  1. is this for content in hi soccer diary project?
  2. they wouldn't want to give the impression to anybody thatThe A league is worth more, and of interest, to anybody at all, until their lowest bid is the succesful one. Then they will flog the shit out of it until NRL season. Then it will be crickets chirping and deafening silence so their 900m NRL investment is not impacted upon. I am concerned that they are buting A league to control it as they see fit. Big breweries like Carlton buy dozens of boutique breweries every year for the very same reason.
  3. Adelaide have announced Bernardo Oliviera on a scholarship.
  4. Actually i think Tillio has a pretty good left peg, a bit stronger than Colokavski is on his left foot. so i think Cola on right and Tillio on the left.
  5. Both Noone and Nabbout were poor in this game. I think it has a lot to do with their lack of familiarity with the respective left and right backs. Galloway and Garruccio don't play as Nate and Jamo have done so. The expectation is not fulfilled for wingers and they seem a bit lost. I know they all should be playing the same 'city way' but in reality the small nuances in each players individual style actually makes a significant difference. Lets see if they our L/R flanks can show more cohesion and attacking intent against victory. This will be a big test for us as we are not the same team as we were for the six nil thrashing we handed them last time.
  6. Used to go to the odd home game but not since pre covid. might reconsider though. Any standouts worthy of training with the first team?
  7. Metcalfe is on 4 Yellows and i think it might be weighing on his mind. To say that he doesnt get stuck in is a bit over the top however. He has made some very important interceptions and heavy tackles while playing as a 6. He took Bratten out of the game last time we played Sydney with a high ball challenge and wiped out Simon in the CCM game with a strong shoulder to shoulder. His cards have mostly come from robust challenges as DM and he outleaps many opposition players during midfield header challenges, winning us possession. Last night i agree it was not has best game in that position, although he has also played numerous long dialgonals balls to feet from 6 position over the time he spent in that role, looking more like a deep lying playmaker. It is noteworthy that the '6' in city's structure sits behind opposition striker, not in front, as so many other teams do. The latter gives the six so much more time to dwell on the ball safely knowing that all opposition is facing them. WU, ADL, MAC, CCM all do this. Our six is expected to remain as high as possible and it puts the player right in the middle of opp midfield and retreating Forwards. it also keeps us poised to attack. I actually think this is why Gomulka has not seen much game time, as his ADL experience did not set him up for, nor has he shown ability to play, the 6, our way. That said without doubt Metcalfe's best postion is a Box to Box 8. Against Sydney last night he had three shots on from the 65th and made numerous great runs behind that were not rewarded. So i agree his talent is wasted as a six. Yes we need O'neil back in as a dedicated 6. As a reminder though, we have won plenty of games under the current Griff/Metcalfe 6 arrangement, than we have lost. And we didnt lose last night either.
  8. Ha ha,.. but seriously this is THE game that paddy needs to show he gets the experience building opportunity.
  9. Wellingong will be without Taylor and piscopo so this is an opportunity to really nail a 3 or 4 nil outcome for us. the weather is also in our favour at 21 degrees come KO. the team has travelled up today so will be rested and ready for a fast paced attcking game. i think last week is still a sore spot for all of them so the team will want to bounce back. Garuccio in for Jamo is the best oiption and he will hopefully saty fired up, positive in attck and strong in defence. Any one have a prediction of subs?
  10. In those last minurtes we has three fast attcking minded young players who could have easily rattled the aging WU defence. it creates doubt and in decision and possibly opens up holes for other city players to get on a cross or receive a ball in a good area. whats the greatest risk. lose by another goal? we were already losing the 3 points at that point anyway. I really think this is an area where paddy has to change his thinking. By the time the NT absences hit us in whatever numbers, the bench/subs players will be called upon to step up and they will not have the experience. The other thing is that i saw Nate and JMac both stetching and looking gassed with minor (possibly) niggles towards the end of the game. why risk an injury? this area of squad management need to change very quickly for quick turnaround games and the final stages of games.
  11. Melbourne City Jun or Jul (East 1.2) Shan United from wiki - this will take a toll for us as we will lose players to socceroos and poss Olyroos. I have heard that FA and APL are considering canning the AL finals series and just having the premiers plate this year to ease the problems with impact on teams and congestion.
  12. I think he would be trying to 'feather a future nest' as he knows the network of potential clubs that city can offer to coaches also. That or trying to disarm Paddy. friends close enemies closer, i say.
  13. i really rate this kid. I think he will continue to develop and contribute with goals. Team of the week and goal of the week - Again!! A-League posted a video to the playlist A-League Goals of the Week 2020/21. 21 h · Connor Metcalfe's strike left the goalkeeper frozen in the Melbourne Derby #GOTW is some icing on the cake after the 6-0 win
  14. the intensity will be extreme so i hope Paddy doesnt screw up substitution timings and is more aware of who to sub when and where.
  15. i have read that Brandon Oneill currently playing as a defensive midfielder for Buriram United in thailand, is struggling and possibly on the outer. possible like for like IRP for aiden?
  16. concerning - that can have long term impacts as a pro player. Surely we can get an injury Replacement player.
  17. wasnt it a muscle strain or lower back issue like sciatica? have they actually said a back fracture somewhere - this is a huge injury then.
  18. So he is signed until the end of the 20/21 season which is only 8 or so games. He will have to impress greatly in that short time. i tend to agree with other comments that this is the last roll of the dice in europe for someone as highly praised as Daniel. Luck has to be on his side and he will need to absolutely dominate, score and stay fit. Best of luck to him.
  19. from SBS Article: The centralised eastern group stages are planned for April 21-May 7, while the western region games are scheduled between April 14-30, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said on Monday. MCFC also have to get through the prelim on 7th april. Hoping that we make this tournement but it will be a major challenge keeping the players fit. I think our upcoming 4 matches from 31 jan - 13 Feb will give us an indication of how our squad depth and overall personnell positioning flexibility works. Lets hope their is a lift in border restrictions so that we also don't have to contend with further delays of the A league rounds. IMO we have to focus on either the AFC or A league trophy. Very difficult decisions.
  20. Arnold has also issued a warning to youngster Daniel Arzani, who is set to make an early exit on a loan move to FC Utrecht following a lack of game time. The 22-year-old has managed just 669 senior club minutes since his cameo roles for Australia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and Arnold says if he leaves Holland, his next move has to be carefully considered. "I feel he's at the crossroads of his career," Arnold said. "Even when he was here in Australia, he wasn't playing 90 minutes regularly at Melbourne City. He was coming off the bench, or he was starting and coming off. "It's just so important that his next move is a move where he's going to play." I am hopeful he comes back but doubt he would fit under the cap. His manager would not want him to devalue himself by accepting lower wages. Although if he plays his stocks would at least be stable. imo get rid of Berenguer or Noone and bring him in in Feb transfer window.

  22. I think the club needs to review its approach to scholarship contracts. Other clubs have signed older, more experienced players rather than really young prospects, however talented. The older player approach means that at least physically, a player can come in and be competitive gradually building on their game over time. From the list above our Scholarship players are 17 YO or younger. 2019 signings were Borges Rodrigues, Dukuly and Stokes are all 16 years old, Abdulahi was 15 that numbers (maybe someone else knows who they are?) they are most likely with the youth due to age and inexperience. This keeps our depth at 26 or so senior players – all within the cap. Already we can see that with a couple of injuries Nabbout and Atkinson we seem stretched. Other teams have selected older players who can come in and do a job thereby extending the squad depth, all paid for outside the cap. For example: Sydney – 5 players 18 – 21 (includes Niewenhoff and Swibel) Jets – Yengi 20, Armson 22. CCM – Alou Kuol and Aiden Casella both 19 WSW – numerous 18 – 21 YO.. (i know there are more - maybe someone else can elaborate on this list!) The A league rules state “Scholarship Players – Each Club can contract up to 9 under 23 Australian Players on the national minimum wage. Any payments above the national minimum wage to these Players are included in the Club’s Salary Cap; Perhaps we should be looking at the local NPL (like other teams have) and getting a couple of NPL 20 something’s to give us the depth we need. 3 players would be great but as I have noted I don’t know how many players in the youth (and for how long) that city have awarded Scholarships contracts. Keen on others thoughts on Scholarship Contract’s and their use. FMD i think our success with younger players particularly when they come from interstate or circumstances where they can't be with family has not worked for us. think Iannucci, Roberts, Dukuly. By contrast an older local player would be more emotionally ready for the additional 'non football' demands and would be closer to the family support when needed. we can still be focusing on contracting the best u18's etc but just use 5 -6 Scholarship deals, leaving the remainder for possibly revealing an overlooked local gem 18 - 22 who is plying their trade in NPL seniors . Extended benches and tight game turnarounds and ACL comniitments means the players would see minutes off the bench so that we could rest the first XI players when required. PS: Yes, I recognise the short sightedness of MC loaning out Najjar and Najjarine, but i feel that injuries and squad depth will hurt us this year.
  23. Probably should have asked this Q here. - another forum suggesting its feb opening. If we are getting the CB it may jave to wait another 4 weeks. then the mandatory ISO. Then match fitness etc so ready to play by second week of march?
