  3. Just projecting that forward...means that we could expect success for City around 2060?

  8. Cup qualification has started in Queensland, with one of my old clubs*, Southport, having a big win over Oxley. Now I’ve no idea what the plan is here, will the final be in the next season? and good luck to teams from Victoria, The Lockdown State, it’s hard to imagine they’ll be able to compete at their normal level. Information seems a bit sketchy, I guess I’ll keep digging. * I’m confident it was my association with their junior teams for a couple of years in the late 70s that led to this victory.

  10. I always have the expectation that visa and marquees are the players we should be able to rely on during a form crisis, players who take the team by the hand. In our case it's debatable almost that these key players are creating our current low on form. I fully agree about the system topic you've raised. I know we talk alot about specific younger players leaving us for other clubs and suddenly seem to perform. Well there is perhaps one thing we might overlook here, Genrau is the best example. Dennis Genrau plays in a midfield with 2 performing Visa players in Benat and Puyo - he can focus on his game and develop from there. What I'm trying to say is; if we have this core of group of key players sorted who can week in and week out carry the team, our youngster will thrive. This will also give a coach more confidence in giving young players more game time. Something we barely do because we are always hanging in there for results and scraping out the perfomances. This is where we go really wrong in my mind, the fundamentals are not there to develop youth in our first team.

  11. Some recruiting has been OK though - interestingly the squad looked pretty good in the Joyce era. Best visa probably Bart (IIRC recommended by JvS), others of note for me de Laet, Jakobsen, Shayon Harrison was a nice pick-up, McCormack and so on. Delbridge even. IMO overall we have had the players at our disposal, but not this season.

  12. This does my head in. The perpetual myth of the participation rate converting to A League support. From being involved with grassroots for decades the vast majority of juniors are not interested in the A League and are not interested in soccer full stop. The vast majority play because it's the best option for little Johnny and later years Jane to participate in organised sport, but not because of any passion or interest in the game itself. The endless attempts to convert participation in support of the A League is flawed they just don't get it. They need to accept that soccer is a minority sport and should target it's connected market and strive to engage with those rather that this utopian dream of becoming a top tier sport.
