  1. My late brother predicted at half-time the score and the sequence. Lopane and Talbot must be project players. Caputo deserves more time than he is getting and Politides showed desperation that was missing from the whole team.Next game start Politides on the left and Galloway on the right. Talbot must be told that he is not doing enough to merit being in the starting line up. Not sure on Nabbout's match fitness but if he is able to start then do so. Drop Natel to the bench and bring in Caputo instead. Hall acquitted himself so if Souprayen is not available then keep him there. Drop Lopane to the bench and start Antonis instead. As for the melee, Farrel said something to Antonis which fired him right up. And Kersey should never, ever officiate any sport in any universe.
  2. I suspect that the way the contracts were timed was precisely to ensure that there was a rebuild at season's end. Backline and front line have ageing list mostly in their 30s. From the last wave, City sold Tilio, Bos, Metcalfe and O'Neill - not sure on Glover. So now Petrillo is going to be looking at the next generation of youth players with a solid core of experienced players to mentor them. I don't think the ACL is in the big picture for CFG but a bonus if we progress.
  3. We don't have the cattle for ACL.
  4. Cola's goal was sensational - not breaking his run, one touch and power. Kamau is very slow and not very skilled.
  5. An improvement on Rado - on par with PK. On the plus side he is playing Sakhi in a better position, Good is improving, he makes substitutions and the squad is more fluid. He loses me with Talbot and Jmac. I don't think that Jmac should be the sole target and that Caputo should have a role because of his height and strength. Jmac is more a poacher and opportunistic. Does he warrant an extension? Who else is available? The A-League needs a thinking coach that can motivate players by not shouting at them.
  6. I think that would be the case for all clubs TBH. I think they get some input but ultimately the decision is with the bean counters. And this would be the case in most leagues. Also, Vidmar is interim coach.
  7. Aren't they also bidding for Everton in the EPL?
  8. It was Foxtel that cut the A-League as the return on investment did not meet the higher returns Rupert demanded. The rice was out of SBS' budget, so there wasn't much on the table.
  9. Well, next season could be an entirely new front line!
  10. First all businesses make projections as to the next financial year's income. How the projections track over the year with income received is critical - wildly optimistic projections mean that the only result is going to be negative. Wildly pessimistic projections will lead to no one doing anything. We don't know what the projections are but my guess is that they would be tied to Paramount's viewing numbers. And I think that it is the latter's that are causing the red ink to flow. Secondly, all broadcasting rights are predicated on a fixed number of clubs participating in the competition. Right now if a club goes bust, will there be another one to take over? Failure to comply with contractual obligations will bankrupt the A-League. I suspect that this is a motivation for the national second tier competition so that a club going bust will be supported to season's end and then relegated with another club being promoted. Third, sports that don't have salary caps at either end, don't grow or don't last. The VFA was run along those lines with promotion and relegation. They have been extinct for about 30 years. The NSL? Seriously? As I have said elsewhere, the problem is not a club issue (although some clubs are run better than others) but a league issue - starting with FFA and now with the APL. I don't believe that the second tier league will last but hopefully it will last long enough for clubs like South Melbourne to be allowed to join. I don't have a problem with the NZ teams but I would like to see either Singaporean teams or Indonesian teams join in. Enough with the WU, Macarthurs and the like. It takes a long time to build grass root support. Finally, the A-League needs to pressure Paramount to deliver a better viewing experience and instead of showing one free to air on Saturday evenings, they should make it Saturday and Sunday.
  11. The only two players that City have signed are Mazzeo and Sakhi. The former is not a bad punt because of his age and the latter is coming on to his own now that he is playing as a #6. The lack of a long term coach is a concern but I would prefer Dario ahead of PK.
  12. Well I am glad someone is keeping me updated. Thanks @jw1739
  13. I am not professional archaeologist which is what I feel is needed. Dig the graves of trophies past.
  14. Full credit to India, disciplined defensive play and they gave their all. Our front third were lacklustre in their passing. Much improved when McGree, Bos and Fornaroli came on. Silvera added extra pressure.
  15. Just had a look in Transfermarkt estimated value for Portsmouth who are top of the table for League 1. Their squad of 30 players is estimated t be almost $Aus19M. Substantially more than A-league clubs.
  16. Hey - it could have been Moe!
  17. I don't think that the speed of City's backline is going to improve no matter who manages the team. There should be a lot of good byes at the end of teh season.
  18. What is League 1 level like? If the top 6 A-League clubs were to be transported into L1 right now, would they be top half or bottom half?
  19. AAMI is central, close to eating/bars and PT. The club should not move away their games from there. As to why the club has not grown any further, that I do not have an answer. However reading the article I seem to recall that MV lost members over a number of years. And certainly with the storming of the pitch, I have not heard too many people about wanting to become members. And further than that MV were running at a loss with no big pockets to come to the rescue. Personally I feel that the A-League has not grown any further has been because of A-League decisions. Let's face it, until this season we had Tilio and Bos to watch (and I won't forget O'Neill and Metclafe). I felt that those four should have been utilised more in promoting the League.
  20. Yes, he still makes some howlers (two by my count) but otherwise he was solid. Was he lucky? Yes but also he did pressure their forwards, his distribution has improved and a stoic defence meant that they got inside the Chelsea player's heads. Chelsea would have been better off by selecting D. Williams and L. Wales who would have been a lot cheaper for the same results.
  21. The surface at Suncorp was a disgrace. About a third was a dry paddock whilst the remainder was full of divots. The Suncorp surface was not fit for professional sport. So if the Roar got an improved deal to stay at Suncorp then I am saying that deal should be that the Roar get paid to play there.
  22. With that surface that deal should be that they are being to play there.
  23. You forgot Diamanti who is now at City. Of course, I did forget the first casualty being our very own Rado.
  24. I wonder who will be the first coach/manager to be sacked? For me it is likely to be John Aloisi.
