  1. with no official announcement they're either not sure yet or the deals done for him to stay but he wanted an extended holiday. He was still here while everyone else was on holidays... He's actually currently in Spain on holidays, and had been back home for most of last month, but not sure what that means for his future here... I really hope he stays as a coach/mentor. He's got plenty of much needed experience and a great professional. Could teach some of the boys a thing or two or ten...

FFA should be more flexible and just  have 3 Marquees even if the 3rd one is just for Australian/Asian Players.

THIS! 3rd as an Asian confed player would be good. Good for marketing also... means guys like Timmy can come home without having to make up rules just for them... Would greatly improve the league as well as marketability. If we pick up a Sth Korean marquee, and the tards pcik up a Chinese marquee, and WSW a Jap... and so on, the league's popularity in Asia will start to grow.

Sadly, I fear we'll get jack while the current shit for brains are in charge of the FFA

Yeh pretty much what i think. Any of the three trophies and an ACL berth would be hard to consider a fail imo, even if not necessarily the result we want.

100% While we would all like to win everything, we need to be realistic. Last year we very likely should have won significantly more, poor coaching screwed that for us.

Depending on signings, we could likely have the same expectations but at this stage, with the current squad and a new coach, assuming the players we sign are passes only(no terrible players but no superstars either - just to balance it out because we'll likely get a mix) a trophy of some sort and an ACL spot would be the minimum expectation...

Of course if we end up signing 3 top players and some more good youngsters then likely our expectations will rise. We do need to be patient, new coach and all, but we still have one of the best teams despite needing to plug some holes.

Does anyone know his contract status. From memory his loan period was the same as Caceras which was for last season. Caceras had his loan extended but as far as I can tell Brattan is now uncontracted. Obviously he is training.

Maybe he is getting the once over from Wazza. And if so I reackon that's a good change. Hopefully (and this is putting 2 and 2 together and probably getting 8) matchday team selection is done similarly and out of form players get dragged.

Technically owned by Manchester but started pre season with us... Their pre season doesn't start till July, so it could be he's just here for the extra work, could be he's getting evaluated to decide whether he's staying or going, could be it just needs to be announced, could be they're in negotiations with another club and the fall back is he stays another year on loan. At this stage there's not been any proper info, just speculation based on the fact that he's clearly at the club and even from end of last season, seems intent on staying in melbourne

Wazza could very well be the hard edged coach that gets the most out of Brattan. I said a while back Brattan needs someone who gives him rules and boundaries to work within. We could see a different Brattan this season*.

That's just it. I think that's what went wrong last season... He started really well then performances dropped off, effort dropped off, seemed disinterested and the spaz in charge kept playing him. Hoping Wazza puts a fire under his ass and gets him playing at his peak. On his day he's one of the best in the league...

    hahaha you funny person!

sorry, it's probably not fair to you. You do the nice thing of letting people know about the discount and I shit all over it. haha
Just over the lack of options in terms of merch. Particularly when Manchester City does merch so well... Surely they could just plonk a melbourne badge on instead and be done with it rather than coming up with new things that simple look average.
Would happily pay full price all the time for quality looking products.

Kamau Fitzy and Fernando as the wide players. They all can play either wing. So for me 3 senior players for 2 positions is doable but your right a young 4th player that can play anywhere in the front 3 would be astute.

Cahill Fornaroli combination needs to be sorted. As it is Cahill will be playing his last 30 something games (assuming finals and no injuries ) so I think they may want to find him 60 plus minutes week in week out.

For up front we've got Crowley, I suppose maybe if he can play LW that might do but wouldn't mind the extra kid to work through the team. I think it's in our best interests to have a top 1st team(use up most of our cap) and a bunch of good kids to bring through. Cheaper and obviously the future of the club, both money wise(for those that are good enough to go abroad) and team wise(cheaper long term players for those that aren't good enough to go abroad but good enough for A-League).

Let's just hope Wazza is the man to bring it all together...

    who is this brimmer dude?

ex Liverpool youth player. He's supposed to be pretty good but it's the first I've heard of him coming over to us.

We don't know that. We all hope he is but until we play a few games (which include FFA Cup games) we won't know.

The more I think about the appointment the less dissapointed or more accurately uninspired I feel.

Deep down I would have preferred a crazy Serb but it is what is.

I've said it time and again, a monkey is better then what we've had so this bloke... a human with football experience is a bonus! :D

Don't care tbh. Valkanis at least has proven himself to be a title winning assistant and will be better off for the managing experience imo, and Montemurro has done well with the women's side. IMO assistants impact is near negligible anyway when you compare them; as long as they dance to the tune that the gaffer sets then they are really there as an aid and to bounce ideas off.

my issue with them hanging around is more about them not being capable of dropping down to their previous positions. Usually people get bitter about moving down in position. Not saying it's the case but there's always that risk... Plus, how can PK be assistant with those two muppets there... :tooth:

Why have they retained the same coaching staff apart from appointing a new head coach? Surely, muppets like Valkanis and Montermurro have FA to contribute. Waste of assistants IMO.

There's no guarantee that they are staying though. The head coach was only just announced and I catually haven't seen any of those guys around other then MV in the Galekovic video... Maybe they're staying/going but we'll find out soon enough what the deal is... I'm still hoping PK gets announced as Assistant Coach

    Not sure about that.

I genuinely feel CFG want us to become an Asian powerhouse.  The only thing I think has changed is how they think they are going to do it. Initially they wanted to win and do it with style "beauty" now I think they just want to win. Especially after what Sydney produced last season.

This appointment is definitely a change in approach but I think the goals have unchanged.

I'm reserving my judgment until atleast Christmas.

Jovan, I was trying to like that comment... particularly the "I'm reserving my judgment until atleast Christmas." But can't like more than 7 times per day... that sucks

I think we need to give the bloke a chance before we crucify him... He's still a better option then anyone we've previously had.

'Style' is overrated in football IMO, I want my team to be succesful and win and if we accomplish it with more negative/pragmatic tactics then it doesn't bother me at all to be honest. We've trying playing with 'technique, individuality and flair' and it hasn't really gotten us anywhere. On the flip side you had Sydney last season who played a very physical and defensive style and walked the league.

    Results > style.

I have for many years been a fan of style and flair in football... I've seen Portugal show flair and style and outplay, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, England, etc... and come away with nothing... 2016 we ditched style and flair and won our first Euro... Clearly showed that these days you do whatever you can to get results

Last Seasons kit were revealed in September I think. Don't think we will see our new ones until A League launches its new logo officially.

:( I would have thought they start early this year being it's the first year with the "city blue" oh well, no big deal. Just curious, that's all

Yeah, it's an AFL thing. I never really noticed it at the games, but I thought Bouzanis would be an interesting test case for that sort of treatment, as it would be difficult to know whether they were genuinely booing him.

Whenever I saw that Bouzanis had been given the starting spot ahead of Sorensen, I thought it was a mistake. But I still wanted him to do well, whenever he was in goals for us (as I do for every City player, whether I think they're any good or not). Anyone who didn't doesn't deserve to be called a supporter of this club.

I was the same... wanting them to do well, although I always expected the worst with him, Malik, Muscat and Rose and was sadly almost always disappointed... The good news is no MV and no JVS as coach. Hopefully WJ can see those guys(except Rose- already gone) for what they are...
