  1. And lastly, I love Germano's excitement when he scores. Disappointing he got a card. I thought it was a yellow for taking your shirt off, not for lifting it.

If the shirt covers your head you get booked. If he lifted it to his chin like Fred did in his celebrations, no card, but because he lifted it over his head it was a card.

Fifa rules state that a player must be cautioned when:

    • In the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative derisory or inflammatory
    • He climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored
    • He removes his shirt over his head or covers his head with his shirt

  2. Both Colosimo and Vranks are smaller Center Halves (Under 6 foot) and therefore IMO really should not be paired together, esp when the opposition side has a Center Forward like Heskey roaming around.

Gerhardt after a shakey start has been revelation at CB...

I agree he could also be great at DM as well but I think its not worth the risk of moving him there this Season, as its great to have stability with your Central Defenders. (His Height is also a invaluable asset back there ATM.)

Based on Wikipedia (not the most reliable of sources) Gerhardt is only 1cm taller than Colosimo (1.84m vs 1.83m) - both 6'0"

    Vrankovic is 1.81m - 5'11"

Not disagreeing that stability with Gerhardt in defence is important, just don't think the height argument cuts it.

  3. Interesting use of language by Scott Munn there. Not interested in Neill just for the rest of the season, but interested in a longer deal.

In other articles Heart have been quoted as ready to sign someone for 18 months.

However, unless they need the salary cap room, there was no need to release Gray to make room for Neill.

  4. Next 4-5 days? There's 24 hours left before the international transfer window closes!!

I know the Australian transfer window will remain open until the 14th of Feb, but can we still sign Valeri from Italy after today/tomorrow?

Yes, It's the destination country transfer window that matters.

  5. As for didulica, he's a lawyer which is why the players contracts seem to be constructed well. Apart from that, what football background does he come from? It's one thing to be able to create good player contracts and to be a good negotiator, but another to be able to identify and scout high quality players with potential and have first class footballing connections.

JD is a former Melbourne Knights midfielder, former legal counsel for FFA and former CEO of the PFA. Along with his brother (and current Heart assistant coach) being a former goalkeeper in the Eredivisie and Croatian national team, I think he probably has fairly decent footballing connections.

  6. I know your not keen on having a punt, but a lot of us are. When the club are naming 23 guys for a 15 man squad it's a bit shit, if it was a Sunday game there would be a bit more leniency, but they were playing the next day ffs. Most clubs have 1-3 omissions per squad named.

Pretty shit when you lay down a bet and key players get cut without notice, like Golgol last week.

Isn't the point of gambling to take a gamble?

  7. I know. I wasnt suggesting anything by working this stat out. Was just bored and curious.

    No worries mate.

More a general comment then anything when people criticise our averages. I just don't understand why debries should not count for it.

Because the derbies are an outlier and it makes a significant difference to the average whether we have one or two home derbies in a season.

By removing the outliers you identify a more meaningful measure of underlying attendance growth/decline.

What also needs to be considered in the analysis of membership 'growth' is retention.

At the last fan forum, it was identified that Heart only had a 50% membership renewal rate. This means that to grow from 6000 members in y1 to 9000 members in y2 (as an illustrative example) actually requires 6000 new members to be found, not just 3000.

  8. I expect consistency and clarity from the Club.

Beginning of the year, the Fan Forum was told no marquee would be signed for a short spike in memberships. Owen and Christeas were dismissed by the Club. The emphasis has been on a Youth orientated ethic/focus.

Now, all of a sudden, we have $1.7 million to bring a marquee to the Club for 10 games? Where did all that money come from? Is that really the best use? What happened to the spike membership policy? How good of a training facility would $1.7 millions build you?

The expectation is that the Club will be consistent, clear and accountable to the Fans, and act in the best interest of the Club for its sustainability and viability.

The Fan Forum was told that a marquee had to make sense both off the field and on the field. No marquee had been identified that met those criteria and with whom an agreement could be reached. The club wasn't going to pursue a marquee for the sake of having a marquee. Owen wasn't dismissed, Heart were in negotiations with him, but an appropriate agreement could not be reached.

The "sudden $1.7m" for a marquee comes from identifying an appropriate identity that will attract corporate/commercial backers. Sponsors, wealthy individuals, etc. might be willing to contribute money to bring a marquee to Heart if they felt they could capitalise on their presence through increased exposure, creating business connections, etc. Clearly, Beckham is deemed to provide this benefit for sponsors.

Evidently those same sponsors do not see the same value in contributing to bricks and mortar training facilities. You don't make money on property unless you can sell or rent it. Heart training facilities would be based on La Trobe University campus (can't sell it) and on a peppercorn lease to Heart (no rental income).

FWIW $1.7m wouldn't go very far on infrastructure anyway.

  9. Er, if you get 20,000 extra people in though the gate at an average cost of $35 per seat that's $700,000 per game...not to mention the corporates plus food and drink sales. Sure there are extra costs but I think you'll find the club has done its arithmetic.

    Furthermore @biancorosso7, $120 x 15k shirts = $1.8m, not $180k

  10. Sometimes it’s difficult to criticise the club on this forum. Some fail to acknowledge the club can do any wrong.

Sometimes it's difficult to praise the club on this forum. Some fail to acknowledge the club can do any right.

Seriously, have you read through the threads on this forum? Criticism:praise ratio is about 2000:1

A summary of the threads to date would suggest:

    1. Every player should be sacked, none are fit to wear the shirt

    2. The CEO and Football manager should be sacked

    3. The club should never concede from a set piece - to do so suggests that we have failed football

    4. We should have 1000+ passes with a 100% completion rate every match playing tiki taka - if we can't do that by Season 3, we have failed

    5. We should smash every team 11-0, any player who doesn't score in each match must be crap and should be sacked

    6. We should sign 100 different strikers with a combined wage bill of $1b to compete for 1 place and by definition 99 of those players must be crap and should be sacked because they don't make the first team

    7. Every player should be 100% fit for every match of the season, if not then our medical team and footballing department has failed

    8. We should have a minimum 20k crowd every match, failing to do so means that the club has failed because all the staff are inept and know nothing about running a business or football club

I can't imagine why any 'prospective' member reading about Heart would want to support such a terrible prospect both on and off the field.

  11. Perhaps 'Game of cojones'

Visually (and to a lesser extent aurally) it is similar to thrones.

Its meaning is more in line with balls of the testicular variety.

It provides a Spanish link that is relevant to JA.

  12. After our chop/change this off season, it would be good for JA and JD to do something similar with the core of our squad.

Whilst I understand there will aways be some players moving on, I don't believe we should try and replicate the turnover of a caravan park. That is not the way to build a solid club with a loyal support.

This was what Heart was doing when they signed Babalj, Hamill, Behich and Hoffman to longer term contracts. It's no guarantee they will stick around though.

  13. the membership brochure i just received yesterday via emal listed 'pkf' in the kappa apparel kit design.

mind you this way membership brochure v2.

it was also the first email received all year.

The merger/acquisition only happened in June and is effective 1 July. Rebranding hasn't happened yet so it's not surprising that PKF is still in all collateral.

PKF website doesn't even mention BDO.

BDO website doesn't mention Melbourne office yet.

Knowing how partnerships work, there's probably plenty of details still being thrashed out.

  14. I reckon Paul Scholes could still do a job at MH...

Scholes has earned more $ in 2012 than Hoff has (or will) in his A-League career

    What is your point?

My point was that while I agree 100% that he could do a job at MH (in playing or coaching capacity), the likelihood of that occurring is nigh on 0.

Maybe my attempted humorous comparison intended to inject some reality to the discussion missed the mark.

  15. What's the set-up of that Indian Premier League now? Last I read it was six teams playing each other twice over a period of seven weeks? When does it start and finish?

Indian Premier League = 20/20 Cricket

    I-League = Football

There are 14 teams in the I-League. During the course of a season (from October to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 26 games
