  1. Agree with much of this. Scott Munn said earlier this week "we're really positive about the [playing] list we're getting together", but to be honest our squad really isn't that exciting ATM, and it simply doesn't look certain to challenge for silverware next season ATM IMO. It includes 14 players from our massively disappointing previous season (and whilst I'm tipping many players to be much improved, due to the new coaching staff & circumstances around the club, the club shouldn't overly rely on those 14 improving). And apart from exciting Mooy, who was signed pre-takeover, we've signed 2 kids in Chapman & Melling (that is, they are unproven, they could be awesome next season or they could be terrible, it's a roll of the dice), James Brown (ordinary over his most recent seasons, and a player the club is probably banking on improving) and Damien Duff (who I think will be a hit, but he's only signed up for a season and it's unclear if a 35 year old like him can better our team over the long term). I agree with all of JW's points (except 1) about our squad: we only have 1 inconsistent striker, average GKs, no real fullbacks, and only the kids Chapman and Archibald as cover for Wielaert, 35, and recovering from surgery Kisnorbo, 33. Although I'm pretty satisfied with our midfield options, and think our midfield just shows how few respectable options we have in defence and the striker department by comparison. The club has about 4-5 spots left to land quality signings, along with maybe a couple of youth signings, and IMO we really need to get these signings right to challenge for silverware next season. And then there's our first competitive FFA cup match, which takes place in 1 month and 1 day, and IMO unless other factors help us out (e.g. home ground advantage, and Sydney suffering because multiple players of theirs play in the All Stars match 2 days prior) I think there's a real chance that we could lose to Sydney, because on paper I think their squad might edge ours ATM (for instance, we only have Williams who is a forward who can play in the centre, whereas Sydney have Smeltz, Brosque, Ibini and Gameiro!). I think the club will ultimately do an excellent job with the playing list, and I believe the team will impress next season. But the club too much compares with last season for my liking, where we waited and waited for our first choice striker, who we were told was going to be worth the wait... and then we got Mifsud. Patience isn't always a virtue when it comes to player recruitment, and the similarities to last season (with 14 of last season's players and this slow & steady recruitment), along with Duff being the only proven new signing of almost a half-year under the new ownership, I personally find surprising. Next season will come together IMO, and I'm tipping the team to do impressively well. But if the club overly relies on the 14 players we had last season, and doesn't really make the remaining 4-5 signings count, then we may not get off to a real successful start in our first season. Totally agree. The 2 marquee spots plus the last visa spot will be crucial. If these 3 players can play 20 plus games at very high standard then we have a shot. If they don't turn out or don't reach the levels required we could struggle. In one off season there is only so much you can do to turn around a squad that finished last and 2nd last.
  2. Yep, same here. Victory, WSW and Perth are all scum as far as I'm concerned. King Malta old son, how on earth can you leave the mighty Sydney FC off your list? The club that humbly proclaimed at various times they were such things as "Bling FC" and "The Manchester United of Australia". The club that seemingly has the FFA twisted around their finger, the club that seems beloved in the media and about whom we are constantly told "need to do well for the sake of the league" (spare me). On top of all that play in the infamous colours of New South Wales - hated by all sensible people since 1857. Mariners shit me no end. Their anti football style especially under Arnold really drove me crazy. Moss is no different. Above are also worthy of note and tbh I have same distaste.
  3. We need to learn how to conductor selves better in staying on topic. How are we going to get it back on track? Like watching a train wreck.
  4. Would prefer Engelaar to Lampard tbh. Am I crazy? Yep, but fully understand were your coming from.
  5. Please tell me you found this on the internet somewhere and didn't write it yourself Rumor is actually for Manchester United. ?????
  6. Criticisms Williams receives is IMO warranted. He is just too inconsistent to rely upon. His best we all agree is match winning, his worst is woeful. He for whatever reason can't produce consistent performances for any long periods. Last season he had that patch of 4 or 5 games were he could no wrong but the rest was really ordinary. Question remains is he a central striker, winger or a false nine. I don't think he knows. Can he be of value coming off the bench? Just too many questions. After this many games he's played for us we should know. His position and ultimately his carreer could be determined this season, not sure he can handle the pressure and expectations. Time will tell.
  7. Be very interesting to see who trials in the UK. Very interesting.
  8. Is that Etihad bloke our new keeper? Never heard of him, hope he's good! Ahhh, just saw somebody already beat me to it in another thread. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. Good joke, would read again. was trying to work out the numbers 11 1 9, ?????
  9. Melbourne city's active support Errrr, nobody wearing a Fred Perry buttoned up polo top therefore u r wrong mong Also no Hayden Cunningham.
  10. Crazy huh Agree, a while ago I was critical and inpatient about some mainstream advertising, especially during the world cup. To get any airtime during August/September in Melbourne is almost impossible. This week I hope is the start of some very shrewd marketing. Yep the photo was a bit dodgy, but to put out a statement on Thursday or Friday that a big announcement Monday morning. Then produce a pretty slick press conference, then back it up with a couple interviews and full page ads in the paper. To me is a bigger statement than getting Villa for a few games. What it is is that the new management are prepared to put in the time and above all the money to do things right and not some cheap gimmicks that last a month or two. Hats off. This is the start of the rise of CITY!!! For sure. I was not suggesting that I am unhappy with things. Quite the opposite. I was referring to the fact that for four years we have all been saying that we need to invest in advertising to grow the club. Yeah that's how I read it. Just adding that this needs to be how things are done on a continual basis. To grow the club and the game to were it deserves to be will take time and money, but man when we get their it's going to be rockin.

  12. First time ive read the actual paper in 6months and wow. Front abd back page. Now that's what I'm talking about.
  13. Hang on. How can you blame the club for journalists speculating? Exactly, Lampard has been all speculation. The club could have ruled it out ages ago, but to be fair it's not really in their interest to do so. If the media and public are talking about us in regards to landing a supestar it only makes their actual announcement even more intriguing.
  14. Talk about 6 degrees of separation!! Did you root that girl before or after she rooted the guy who rooted the girl who rooted the guy who rooted the girl who rooted Shane Crawford? Coz if it's after - in a weird convoluted way - you got Shane Crawford's juices on your dick!?! I got the tism reference Yeah as Bzamora pointed out I had no idea what you were talking about...must be before my time... Mid 80s
  15. Indeed. I am all for signing Kennedy, i think he will be a genuine goal scorer at A League level. It is worth noting though that whilst he is strong in the air and good with his feet he does have a weakness - a bad habit of pretending to be a statue for long periods. ?? me thinks your wrong........... He's just a very naughty boy.
  16. Next Thursday lol If, we are to get Lampard, possibly the announcement may be made next week from Manchester????? Who knows Hoffman may announce it.
  17. What I am hopeful for from this exposure to elite training is that the mentality of the group improves. Over our short history on nearly all occasions when the stakes were high we failed. It wasn't because of talent or tactics per say but rather mental toughness. Last season when we played Wellington was so pathetic, that finals game away to Perth etc etc. In the other thread of our greatest moments all of those are times when there was nothing to lose, no body expected us to win. When we should win we crumble. If anything this step up in training will finally put the players/coaches on notice on what its like to be truly processional, what is required to strive for excellence. Villa, Duff and hopefully Lampard will undoubtedly lift the on field performance, but its the off field, training side of things that will change our fortunes. Hats off to the management this is what we've been yearning for, its here now, expectations are now also massive.
  18. Called floggers, used solely by flogs.
  19. He is bloody awful. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes and anus than have to watch him every week. Again. Be careful what you wish for
  20. Plus elevated to both Australian and International marquee. There is only one Hoff !
