  1. I can't believe how just how much my hype for this has been destroyed. He does raise a point though, the pitch at AAMI is coming off the Super Rugby and NRL seasons and is a mess.
  2. FFS - Tickets available from the venue. The lines to get in were bad enough at the Scratch Match that nobody cared about. Anyone know the capacity of the stadium, i'm happy to head to Ballarat for the match but if I get there and get turned back because the place is full to capacity i'll be fuming so I would like to know what i'm looking at in terms of capacity. Google search reckons up to 6k, considering its a Tuesday in August I doubt it'll sell out.
  3. With the popularity of both 3 & 4 surely both could be used in some capacity.
  4. The new capo started this thread it in there
  5. Hey isn't the game on Tuesday night? http://www.theffacup.com.au/matchcentre/Melbourne-City-v-Sydney-FC/760107 This is for the away game up there in aleague 11th October
  6. Well, yeah, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. You can operate like Donald Sterling did for decades with the L.A. Clippers, pay the bare minimum, let your free agents walk time and again, rather than paying them market value and reap the rewards of a) having a franchise in L.A.; and b ) being fortunate enough to be an owner when the league went through an unprecedented boom. That first part sounded quite similar to how Heart was operating and our owners probably were a bit fortunate that the club was in Melbourne (chances are always pretty good that someone will want to buy one of the two football franchises in Melbourne). An NBA owner, even in a small market city like Milwaukee, can operate like Sterling and just rake in the money, especially if and when they decide to sell, because someone will always be keen to purchase an NBA franchise, whatever the cost and because most teams, regardless of how rubbish they are, generally play to packed stadiums every night. But, I don't think that's the way to make money, long-term, as an A-League owner, because unlike most big-time international sports, in Australia the supply (in terms of seats) generally far outweighs the demand. Being in Melbourne (rather than say, Gosford or Newcastle) and having AAMI as the home stadium are already a couple of advantages. Really, I would have thought they were the two biggest ticks next to the club, when CFG was looking to buy. But I would say the way to make money as an A-League owner, long-term, is to do what our owner is doing. If we get the squad that we anticipate we'll get, we're either going to: 1. Win a truckload of trophies 2. Be playing in a much more highly-rated league, as other teams scramble to catch up; or 3. Both If either 1 or 2 happens, the value of the team will rise considerably. Then, if and when CFG looks to sell, rather than it looking like a fire sale of the franchise at the end of last year, he'll be fielding offers for massive money, that will dwarf the original investment. I reckon the model/plan for increasing the value of this asset is to spend the money, win lots of games, build the crowds. And then there's the stuff on the periphery like the academy (if you're one of the best young footballers in the state and had a choice, you'd probably go to the academy with a direct link to the EPL, wouldn't you?), the training base(s) that have been built and so on. The sky's the limit. I take your points, but I don't think CFG are in the business of flipping football clubs like houses. A lot of fans of other club throw out the refrain of "How is Manchester City going to look like when the owner walks away?" failing to see that they are in it for the long haul. You don't invest billions of dollars in property and development turning derelict industrial land surrounding the stadium into new infrastructure if you've got a short term investment horizon. People having been saying this about Chelsea for years too and Roman is still there.
  7. 'We are Melbourne' would be great.

  9. Pretty good selection, awesome work everyone who contributed.
  10. Whats to hate about Perth they are such a nothing club?
  11. We pay for your ground, We pay for your ground, What a waste of money, We pay for your ground. Every time they play there, they'll be reminded of us, their landlord! Have to give credit to BeardedHeart for that one and I'm sure we will be belting it out at the derby.

  13. Best idea so far, something I'm sure most people can agree on.
  14. This was discuessed at the meeting the other week, What I took from the meeting is that the new terrace will be accepting of people who wanna wear red and white and those who wanna wear white and blue.
  15. Even if we were a laughing stock, which we are not, the worst possible thing we could do is change the name less than 24 hours after revealing it.
  16. I was sitting at the end the ball went into the net for Engelaars goal and I remember it taking a split moment in my mind to actually register what had just happened When you watch it on replays it went so quick, but at the ground it seemed to float for a lifetime.
  17. Here is the rule surrounding loans if anyone is interested https://twitter.com/dougkors/status/483792212648402944
  18. Couldn't care less if its only for 10 games.. As a Chelsea fan I'm over the moon about this.
  19. That's fine. All I'm saying is maybe check with a few people in the Indigenous community (particularly those with connections to the club) before locking it in. Speak to people from the club, ask them for their thoughts. The potential for controversy is, as far as I'm concerned, very, very high. And opposition supporters (particularly those from the other club) would be desperate to seize on it. I reckon you're kidding yourself, if you think they wouldn't. Is it really worth it? Just asking the question... i think its a complete non issue tbh. Nobody in this situation is discrediting 10,000 years of cultural history like Aldi did. Melbourne became a city in 1847, part of what was mentioned in the meeting at the imp was being an inclusive terrace. Being resisdents of the city is something that unites us all and so its something that people are celebrating by suggesting 1847 in the name. It really shouldnt be an issue unless we're getting hyper-sensative
