  1. I don't think it was a name that was ever on my list....

  2. I agree with you to some degree. Success is never given and I would not feel comfortable with supporters who felt entitled to success. Partly this is about the scale of our collapse, and the sense of the shambolic and ill judged which surrounds it. This happens to the best of clubs and the best of supporters, so it's not existential if the club takes the right steps and recognises the root of the issues. More than the poor results, the poor structure on the field or the revolving door selections, what flags to me that all is not right is the number of players who have just decided to up and leave (Hamza Sakhi being just the latest), the apparent tensions reported in the dressing room, and the stumbling development of the latest graduates of our youth program. All of this can be fixed if the root causes are honestly recognised. Then the club needs to address its long term weakness, the engagement of its fans and the clubs identity. I won't resile from the fact that CFG made some fucking stupid, arrogant decisions when they first took over, with our colours and name, and we're still paying the price for that. This was particularly a problem for many UK heritage supporters who had no love for, or an actual visceral loathing for, Manchester City. Some of us stayed, some didn't. But it did break some of my instinctive connection with the club. I chose Heart because its colours were the same as my home town club. Beyond that, I want us to try and rebuild that connection and identity. I've got no magic wand solution, but connection to players, especially our home grown talent, is important. I'd rather be fighting to get in the six with a group of committed home grown youngsters than being where we are with a bunch of players we barely know, or who appear not to care. It's been a crap season. That's OK. I've seen plenty of those supporting Walsall. What we do now, how the problems are addressed and fixed, will be what matters.

  3. Also, if Nisbet misses match time for whatever reason, he can play against the kids at half time to get his fitness or form back

  4. And his goals per minutes on the field in the ALM is just a fraction better than Erling Haaland's in the EPL...

  10. I got torn a new one on here a while back when I suggested that the team would be better overall with a "lesser" striker.

  12. I keep hearing that our team is really good on paper, perhaps we can use this paper to light the fire? And then we find out later that JMAC was actually one of the trouble makers this season…….

  13. IMO it's not just that he's "out of form," his strength is scoring goals and - as he admits himself - does not have the ball skills that some players have, and when he's not scoring he's essentially a passenger. Vidmar just hasn't shown the balls to to drop him and play Caputo instead.

  14. Heading off to this one with my son as for a change he hasn't got a shift. Win this and it will tell us where we are at, hopefully 5th if Sydney lose against Mariners and Mac beat WSW both good chances of happening. After a couple of weeks, will Vidmar play Caputo from the start or revert to Jmac? Will Reis an Soup partner as CBs or will he bring back Good? Are any of our injuries back yet? Some interesting questions here

  15. The statistic comparison with Haaland was no joke I assure you. Antonis' contract expires at the end of this season. I too think he's worth another year - very much so in fact. Almost a super-sub, and a reserve penalty-taker. Shows drive and enthusiasm and pride in the jersey.

  16. Looked like a 5 year old having a sulk on the bench last night. Maybe he thinks since RBB is boycotting games he can boycott press conferences. Thank God we never appointed him as a coach

  18. Well the last two times City had that size win, the losing coach was unemployed by the morning.

  19. Two things were obvious. First, he damn near got a couple of goals apart from a great save and a goal line clearance. One of those he had no right to get to. Second, he is a big unit, and he gives his defender no peace. He is an absolute handful for the opposition to deal with. Enjoyed watching him play, and could quickly find a new favourite player if he carries on the same way.

  20. To his credit, I think Vidmar has rotated the squad well over the weekend. Bring Good in for Reis, Leckie in for Jakolis (imo Natel has been better) if Leckie is good to go, and start Caputo again. Lastly, give the fucking man, Terry Antonis, a start!

  21. Indeed. My impression is that it is easier for a teenager to start in the Premier League than in the A League. Now as to why that would be I’ve no idea, but it seems to be a difficult environment for younger players to get a chance.

  22. Indeed, it is that kind of season. But this is where the club has to dig deep and needs to have the Academy with players ready to step up. If you follow the EPL you'll see how Liverpool (and I'm no fan!) have just had to do that, and the teenagers stood up and did the club proud.

  23. I dont see the point of bringing someone new in before the season ends unless it gets totally beyond reproach, but id be very, very surprised if CFG were dumb enough to reappoint him at the same time. Get the wheels in motion now for a captains pick gaffer signing and hit the pre-season early and with momentum.

  24. I agree with you. Too many players and staff have walked out, and IMO many of the signings are just not of the standard required and we know for a fact that Petrillo handles all contract matters. And he was nothing to do with the apparent lack of players pushing up from the Academy. Vidmar was given a poisoned chalice. He cannot be held accountable for the overall woes, because they were evident before he came on the scene. That doesn't mean that he's a good coach of course. But when you've got players who seemingly can't string three passes together, can't hit a barn door from 20 metres (just watch the shooting "practice" in the warm up), and also appear to have long-COVID, what the hell can he do? Granted his substitutions seem as stubbornly monotonous as PK's were, and I don't think anyone can work out why Antonis and Caputo aren't getting plenty of minutes. But I wouldn't want to be in his position for all the tea in China.

  25. I feel a lot of people think CFG are far more hands on than reality, a lot of the issues are down to Petrillo realistically.

  26. He MUST be sacked. Give the job to someone who at least has something legitimate to prove. IMO this guy is easily the worst we've had. Given his history, and then his appointment as a caretaker coach, it's really turned out disgracefully for the club. The players need a spark. They need hope, they need someone to inspire them. This guy is naturally negative and devoid of creativity and ideas. I honestly think Jammo would be a 10 times better option for the rest of the season. And for the love of God, I hope they do not reappoint PK

  32. Massively underrated signing in the pre season turning out to be providing all the doubters wrong! He's a one man highlights reel so far this season...

  33. Jakolis did provide the through ball for Caputo to centre it for Natel's goal. Take and turn was sublime. He also was somewhat the provider of the assist for Caputos's goal although Caputo had a bit of work to get to it. Caputo has done really well with his last two games. You'd think he'd have to start again next game

  35. Of course we have this wrong here. This approach only works when your players on the park are well truly able to execute this plan, this crop doesn’t have quality to afford to play like and behave like this. This is benchmark talk! This is the complacency I keep pointing out, during the covid seasons our squad was just better than the competition.

  38. Auckland’s recruitment chief Terry McFlynn also believed to be courting Melbourne City’s perennial poacher Jamie Maclaren to add to a mix of predominantly Kiwi-bred talent. https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/coveted-mariners-rock-opts-for-auckland-in-blow-to-champions-605936

  40. I can only think the bloke has an issue that means he can’t play out a match. As nothing else explains why he doesn’t start.

  41. We've had one bad season after so much success and suddenly the entire club is collapsing. No one is defending the season that we are currently having but we been very successful for what, nearly 5 seasons now. It shouldn't come as a shock that we cannot win every game of every season. Sometimes we're going to be shit and we just have to deal with it.

  42. He has our team set up terribly. Way too much space between our midfield and forwards, especially when we lose the ball up front. Once we've lost the ball up forward the opponent easily plays to the next line, normally centrally. When we went to a back 3 last night (which I'm convinced was an idea from the assistant coach), with Arslan dropping deeper, and the extra man then in the midfield we actually controlled the game and attacked with meaning, and really on any other night would have at least scored one The same old setup, with players not good to enough to execute effectively means we are so predictable it's not funny. It was obvious after bout 15 minutes last night that we'd lose, via some cheap goals ... and yep, that happened. I feel for JMac. His slump can be blamed on the team as he gets next to zero service, and his confidence is absolutely shot. It's happening with all our forwards. No doubt in my mind, a better coach would have us winning more than we're losing. Trust me. The team is strong enough, it's our style of play and management that's killing us. Time to fuck off Vidmar. Go back to Adelaide and take your recruitment mate with ya. Club needs some fresh blood. Complacency has crept in. Other clubs are showing us how to do it and are going past us. This shouldn't happen

  43. everyone saying "Time to go" hahahah Nothing changes this season whoever comes in might as well just keep him and play the likes of Caputo, Lopane, Politidis

  45. Fotmob has some interesting stat's for this season for City players. Jmac is third on expected goals at 11.2 and exp goals on target he leads at 13.7. However he also leads by a long shot on Chances missed at 16. Interestingly, Caputo leads the league on xG per 90 mins and expected assists per 90 mins and secobd on shots on target per 90. Jakolis is actually 3rd on expected Assists. Caputo is third on successful tackles per 90 as well. Reis is equal second on penalties conceded. Young is third with clean sheets. Good is second on accurate passes at 69% and Souprayen fifth at 66%. Simple conclusion is that it's Maclaren's poor season that has condemned us this year, that and the refusal to sub him with Caputo or try something different say like Leckie up front
