  1. Was at the game. Crowd wasn't too bad, all things considered.  Absolutely oppressively hot. Our boys wanted it more both attacking and defending... shame bout the penalty as I reckon the flood gates would have opened

    Bos is a freakn gun

Good subs by Rado ... all helped us keep control of the game

Nabbout is horribly out of form and could have cost us a goal with several poor decisions

Big effort by the boys. Congratulations

  2. Simple solution is that Active groups should be bound to behave in accordance with a a code of conduct.  If they breach these codes, penalties could range from removed privileges, to active being shut down, all the way through to actual team penalties (loss of points, and behind closed door mateches).  Anyone who is an active member should have to agree to the code of conduct.  Also, each Active should have leaders, recognised by the club and the league.

As much as active members like to think they are independent from the club and matchday rules, they aren't.  They are simply one part of the crowd.  Their behaviour should be reflective of a family friendly atmosphere, not hostile chants and aggressive actions

  3. Net damaged by a flare. Camera man injured by flare. Still no word on Glover.  Looked like a fair whack to the head. Cameras caught it, and the victory thug who did it, who needs to be sent to prison  Decision on game still being made.

Victory should lose points for this and be forced to play to no fans for the next 5 home games

  4. I felt for Nathaniel ... he was brutally exposed ...  Mbappe is a beast of a player.  One on one, even at Champions League level he tears players apart.  Arnie's plan of having an inexperienced young defender on him was a sheep to the lions scenario.

France very quickly worked out how to completely annihilate us all over the park.  I reckon Kewell was on the money, we needed to be a bit more aggressive at times, but this would have meant making subs much earlier.  3 at the back with two wing backs may have worked better and given us more cover ... Tilio should have got some minutes

Without sounding dire, I doubt we will win a game this cup.  Tunisia will overpower us, and we will have no answer for Eriksen.

To me, that is where Football Australia fucked up - they should have brought in a new manager (someone with serious credentials) and instructed them to use it as a platform for next world cup, rather than a regression in result from the last cup

  5. Couldn't see a topic for this ... so here is one

I predicted a 4 nil loss to France so pleased we at least scored one.

Mbappe was in beast mode, Nathaniel needed some more cover

Thought Arnold could have brought on our young attacking options a bit earlier to try and help us get forward a bit more, but the truth (reality) is Framce is 3 classes above and could have scored 8

Just as a note, the following players that played day have all had time at Melbourne City (Heart)

Behich (our best player today), Goodwin, Leckie, McGree, Mooy

  6. TBH, that ref was shite all night ... he managed the game with no consistency or authority and looked out of his depth ...

TBF, Wellington also look good for goals all game. Ufuk is a decent tactical coach and he beat our team structures with his positioning against our style.   This happens most times when we get a decent run on and beat a few teams in a row.  A better tactical manager comes along and works out how to beat it and PK doesn't know how to respond.  They were just set up well to be effective in creating hesitation for our players moving forward, which then created a bunch of turnovers, that they were ready for, and when this happened, off they went

There 2nd goal came from an exact moment like this, where Leckie held the ball too long in attack.  He was seemingly in a good position, so our team moved into an attacking arrangement, but they created the turnover after he held the ball for a few seconds too long, and then went forward and eventually scored.

This game was always a danger after the derby win ... the only consolation I take is that we didnt lose (Heart days we would have lost 2-4)

Perth at home will be a good chance to bounce back.  They will absolutely look at what Wellington did and try the same

  7. Was fantastic watching.

Very interesting to contrast the clear differences in cultures between clubs when comparing the first 3 episodes.  From episode 1, you can see why Popovic is highly rated.  Warren Moon's style is very casual and it was fascinating to see Charlie Austin's blow up against Connor Chapman - there was no way they were coming back from that against us in round 2.

On PK, its pretty clear now to see why some players wont gel with his style, and get seemingly frozen out.  His style is probably akin to Alex Ferguson ... this is a summary of Ferguson's style

" Alex Ferguson leadership style is said to be tough, aggressive and loyal with high ethical standards and commitment toward and from the players. Many of his players highly regarded him and considered him as a disciplinarian with a hard character and a stubborn man."

If anything, this little doco will be invaluable for future signings whilst PK is in charge.  If you think about it, when a potential import player hears about Melbourne City and what the club is about, it would sound like a promising prospect ... but in reality, if a player rocks up and cannot accept PK's style, its gonna be a horror show.

With a manager this intense, the players signed need to be comfortable with his approach upfront ... and now at least they can see it up close and personal ... players that respond to this style will do very well (like Berisha who seems pretty intense).

Sort of explains why Noone, Jenkins, hightailed out of here at the first chance, and why the Italian guy got close to no minutes ...

I'm happy with how we have improved this year so far.  If PK can keep this up, even with his intense style, then all good for me.

I do tend to agree with @jw1739 ... at certain times, it would not be a fun place to work!

  8. On the verge of his second World Cup, Socceroos veteran Aziz Behich is just trying to take it all in

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-06/aziz-behich-is-grateful-for-it-all/101478734?utm_campaign=abc_news_web&utm_content=link&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_source=abc_news_web

Absolute champion ...  loved watching him play for us back in the day.  He was a warrior on the pitch and always gave 100%.  Hope he has a great World Cup

  9. A shitty loss against a team that shouldn't be playing in the Australia Cup ... well that was no surprise!!

However, if our new recruits, and best starting 11 doesn't lift our performances (despite the idiocy of our coach), then this game is a harbinger of our season to come.

Two things summed it up for me.

1 - Galloway half heartily warming up in the 80th minute, and showing zero interest or effort as he knew that he was not coming on, even though the game called for some fresh legs

2 -  in the 4th minute of stoppage time, with the wind at our backs, we had free kick just back from the 1/2 way line ... rather than getting everyone forward for one last set piece attack via a long ball, the ball is meekly passed into midfield, then return passed back to the free kick taker ... then whistle blows ... What the actual fucking fuck?   We really are that dumb as a team in not being able to recognise that sometime a Plan B is needed!

Already starting to regret my membership renewal
