Oh God, not Tasmania, Gold Coast and Geelong again? How many times do we have to go through this nonsense?

Geelong already has a team, which is what strider is referring to.

The Gold Coast is a graveyard for professional sporting teams.  Mark my words, the AFL will lose their shirt on that one, as the Suns will never be financially viable.

I agree with you on Tassie jw.

I certainly agree with regards to the AFL losing their shirt on the GCS and the GWS. Two years ago The Age claimed that they had spent $100M already on these two clubs, the budget for supporting Tassie AFL has dropped down to $3M this year and they are losing traction in Tasmania. Unless you are into surfing,  beach sports or golf the Gold Coast is a professional sporting graveyard.

The Nixs season has gone to hell in a hand basket after their licence application was rejected.

FFA either need to keep them in or kick them out. All they are doing now is creating a easy beat club.

They are certainly in a bad patch of form, and the lack of certainty over their license is probably taking its toll. Krishna being out doesn't help their cause either.

IMO a disgraceful act by FFA to do that to a club in mid-season. Obviously it was going to have a negative effect on everyone connected with the club.

Part of the story is that because of the licence issue they are CBF about bringing anyone in.

Last year their strike force included Burns, Brockie, Boyd & Krishna.very impressive.

The only one left is Krishna and he's injured.

As opposed to leaving them in the dark and in a state of uncertainty for the entire season?

The only real error here was playing it out in the media, although tbh, even f theyd tried to conceal it the journo's would get their hands on it at some point.

FWIW I sincerely hope the Nix stay around; a strong Nix is great for the comp. NZ Football need to get their shit together and start putting in as well however, they cant just expect a free ride from FFA for what is, and what will be their only realistic chance of professional football in NZ for the foreseeable future.

But that's exactly what FFA have done isn't it?

Yes, this appears to be confirmed today. 3-year contract.

Big loss for Victory.

Seems they aren't playing around. They want to keep the licence and are putting their money up. Or perhaps the owners always wanted to invest more but didn't have reason to with so much uncertainty. Either way it's good. I'd love for them to unearth some more OFC players as well though even if they're spending more on their team now.

Anyway, Barbarouses is a good start. I wonder what Bonevecia is on. Might be on a bit but they haven't made him marquee so they can meet the minimum salary since the rest of their squad seem like they're on not much. If they move him to marquee on a long term deal and then fill up the rest of the squad at least to the minimum salary, they'll be quite competitive.

Good on the Nix for being proactive, but Finkler isn't worth a pinch of shit as a marquee.

Set piece specialist, but rubbish in general play. I probably wouldn't even take him as a visa under the cap tbh.

A rather better signing than Aaron Hughes...

True, but Hughes isn't a marquee. Nor was he a 'proven quantity' at the level when we signed him.

Anyway, I'm pleased to see the Phoenix building a bit of a squad for next season. TBH I have a soft spot for them - can't be easy for them being so isolated, and FFA treated them poorly this season. I like their name and badge and hope they can be more competitive in the future.

So di I, I'm a massive Nix fan as far as second teams go. I wish them to be runners up every year from now until the end of time. :P

But signing Finkler as marquee imo, is a bad move.

He is a Wellington Phoenix marquee, Hughes probably earning more lawl.

They had no marquees this season, probably just so they could meet the minimum salary.

What I don't understand is why they didn't give Bonevacia the money and tie him down long term, better than both Barbarouses and Finkler.

Holy shit, just looked up Bonevacia and he is younger than me. Thought he was like 27 or something. He renewed his contract at the start of this season and it ends at the end of next season. I suppose they can put him on good money under the cap when they next renew his contract, but I wouldn't take that chance with a talent like him. Would be a quality marquee for teams that don't have one.
