  1. We're part of an organisation that has 689,345 scouts and vidmar is the best coach we can find. Fmd

  3. Say whatever you want, but we've had to win the past three games and team has managed to do that.Yes, they haven't always been the prettiest of games, but the club has shown some character to win when its been absolutely needed. We're now in a position where we could end the tards season and even though we'll be heavy underdogs, you never know what can happen during finals! Go city

  8. Its taken me a while to get to the forum to post after this game ... but for context I attended every home game this season, and also watched every minute of all our away games (and was at this final). I also watched all of Vidmar's pressers. We got the result our season deserved. Not only that, the icing on the cake was the we provided the Tards with arguably their most famous Victory. My summation of the season is simple. Too many changes pre season, squad issues during the season (injuries and departures), and IMO probably the worst coach we've had. Vidmar is horribly negative and boring and brings nothing fresh to our club, and no doubt this negative style then influences the entire fabric of the club. I think we need some fresh blood in terms of recruitment, and we need the best coach in the league (whoever that is, I don't know, but for the love of all things sane, it should not be Vidmar or PK). Bring on 2025

  9. For 85 minutes I thought we managed the game perfectly apart from putting a 2nd goal in. After that it was a fucking disgrace. Vidmar should be sacked on the spot for his ridiculous decision to take off anyone who is a penalty taker. You can't tell me Leckie couldn't have lasted 5 more minutes. People can blame the 3 who missed, but I would have no more confidence in the blokes who didnt take one Season over, it can get fucked

  10. I’m heart broken. Club stalwart. Heart player. His career started here but more importantly we gave him a lifeline when he seemed too injury prone for most. He repaid us in spades. He’ll leave as our most capped player reflecting his strong contribution over many years. He’s Good, he’s good, he’s really fucking good.

  13. Again all has to be seen in the light of reduced funding for clubs. We're all going to be running a lot lighter next season. Of those gone, only Antonis really bothers me. I liked him and I thought he offered something different. Think he'll find a gig elsewhere in the ALM. Jakolis was patchy and finished the season poorly, Natel frustrated me and slowed play, Hall failed to develop, and Fernandez was a short term cover.

  14. I still find the entire Jakolis finding out he was Australian and convincing the biggest scout organisation in the world that he was going to play for the Socceroos at the Asian cup and he deserves a spot at their Australian club as one of the most brilliant piece of player management business I've seen

  15. Could be unpopular but I wouldn't have given Nabbout 2 years, he has shown over past 3 seasons he can't stay on the pitch for any period of time. 1 year would have been appropriate with the option of a 2nd if he hits certain criteria

  18. We did finish 6th in our worst season for 10 years compared to the visit0rs... Our football, as others have said, is very predictable; that, in itself isn't a problem if we play it better than any other team in the League. We don't, and then aren't able to solve the problems set for us by the opposition. This is partly recruitment: our CBs are good, but slow. This either prevents us playing compactly or leaves us very vulnerable to a counter-attack our DM isn't good enough for our style of play our wingers aren't good enough with their final ball Our striker had a poor season, in part because our style of play didn't suit his strengths Our bench this season was weak, with no game-changers apart from Antonis. Our coaching has been poor: poor in group management in creating a cohesive team; poor in instilling belief, poor subs management; poor tactical adjustment during games.

  19. I think India would be the right level for him. Would be nice if both him and Curtis stay within the group and go to Mumbai City. Understandable why some fans are sad but this move is much needed for both club and player.

  20. Probably an unpopular opinion but I'm tired of this ''finals'' BS. It's not a football format. I don't like paying for membership (12yrs now) and then being fleeced at this time of year. Already today I have had about 5 emails about finals tickets. The APL has got so much to answer for (let's not even mention that shitstain Danny T******d, now ruining some project in bloody Saudi Arabia, of all places. Then again, probably the perfect place for him) over the couple of years since it made the A-Leagues independent. I want investment in the bread-and-butter season, not confected hype. To get the league back to where it was a decade ago. We certainly do not deserve to win the GF this season, but obviously there is a chance we could. Good luck to the team. But.... nah.

  22. Seems the club has lost touch with reality. So self-satisfied. Trying to make sixth place an "achievement." The objective of all clubs should be to win all the competitions it enters. We failed miserably. "...etched his name in Melbourne City history, scoring the club's maiden AFC Champions League goal..." Er, we didn't get out of the Group.... I don't mind a bit of hype, but this sort of thing is ridiculous, and IMO makes the club look foolish. Surely better to say that we didn't win anything and from that perspective it was a disappointing season, but we feel that the the best way forward in the medium time-frame is to get some stability into the squad and staff given the various circumstances. You need to take your fan-base with you every step of the way, because once they leave then it's bloody hard to get them back again.

  24. Currently watching Connor Metcalf for St Pauli, he has been good for them in recemt weeks and has been a regular starter. They are 1 nil up so far, a win or a draw will see them promoted to the Bundeliga 1

  25. My preference, and only slightly, is for CCM but I wouldn't mind seeing WP winning it either. I am enjoying seeing Nisbett and Doka play for CCM. For WP Paulson has been huge. But above that both clubs play as teams. Where as MC relies on Leckie or Aslan, MV on Machan and Izzo, neither CCM nor WP have big name players. They are being coached right. SFC have a more even spread of talent, and their young players are good to very good, Tufuk Ulay has them playing as a team.

  26. I hope to see Central Coast pull off the treble. They survive on a sniff of an oily rag, and still show the rest of the clubs how its done. Smug and arrogant Melbourne City might care to go and have a look and see how...

  29. Mostly agree. I don't think our use of subs has been as poor as in previous years. We've been more willing to use those subs earlier, they have sometimes changed the game (particularly Antonis, but sometimes others) or have at least shored up tiring legs. Another factor this season has been injuries (but see also ageing squad). We've so often been without key players including the better game changers to come off the bench. Look at who was missing for the game on Sunday, and wonder what a fit Tilio, Mazzeo, Nabbout, Reis or Sulemani might have contributed. Finally, player departures or impending departures. Curtis Good was the consummate professional to the last, but we can only wonder where Maclaren's head was. And Hamza Sakhi's departure was a real loss, just when he'd settled in and found form. But having said that, yes, a grim season leavened with the occasional outstanding performance. Too often and a familiar story, we've not turned periods of dominance into goals. Albeit three more points would have put us ahead of Victory and if we believe the breathless commentariat, they are a wonderful side who have had a decent season. Only two really good sides this year, both well clear of the pack on top, and we deservedly beat one of them in the run in... The elephant in the room has been our woeful and often inexplicable inconsistency.

  31. If this guy stays longer on reportedly good money, with the same playing time as we’ve seen till date - then we have a rebuilding issue for several season's. It’s a big concern and a big recruitment error. He is not suited for the sole DM role in this league. My grandma would dribble past him and my great grandfather would come out best in any tackle against him. Lazy to make himself available to play in balls too.

  34. The fact of the matter is that that Melbourne City Football Cub does not present itself as a football club for the people of Melbourne. Melbourne Heart was quite different. CFG took over in 2124, but the colours did not change completely to the City Blue style until 2016/2017 (we hade the interim stripe colours for two seasons -see https://www.footballkitarchive.com/melbourne-city-kits/#2010s). Crowds started to slide after the 2016/17 season. It is not surprising that the decline coincides with the removal of contacts with the club such as City Voice and City Points and the gradual change to presenting itself as a business rather than a football club .I recall the message one day about how excited it was to have appointed a new Forex partner - WTF is the relevance of that to football fans? Since then IMO the club has compounded its own problem by removing itself to the fringe of Melbourne's outer suburbs. Now it cannot even let what members remain know anything about its Fan Representative Group. IMO the club's attendances reflect the interest of the people of Melbourne in it, and any damage that has been done is entirely its own fault.

  37. Yes, it's over. I think we could see it half-way through the season. Wish him, and his family, all the very, very best - has to be in the Heart/City Hall of Fame. Certainly would get my vote on that. Thanks JMac!!

  40. I've changed my opinion on Jamie Young. I think his recent performances have demonstrated that he is worth another season, possibly as No. 2. He's not a defensive problem - it's the porosity of the defenders in front of him. Against Western we were wide open every time they went forward, and we were at panic stations at the back all too often.

  41. That reminds me of Matt Simon, who, I think, received a yellow card for running from the field with diarrhoea without having time to ask the ref for permission to leave the field. It was almost a brown card!

  42. You missed a cracker of a game then. as to having to win I’m not fussed. if we can’t win this game we probably don’t deserve finals anyway, plus if we did win we’d be going into the finals with serious momentum. Bring it on!

  43. Fuck me, what is Petrillo on? Following Vidmar’s appointment as interim Head Coach in November 2023, City showed flair and ruthlessness in front of goal, "Flair and ruthlessness in front of goal?" You have got to be joking.

  45. I suspect like a lot of us I'm still processing this. Some random observations. - In the first half, and for much of the second, we were mostly the good version of City. We created huge numbers of good chances and played the sort of attacking football we all want to see. Our failing was not being good enough to put more than one in the net. - Rolling around holding your face and faking injury is not good enough. Especially when that player is already on a yellow and risks getting booked for simulation. Said it before re Jakolis trying the same thing early in the season, but I don't want players like that at the club. And I know Fornaroli and Arzani were diving everywhere. - It was great to have a bigger active, including trumpet. For once I was in the middle of it and it took me back about 40 years... The oldest of our crew is in his mid seventies and has just had his knee replaced. He had a ball and was waving his crutch in the air a number of times. I suspect it made him feel about 60 years younger. - We've got a hell of a job rebuilding this squad. It's already off the pace and we're losing more key parts with the end of this season. It's not going to be fixed by one off season however effective. I suspect we've got several years rebuilding ahead of us. And we need to learn a lot about both squad building and style of play from those at the head of the pack right now. If we were as effective with our resources as CCM are with theirs, it's frightening how good we might be.

  47. How very hardcore, showing up at a ''big ticket'' game and on FB urging people to be there. Like, where were these people in mid-season at any time in the last couple of years? I might hate the finals concept, but I go to every pre-finals home game I can make when I'm not working.......
