  1. Totally agree. Sick of watching us getting bullied from set pieces then not doing anything from ours. A guy like Charisteas would provide us better in that area. Would also be a good role model for Eli. Get it done Scotty and Johnny.
  2. Like this idea. Not only a very good player, is 32 so not too far gone, and would attract some new fans no doubt. Very talented goalscorer more importantly. Very much a fan of getting him. Good suggestion.
  3. So we need a striker. Badly. A guy who can put the ball in the back of the net consistently. Anyone got anyone in mind? Who would be a good target for us? I think with a few we are getting rid of or retiring we will have salary cap room to attack two positions, that being a ST and a CB of experience and leadership. Which striker could come in and fit into our system?
  4. Shroj was terrific tonight. Impressed. A very good depth player for us.
  5. Will be interesting off season that's for sure. I personally think we can improve on Worm, Williams, Maycon and Hoffman. I also think Colossimo will go as will Bolton. I would like us to target two or three experienced players. One goalscorer. One central defender with leadership. We have already added Redmayne as Goalkeeper. Keep Germano. Add Zahra and Taseski to be hopefully fit and firing. Goodwin to start left back, Behich LM. That would be ace for me.
  6. Goodwin, Behich, Zahra, Marrone, Dugandzic......... I love this club.
  7. Basically said we are the only club in the league with a clear direction of where we are going and have a set philosophy. Basically everything we all know and what I said on the Manager thread about the direction of this club. He said that when the next coach comes in he will just continue the way we are going and we will snowball (meaning have sustained success). Good to see someone in the media recognising this. Was really well said by Rudan.
  8. Mark Rudans word about our club brought a tear to my eye.
  9. Goodwin WOW. Most wasteful performance I have seen though. So many problems in the attacking third. We have little penetration. Worm.....less said the better. All in all though with us missing so many players, great performance. Take it, not overly happy but satisfied. Again Goodwin WOW. Plenty for Papas to work with
  10. Absolutely delighted with the introduction of Goodwin getting his debut. JVS legacy to not be afraid to introduce young talent in big games. Was the making of Behich, lets hope its the same for Goodwin.
  11. My heart is with you tonight chaps and chapess'. From Tasmania. Do us all proud.
  12. Really important decision, can't stress that enough. JVS has done a remarkable job. Really need to understand that he has set a culture that we need to keep going. We have a set culture that makes us unique in the league, and its something that makes me proud to support the Heart. If you look at it, teams that have been around from inception have struggled to define themselves. Ang has started to do that at Brisbane, maybe Arnie at Central Coast, but look at the so called power houses in the league in Adelaide, Visitards and Sydney and to me anyway, they don't have that definite culture of a certain way of playing and standing for. If the Roar and Mariners change coach, will they continue on their current approach? I doubt it. I understand we are yet to even make a finals campaign, but if you look at the approach from our club, it's a right way of doing things. We stand for something. We are not about spending huge money on bringing in big names and playing the style of play the current coach wants. You can see from what is said out of the club that no matter who comes in, they will continue on our philosophies and principles. Compare that with Sydney, Adelaide and Visitards, and despite their early success (when there was 6 teams in the comp) they stand for nothing. Just trying to poach big names and coaches and play whatever style that current coach wants to play. The A League is in its infancy still. In 20-30 years these infant years will make the foundations of each club. It's about long term planning and what made me sit up and take notice of this club (despite no V on their shirt being from Tasmanian) was the pure football philosophies this club wanted to impart. Two years later we have a definite culture and something to stand for. It is something I know the club won't give up on and for that I am grateful. Whilst it won't bring success every year, it is something to always hold onto. Forever Melbourne Heart. Onto who we will see, well to me, as my above long winded rant states, it will be someone from the same school of football philosophy as JVS. Does it have to be a big name? No I see no need for it to be. Will it be an added bonus? Of course it will be, but its not critical. My choice is Arthur Pappas for two fundamental reasons. One is he has an eye for talent in the local Australian pool. This in itself is a remarkable skill and one of our main principles in promoting young Australian talent and developing them. To have a manager who stands for this and can execute it at the same time is fantastic. Coming into the club even as a 15, 16 year old you know you will be coming into a club that treasures your talent and will develop it. Arthur has a strong football connection in this country being at the AIS and VPL and that is very important. The second reason is his football philosophies in playing match that of JVS and the way we are trying to define ourselves. To have a continuation of this is vital as we are building on the pitch at the moment. If I am honest I would of liked JVS for one more season as I think we are still one year away from success on the pitch, but it is not to be so someone with that same philosophy can continue the upward curve we are currently trending. Arthur has had success being the number one, is young so could be a long, long term coach for us and is a fantastic guy that is respected in football circles. In my opinion he is the outstanding candidate and will be the right choice. As someone said, get Pappas, then fear us. Sorry for the long post, just really nervous about the decision. I know the club won't stray off course and keep what makes us unique, I just don't want to turn into nomads like the Visitards. The long term future of this club could be defined with this choice, just as much as it was with the appointment of JVS. K.I.S.S. = Arthur Pappas as manager of Melbourne Heart. You know it makes sense.
  13. Actually love it and can imagine the Yarraside chanting this. Would be epic actually. If you could get the whole Yarra End chanting this chant it would be intimidating. Awesome.
  14. Very awesome. Very cool. Can't wait to hear this.
  15. Great news, the kid is a special talent. Hope he comes on and fly kicks that prick on the visitors bench!
  16. JVS is the best coach in the land. Need to keep him. We are seeing a distinguished style and that will forever be the way we play. From Youth to seniors. I's playing culture. No change of coach will change this if we embark on it, for that we need at least another 2 years of JVS. He will forever set this club on the right path.
  17. My apologies if we do, as I have said I have been to only three games. If we do, all good, think its a song that everyone could sing.
  18. Three Little Birds Dont worry about a thing Cause every little thing will be alright
  19. Biased? Maybe, but Pompey Chimes is easily the loudest chant in England and would work wonders for Yarraside. Play Up Heart Boys Heart Boys Play Up Simple yet effective and easy and can get most of the stadium involved, or at least everyone at the Yarraside end. Stand, hands in the sky and sing out loud those easy two lines. Can be used when there is a break in play, before the match begins, after a goal is celebrated. Simple.
  20. I have attended three games, two this week. I travelled from Tasmania to watch the Heart who I like the most. I could never support the Victory with the Big V so when Heart came I was all over that shit. I am from England, Portsmouth fan, yes the red and white took some getting used too. Anyway, I came over once in the first season (crowd 4,000), and then twice this past week (crowd 7,000). I hope to make it more regular. Much improvement has been made with the Yarraside, you sense on on TV also. Well done on that. For the numbers you sound terrific. Need to increase the numbers. Plenty more improvement can be made. Needing to involve more people is the hard thing. Hence why some chants need to be integrated that are simple and everyone can get involved. I noticed that a lot of people seem to generate to the Yarraside side of the ground, yet a small percentage participate in the chants and vibrancy of the group. It's an issue no doubt. I was sitting on the corner of the stadium in GA, Yarraside end, and I think it would be beneficial for the Yarraside core to integrate themselves and get around to other followers. Just an idea. Maybe talk to people in and around that side of the ground and ask them if they understand the chants etc etc. Also inviting people to the pub after the game or before the next game. If you have 10 core members bringing 5 new people from the ground that's 50 new members that could be core. A lot of people seem to sit on the side and watch and you can see they want to be involved but maybe are too scared of integrating themselves. Get out to them. They are there. The main thing is to integrate a lot of simple chants into the 90 minutes and before the game. Once this has been established then you integrate and communicate. I'm not sure if Red and White Unite and Yarraside are one entity, but you should utilise each other to make the matchday grow. Podcasts and publications should encourage it to grow. Please do not see this as having a go at Yarraside, it is not. I appreciate what has been done and think your easily the best Terrace group. The BWB and NT have greater numbers but less originality and do not sing when they are losing. Number one rule of Terrace and they fail. Yarraside are very good at finding their voice when chips are down, like last Wednesday night. Kudos, the culture is built by fans and the culture of the heart out plays that of Victory.
