  1. I suggest you leave this thread and use it. There's no way of deleting old threads I'm afraid, and with the passage of time they become harder to find. The site owner pays no attention to requests to clean up the mess, and there's nothing more that Moderators can do.

  2. I agree in general terms, but until we have a longer season with proper home-and-away fixtures, they are going to stick around. And in the eyes of Australians they matter. Further, a true champion team will win them. The Cup IMO is definitely important, and is recognised as such by the AFC. If you don't have the intention of winning the competition then you shouldn't be in it, and any time that you don't have the intention of winning it you betray your supporters. After so many years waiting to see Confederation football I just cannot express how bitterly disappointed I was with our two ACL campaigns.

  3. Nope, unlike a fair few on this forum I rate Paddy.

  4. Agree. I'd be starting Caputo, he's a pretty complete number 9 who will score regularly with good service

  5. I still think the stitch-up award of the season goes to Sakhi's agent. Secures a release from his French club, his client signs with us for two seasons, Sakhi spins a yarn to us that his wife wants to go back to France or she'll leave him, gets released on compassionate grounds all the while having a contract lined up with a Corsican club rather than in mainland France. That's embroidery on top of the stitch-up. Second prize to Jakolis' agent, and third prize to Natel's. Leader of the current pack must be Jeggo's agent. To paraphrase @kingofhearts, 692,437 scouts and that's what they come up with...

  6. Rafa left us because of lack of match time. Another stupid decision by our club.

  7. I suspect that it is only a dream, but sometimes dreams come true. I don't think I would care if we didn't win a trophy - just to see those two playing for us would be enough. I don't think there'd be any concern about crowd numbers either....

  8. Son and Arslan + 9 planks of wood will get us the plate.

  9. https://melbournecityfc.com.au/news/join-our-fan-representative-group/ I found this. I have written to the Football Supporters' Association of Australia concerning the lack of transparency on the City FRG, who's on it and what it has done and doing, and how representation may be made to it, asking the FSAA to raise the matter with APL. Don't expect to get anywhere, but might as well give it a shot.

  10. Sonny knows us 😁

  11. Well yes. I don't think you would sign Boyle or re-sign Leckie or Nabbout to sit on the bench. You have to have a minimum number of youth players on the bench, so ageing players on the bench are just compounding what already is a problem with the squad.

  12. It will be interesting to see what happens between now and September in terms of the remaining out-of-contract players and any new arrivals. I get the feeling that we are bottom of the CFG pile, above us Troyes and then Mumbai. I have withdrawn from the auto-renewal membership option. I've no doubt that I will rejoin, but I want to see what we've got before coughing up any of my hard-earned. It's not as if there is a shortage of available seats...or that Mansour needs my money.

  13. Why would we officially announce him leaving if we were considering buying him? The club would be crazy if they pay any transfer fee for him! We could find better visa wingers for free no doubt...

  14. The more I read about all this the bigger my disappointment that we completely stuffed up our two opportunities in the ACL.

  15. Towards the end of the season he started to get going but no way should we pay 2m Euros.... save that and put it towards wages outside of the cap! Even better sign a decent coach.

  16. Jesus Christ, surely not. I wouldnt take him back on a free transfer, let alone paying for him.

  17. It actually would have been better if Mariners won the AFC Cup and another team won the premiers plate cause we would have 3 teams in Asia then which would help with the coefficient but oh well. Vidmar won a Thai Cup (essentially their Australia Cup) with BG Pathum so I am hoping he can replicate that here.

  18. What a great final. Cheering on the mariners like they were my own club and giving it to the victory supporters after the third goal... brilliant.

  19. Maclaren has never won a final with us.

  20. We won 3 titles in a row with Mclaren.

  21. This perplexes me. They may be young but there are players in the same age bracket that do get first team selection. My take is that none of them is likely to be playing EPL level in 3 years time. They showed nothing even though it is one of the few opportunities that they are going to get to be selected for the first team.

  22. Paddy K just casually managing a bunch of the A-Leagues best to a big win over Newcastle. The man can coach and it’s a shocking call not to sign him instead of Vidmar.

  24. So we have trewin, leckie and arslan playing in the all star match tonight. Women we have Pollicina, stott and Wilkinson

  25. I can't believe that for a club that won the previous three Premierships you actually think "taking one of the eventual grand finalists to penalties" is a worthy achievement.

  26. That would be stupid, one to on sell and he is not to bad.

  27. Raph Borges Rodrigues has signed for Coventry and they are paying Macarthur a transfer fee. Meanwhile Natel and Jakolis are probably sitting on a beach somewhere doing as they do in games 'fuck all'

  28. Why wouldn't you have Caputo as the main striker? At least for the first 10 rounds?

  29. I don't think there's too much "democracy" in any club owned by the United Arab Emirates...

  30. The Scottish League is grossly over-rated once you get beyond Celtic and Rangers. A complete forward line over 30...? No thanks.

  31. This all seems way too similar to the rush decision on signing Vidosic...we may assemble a better squad for next season but we'll be coached by a mid-table manager. πŸ™„

  32. Yeah. Des Buckingham just won Oxford United promotion to the Championship. Arthur Papas is an experienced coach and good with developing young players. Instead we get lumbered with the uninspiring Vidmar. I just can't help feeling that we're going backwards.

  33. Was wondering when he'd be linked to city.. Initial links were with glory hmmm article says free agent but transfermarkt says he has another year

  34. This may also be a reflection on the reduced budgets that the clubs are facing.

  35. I am not fussed about Leckie. He was injured whilst with the Socceroos and I am not sure what the injury was. Nabbout, whom I like, had, at least for me, lost some of his edge. Last season he didn't kick many goals and his assists were not at the same level as had been in previous seasons. As for Zawada, for me he was a bit one dimensional. Not the fastest player, average dribbling and lacking defensive nous. Which is why I suspect he was relegated to the bench. Caputo offers the same but with more mobility but lacking experience. I feel that with a fully fit Leckie providing leadership to Caputo, it would work. I am more concerned with our back line. And just to re-iterate, I don't have much confidence that Ugarcovic or Jeggo are up to the task.

  36. Troyes are relegated to the Championnat National.

  37. The biggest mistake they make IMO is that they point to junior registrations and then say that it's the most-played football in the country, the second biggest is to keep on the mantra that it's the "world game," and in doing so they continually overreach the actual support for the game at a senior level in terms of finance, government interest, and spectator interest.

  38. I'm telling you. CFG no longer have any interest in "turning us into an Asian powerhouse" or whatever it was they said. They don't care if we do well or not.

  39. No. He wanted to leave. Fuck him We've also won a shittone more since he's been gone /thread
