yeah one day....maybe...... and he doenst play us at home until like feb or something, might need to go on a sneaky trip to sydney

This can't be great for WSW. I reckon all the fickle supporters who jumped over to the Wanderers will now be jumping straight back.

Also new fans who aren't sure which side to support are likely to go to the team with Emerton and Del Piero over the team of ex-Jets and other A-league rejects whose supporters are all ethnic gang members who pelt children with rocks.

True WSW is looking about as attractive as a hat full of arseholes at the moment
