Im sure the ALeague negotiators won't be as stupid as the NSL ones were either and not put a clause in the contract about broadcasting conditions. I agree that whatever deal the Aleague sets in place with a network it will be better than the NSL experience. Speaking with the past in mind, one difference though between AFL, cricket, V8 and soccer is that they are all considered Australian sports except soccer. It's one of the reasons why the NSL really struggled when on Channel 7. That doesn't mean every football supporter is carrying a chip on their shoulder if they point this out, as it's just the way it was. But there is legitimate reason for being apprehensive due to the extremely poor track record the game has had with the major networks. I think looking forward though it should be a fantastic thing and I'm all for it provided whoever buys it does the game justice and promotes it just as hard as every other sport. Channel 7 used to broadcast the yankee doodle NBL during their hey day which was well before the NSL/Ch7 deal. If it rates well and makes them money they'll show it, which is why they were happy to show Glory games in WA. IIRC, NBL was rarely live when I was a kid.
