  1. Good on him. Didn't do particularly well in Melbourne but was honest and conducted himself well, even when he knew he was up against it. I hope he does well for himself in Asia.

  2. Safuwan would be a decent utility to have if he wasn't a visa player, but anyone who thinks he is half the player of Georgievski or Germano is kidding themselves. When Germano is fit he is an excellent player by A-league standards, his quality has never been an issue, only his fitness. If we have a spare visa spot when all our other signings are complete then by all means sign Safuwan, but I dare say we have better uses for our visa spots.

  3. Reality is your supporting a ghost Not too sure about that. Melbourne Heart looked pretty alive to me judging by the performances last season.

  9. I understand that every aleague 'club' is more of a franchise that's anything else, but the way City goes about its business makes it feel less like a club than it should. From the way they conduct their business to their questionable decisions right through to their poorly structured holiday clinics I wonder what goes on through the minds of the people that are running the show. Surely the goal should be to 1) Make your supporters feel they are united with the club 2) Have the best possible product available to your members compared to your competition. What are these people behind the scenes doing...

  10. I'm not surprised that there was a negative backlash at both NYCFC and Melbourne City. Not content with the Villa disaster in Melbourne the CFG publicity machine did it again with Lampard to New York. That said I would have thought that CFG, rather than run for cover and hide under a stone, would see the Manchester City visit to Australia as an opportunity to mend the fences with Melbourne City supporters. As it is, playing Adelaide behind closed doors on the Gold Coast is just another kick in the teeth for us. FFS CFG, get your act together.

  11. For an organisation that is supposed to be run by PR people and with PR (for Abu Dhabi) at the centre of it, they are amazingly bad at it. Only some "with special skills" could turn bringing one of the best strikers in the world to Melbourne into a disaster.

  13. SFC already have Smeltz, Naumoff, Brosque and a few up and comers of their own. I can see him going to WSW since they lost Juric. If what MLBHRT/ESSENDN/MUTD/INFO@VOLKSWAGEN posted has any truth to it and Kennedy doesn't play on next season then I hope Babalj comes to us!

  15. would prefer babalj over Kennedy. Would be pissed if he came back to the a-league for another club

  16. Was a better game. Can't tackle like that (woods & Jennings try's) and win at this level.

  17. Two things that are different about the training facilities: 1. It's a fixed asset and it will be there for many years to come, they probably factored it into the price they paid for buying the club, as something (adequate training facilities / not wheely bins) that's needed to run a football club. Whereas for seasonal expenditure, there is probably a set budget which doesn't allow for any over the top spending. Which makes sense to me, we seem to be operating on a similar amount of money as Victory and Sydney, the two most financially strong teams in the league outside of us. In the long run, these three teams should be the strongest and we will win our far share of championships. It doesn't make a lot of sense to spend significantly more than every other team, especially when there isn't a whole lot of revenue to be made in the A-League. I've always believed, and CFG have side it themselves, that they want to run a sustainable club, not one that relies on constant investment of capital. Training facilities are a one time investment that will last for many years and provide us a huge benefit going forward, an asset. Spending large amounts of money on player salaries a season, an expense, which far exceeds our revenue does not equate to a sustainable club. I dare say they only want to tip in money for a few years, and then after that the club will largely fund itself. We have seen with Manchester City that CFG did invest a lot of money, but then City's revenue also increased over the years due to the smart investment from CFG, and now the club is actually sustainable. CFG were never looking to throw away money, all the money they put into Man City was a calculated move aimed at making money, and it looks to me like it's been successful. I dare say there is a similar model for the other CFG clubs, albeit on different scales. 2. As I've stated before, CFG are serious about using us for youth development. It's why JVS is still here, and it's why the facilities were built. A wise investment by CFG if you ask me, Australia has great sporting talent with the right physical and mental attributes, what we've always lacked is the technical ability and if CFG can provide the resources (facilities, coaches, expertise) to develop the technical abilities of young Australian players then it will really pay off for them.

  18. CFG have brainwashed NYC supporters into the trap of "small winning streak will win you the title"... Buddy you have a lot to learn and suffer before you get anywhere near a title like us hahaha. Welcome to the city family Buddy you have a lot to learn about sarcasm

  21. They can shove sky blue and hand-me-down kits down our throats all they like, but I will always support The Heart and never support Manchester City! I have a feeling that CFG assumed/hoped that 'spreading the City brand' by plonking a 'City FC' in Melbourne and New York all the new 'City' fans will automatically become Manchester City supporters! Yeahhhh...doesn't really work like that... Liverpool all the way baby! Oh...and I really hope Real smashes City in July

  24. The Iain Ramsay Story should be told to every youth player. Don't let crap coaches talk to you about playing in a position you are unfamiliar with. It will destroy your career. And for those who follow the bombers in the AFL that would be translated to Jake Carlisle.

  31. I'm not saying that it's definitely this, but the fact that there's no clear cross-team publicity eventing may be to do with the way that CFG have monitored the reactions of fans of the non-Manchester teams since their takeovers/creation (Khaldoon has publicly admitted in the past to reading supporters forums, and there are certainly signs that they've read NYCFCForums) and particularly got their fingers burned with NYCFC. I know this forum has been more welcoming of CFG, but up until recently the NYCFC fans were pretty venomously anti-CFG and complained fervently about the cross-publicisation of Manchester City that went on across CFG twitter accounts and Facebook pages, leading to practically all references to Manchester City to be pulled from them both excepting in instances where the interests of the two teams collide. On top of that, when a couple of Manchester City players were introduced to the crowd at Yankee Stadium at the end of May when City were doing their post-season tour, they were booed by as many people as cheered them, largely owing to the Frank Lampard disaster. In that study on brand value which I know was linked here a week or so ago, in the CFG interview it talked about how they noted that, while fans of the "other" CFG teams seem quite interested in each other, the reaction from most is that they don't want to be overtly linked to Manchester City, and the guy who was interviewed (it didn't say who he was but he was clearly a senior figure) said that had now influenced how they marketed the various teams. It's a possibility that they are simply trying to avoid a public matchup between the two clubs for fear that they will face another overwhelmingly negative backlash. Just speculation, of course. I'm wrong more often than I am right. But it's worth considering all the same.

  32. Checked back here and surprised that this thread is still active. And yes, Saf was on fire the previous game with 2 goals, but missed out today's 0-0 draw against Japan for personal reasons. STILL hoping somehow he goes back to MC, but i do think it's somewhat true that he isn't a definite starter in any position in the squad right now, esp with the signing of Ivan Franjic. And I do wish he was given the chance to show what he can do as a CB. Do you guys still want updates on the lad from time to time? Meanwhile my MC jersey has finally arrived.

  38. The guy's from overseas, cut him a break. There's a thread dealing with the preliminary rounds under Australian Football and yes, we are in a different pot this year. Jimmy doesn't give second chances. Jimmy doesn't even give a first chance. To be fair, after standing in Ballarat for 120 mins and totally losing feeling in my feet only to see us concede a Redmayne special and 2 shitty penalties, I too was referring to the competition as the Fuckin' FFA Cup.

  39. Perth have already released their 2015/16 membership drive. Price reductions and free tickets to FFA Cup matches in their offer, and free parking for Platinum members. http://membership.perthglory.com.au/ http://www.perthglory.com.au/membership/201516-memberships-on-sale/1conayqxxt3cv1bcfk23dwn29q Several other clubs have also released memberships for 2015/16. For example, Brisbane offer free public transport to their home matches. http://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/membership/secure-your-roar-membership-at-last-seasons-prices/1i4ysoj1v44uk14zk90oghhu6b I don't think we need to hurry, but IMO City need to review what they are charging and what they offer in the packages. We are among the most expensive in the league.
