He did play his heart out for the shirt.  OK the Cup speech expletive was rather knowingly done,  but I'm kinda sad he's gone.  If we can import Bud and sit him on the bench, we can see him through an injury, surely.

I think the expletive was Bruno, not Brandan

    Yeah, you’re right.

Also I’m a foundation member of the Neil Kilkenny fan club, so that’s part of my problem!

Anyway as to spectacles I think styles make games and 2 cagey counter attacking sides are likely to be games for purists only.

i expect it to be 1-0 or 0-1. If we win it’ll be a MCCormack special that gets us Home coupled with a strong defensive game.

Agree. The only problem with Malik this season is 2 red cards in only 10 rounds of football. That's borderline becoming a liability to me.

It is and has to be considered. In his defence i think you can probably argue both reds were harsh, but nevertheless, noone else has a red, let alone two.

but he's Wazza's boy... so he can do no wrong

  5. Popovic sacked by Turkish club Karabukspor

The former Western Sydney Wanderers mentor guided his side to a 1-0 Turkish Cup loss on Friday morning (AEDT), his eighth defeat in all competitions since joining the club in October, with Karabukspor languishing at the bottom of the Super Lig ladder.

Popovic had been planning to bolster his struggling squad in the January transfer window, but having only posted three wins since taking the reigns, the club has run out of patience.

Turkish media reports Popovic will get a 900,000 euros (A$1.4 million) payout as compensation.

Popovic's first foray as a head coach in Europe had been far from ideal, with the Super Lig club recently thrown into chaos with the entire board of directors walking out en masse last month amid a financial crisis.

Karabukspor have a history of ruthlessness when it comes to coaches, churning through eight mentors in 31 months before appointing Popovic.

Just read that Austrac is charging the CBA with over 53,000 violations of the money laundering act and further more the bank consciously made a decision as to which transactions were to be reported to the authorities. CBA is claiming a system error but Austrac is arguing otherwise.

tip of the iceberg.. if CBA is doing it , then I'll bet my left knacker that the other big banks are as well

  7. Merrick to go window shopping after O’Donovan blow

"While Caltex Socceroos legend Tim Cahill is available after leaving Melbourne City, Merrick all but ruled out a play for Australia’s all-time leading goalscorer.

“Tim will probably go overseas I would think. Tim’s a very good player. He’s not the type of player we actually want in our side.

“He’s an excellent player. He’ll have no trouble finding a club.”

Identity politics is politics that places overt focus on a persons non-controllable characteristics such as race, sex, age etc and sets them in a form of heirachy based on your level of oppression. For example a straight, white male's opinion is the bottom of the pyramid because they cant possible understand the things those deemed more oppressed have been through.
It's an ideology supported by the left today under the guise of anti-racism,feminism etc and places more value on groups rather than the individual ie if you are from a certain group you are expected to think a certain way etc.

I was pretty much going to write the same thing but to add that Identity Politics has become so popular these days it has also not spawned a Counter Movement from the Right which pretty much does the same thing but in reverse...

However in a far smaller, more subtle and less organised manner.

    thanks for the "lesson"

welcome to the 21st Century .....

    thanks

The Australian Political system has been forged on Class and Economics and lets face it this system has proven to be a good one we are hardly living in the worst city or country here in a comparative sense.

However at the moment for whatever reason (perhaps social media) there is too much conversation about Identity Politics. Identity Politics does not align with the traditional lines on Class Politics on which the Major Political Parties are drawn and I think that is a lot of the reason why average Australians are so confused/disillusioned with things and hence all the leadership changes.

I mean Julia Gillard is going to be best remembered for giving a speech about being a Woman, Tony Abbott likewise for simply being a Catholic (Despite the fact Turnbull converted to Catholicism - I never get that one)... And is this shit really relevant to how the country is run???

The reality is that 95% of Australians still vote for the Major Parties which means they must have some belief in the Tradition of Class/Economic Politics and not Identity Politics and what needs to happens is leader with a party behind them needs get things heading in that direction again.

Hopefully Bill Shorten can do that (As we are stuck with as PM anyway - and he seems to have that support) if not like I said above then the Libs need to provide a way to present themselves in such a way and this would probably be best suited by eventually contesting the election after the upcoming one with a younger leader.

Identity politics ? as like "Personality politics" ....or am I incorrect.

for as long as I can remember, late 60's early 70's onwards the personality/ identity/charisma  of the leader of the party has been as important to the Party as the politics/ policies of the party.

The Face of ( insert Political Party ) has been pushed as THE PARTY, this is who some people vote for, as opposed to the ideology of the party.

perhaps I've misunderstood your point ...

    Definitely.

the big problem is though that he seems to me that Wazza doesn’t like or need his style of player, that is an attacking midfielder who rests when the other team has the ball.

That being the case, why did we sign him? It makes no sense. Have to say I’m very puzzled by the whole thing right now.

that's what my post was alluding to . whoever did the due diligence needs to be given a good old fashioned dressing down

That's true, but you've got to give the young players a fair go or you lose them to another club. Did you have a close look at Da Silva last night? A shrimp of a lad, but beautiful turn on the ball to reverse the direction of play - love watching players like him. Atkinson's got class and clearly there's a few others who are thinking that too. Should hold his place.

Da Silva was excellent ... he has a few more runs on the board than Atkinson

I'm not knocking Atkinson.. but you don't want the " this is the new Bradman " tag after one match , lets see how it goes after a few matches when opposition have worked him out and see how he responds
