  1. Its going to cop a lot of flak and should be done subtly as first... but personally I think its a good idea because its recognising how a lot of gay PPL do follow AFL. In ten years time Gay Marriage will be most likely be legal in this country as it is increasingly becoming more and more of an apolitical issue - So a Gay Round in a Sporting League really is not going to look so out of place. Why bother though? I mean, it's not like the regular rounds are known as 'White Male Straight Bloke, fuck all you other weirdos round'. It's the classic thing of everyone is trying to be so accepting and careful not to offend minority groups, that it ends up discriminating even more than if they were able to just get on with it and be treated like they aren't anything special, vulnerable or rare. Because they're not. That's equality, everyone is equal.

  2. Yes, but it shouldn't really matter. If we are genuine contenders for the play-offs we have to win this match irrespective of back-room changes at Central Coast. If we're going to use this sort of thing as an excuse - and we've used some pretty feeble excuses in the past - then it just shows that we are not worthy contenders. We have a line-up that should be capable of winning this match comfortably. No more excuses.

  6. hi guys, im new here. Become a supporter of Melbourne City because of Safuwan. here's an article about him on how Safuwan Baharudin grown through the years. Footballer Safuwan Baharudin made headlines last week when he became the first Singaporean to score a goal in the A-League, the top flight in Australian soccer. The defender bulged the net to equalise for Melbourne City in his team's 3-1 win over Adelaide United. Plaudits flowed after that, including the Man of the Match award, congratulations from Melbourne's parent club Manchester City as well as selection in the A-League's Team of the Week. Here is a look at Safuwan's rise from childhood to stardom Down Under. Early promise 12-year-old Safuwan Baharudin. -- ST FILE Safuwan's talent was clear when he was just a boy. Formerly from Woodlands Primary School, his skill as a striker ensured that he was selected to be part of the pioneer intake at the Singapore Sports School, which opened in 2004. He later skippered the Sports School team. Moving back to move forward Drafted into the National Football Academy, Safuwan was eventually promoted to the Young Lions team in 2009, which is essentially the national development squad competing in the S-League. He was just 18 years old. As he started to sprout into a gangly teenager, Safuwan's height (1.81m) became an asset in defence, where coaches believe that his aerial ability is better suited. Safuwan Baharudin won the Yeo's People Choice Award at the S-League Awards Night held at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on Nov 29, 2011. -- PHOTO: TNP FILE But he never lost his scoring touch, finding the net nine times in 58 S-League appearances over three seasons. National call-up Safuwan's rise continued in January 2010 when former national coach Raddy Avramovic handed him his first Singapore cap in a King's Cup game against hosts Thailand. Although the Lions lost 1-0, the Serb kept faith in the then 19-year-old. -- PHOTO: ST FILE Later that year, the youngster was given a starting place against hosts Vietnam at the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup. However, he slipped and gave away the only goal of the match as the Lions were eliminated in the group stage. In the first leg of the final against Thailand, he played the full match at the Jalan Besar Stadium despite suffering a fever. The Lions eventually won 3-2 on aggregate. Off the pitch, Safuwan also had a memorable 2013 as he married air stewardess Alia Qistina. 7. I am really pleased with this type of article and believe the club execs should be honest in their communications with supporters, particularly when something doesn't work out as well as intended ... I have just recently suggested that club communication be put on the agenda at the next FRG meeting as, this interview aside, it's been badly lacking at times

  12. What I like about this guy is that he's got poise and confidence on the ball. Doesn't appear to be hurried into making rash decisions. Watching a replay of our last game he made very few mistakes. Won most contests and laid the ball off well. Continue in this fashion and I'm sure he'll have a good future in the A-league. Hopefully with us.

  13. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/frank-lampard-was-never-likely-for-melbourne-city-says-brian-marwood-20150303-13trdg.html Former England superstar and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was never a likely option for Melbourne City, Brian Marwood, the football administration officer for the club's Abu Dhabi-controlled owner, City Football Group, has revealed. And while Marwood stopped short of agreeing that the David Villa signing – where the Spanish World Cup winner played only four games for City – was a "disaster", he admitted that both the Melbourne club and the CFG had learnt plenty of lessons from an experiment that left a sour taste in the mouths of many City fans, especially those who had swelled the club's membership in the expectation that Villa would play 10 games for the Melbourne team. Results in the first half of the season, when City struggled badly for form, were unacceptable, Marwood said. But coach John van 't Schip's job was not dependent on making the finals. "We will assess it in the summer. We will take a view. We are happy with JVS and the group. We have a lot of faith in the staff. And when you are on the inside you know what they have to work with in terms of the dynamics of certain aspects," said Marwood, an English League winner with Arsenal in his playing days. -------- Hadn't seen this posted but it has many interesting comments about a range of subjects. I appologise if its been posted in one of the other topics. This part was very interesting later in the article: While City will still consider sending big-name players who are probably in their twilight years to Melbourne, it seems more likely that they will send younger players from the under-21 squad over for training or to play a season if they fit into the team dynamic. Currently a youngster from Manchester City's under 21s, James Horsfield, is training with van 't Schip's team to gain experience and develop his football. Seem's like that shared mentality with CFG is starting to occur with such player movements. But this part sums it all up so well: He readily admits that the Melbourne club did not make the most of the opportunities that it was presented with at the start of the season. "Certainly the results in the first half of the season were poor, not acceptable," Marwood said. "We didn't capture the momentum earlier in the season when membership went to 10,000. We had nearly 16,000 to David's first game. But because the results weren't there ... people used to say at first that it was always same old City in Manchester and I heard it here too, that Melbourne City will take you to the point, then disappoint you. But hopefully symbols like the new training ground will show that we are here for the long term."

  14. Thought I'd start a thread about podcasts that are avaliable that focus on the aleague. Here are the ones I have found so far. Top of the League: It is on abc grandstand and has David Davutovic and Damien Lovelock on it. Monday mornings The Back Post: Also on abc grandstand but only has a host and davutovic on it and is more of a preview show. Friday mornings The Fox Football Podcast: Has the usuals from fox sports, adam peacock hosts it and it also has an EPL segment. They review and preview the games but sometimes they miss games which is annoying and then they crack the shits when you call them out on it haha. Its on tuesday The World Game Podcast: Basically the SBS version of the one above with no epl. Thursdays. Soccer Stoppage Time: Usually its out on Wednesday and is a recorded podcast of their show on mondays. They cop a lot of flack but I like them. They also include the EPL and champions league. Anyway these are the ones I listen to if there are any I have missed list them here

  15. Agreed, but I think that the (hardly challenging) Sydney-Melbourne flights, plus the much better facilities that we'll presumably have at our disposal in Melbourne to aid recovery, plus the sleeping in your own bed factor means that they wouldn't stay up the whole time. Perhaps after the mid-week game. Isn't the third game (Newcastle) at home though?

  18. I haven't seen any fault listing on this forum but I do know someone who was unimpressed by his signing and keeps on harping on any imagined mistake. I have been having a good laugh since the Adelaide game. There's been a few posts in different threads. Didn't bother to check if it was different people or not. Someone said he was slow. I didn't notice that, all I saw was 3 games, 2 man of the match performances (or near enough). for some reason I think some blamed him for the derby loss, well at least two of the goals, which is stupid. The great irony of here is that people bemone the fact that we apparently only sign old players yet when we sign a young player from somewhere noone has heard of (the very thing people have been asking for) suddenly the opinion changes after one loss where he debuted and start saying why arnt we signing more high profile players, JD and JVS have to go blah blah blah the CFG are a joke etc etc etc

  23. who is listing faults, what faults in particular? He seems top for HAL, now his nerves are gone. It would be brilliant to have him for a couple of years to go to greener pastures, not just for Safuwan ,but as a club it would mean a lot, same as the Frenchy.

  24. My interpretation of an "Invitation to three post-match member and player functions" would have been rather more of a personal invitation than just the notice in the club's e-letter. However, I now see that this "Invitation" is a feature of all the memberships I've looked at (except it is two functions for the two-match flexi-memberships). But I don't equate a notice in a newsletter to an "invitation" so I think the wording is misleading. It may be a small point, but for me it's the kind of communication shit that needs tidying up by the club. Definitely "communications" should be raised by the FRG please.

Really want to go to Switzerland aswell but not too sure yet, will be a decision I make when I'm over there. I will never step foot inside France again, horrific experience. Germany is beaut but I found it expensive compared to the other places I visited (Croatia, Spain, Prague, Amsterdam) Amsterdam my favourite for obvious reasons. Rent a bike as soon as you get there and you are set.

  27. I didn't imply that at all. In fact I actually meant that people do stupid things and make many mistakes during their lives. But having said that, it wouldn't be a stretch to include a period in a person's life where they dealt/trafficked drugs multiple times as one big mistake. I'm not your mate! Ahhaaaa!! Yeah, fair enough. I can understand why you in your position would be angry and upset about a situation like this (as much as we don't agree), and are probably more "qualified" to be than many who supposedly feel the same way. I could be wrong, but I feel like a lot of people don't really grasp the magnitude of what they are actually saying. And that, in it's simplicity, is what I wanted people to do before they decided that other lives should be ended. Fair enough Pete. So in that time assuming they have made multiple runs, perhaps even dozens...??? Of all the drugs they distributed how many have led to deaths because of them? How many lives have been ruined because of them? I think until you can sit back and have a look at just how many lives they have detroyed can you then make a judgement on these two guys. No death penalty should exist, but in Indonesia it does, and these guys were fully aware of it, so they now live with their consequences. I feel no pity for them whatsover, I do feel pity for their families in that they have ruined their lives through this. I declined to comment on this out of respect for Sheepdog. Thanks mate (not my mate really)

I have a Premium A Family Membership and have been waiting to be advised about the 'Invitation to three post-match member and player functions and closed training' as well so called just now and Mel said "2 of the three post-match member and player function's have already occurred". Apparently they were advertised in the newsletter we receive, the next one is right after the Wellington game, at Edwin's Cafe. Mel also said we should be receiving our invites to the closed training session very soon.

  35. Don't care if he snarls at every game and doesn't say a word to anybody. All I care about is if he does a good job preparing the side and managing it on game day. The club can hire anyone to press the flesh, I want a coach, not a cheer leader.

  36. That was also my interpretation. You have to assess the team and JVS based on the other A-League teams' performances and where we finish in relation to them. This year the top of the table is very close there are lots of good teams without any one standing out above the rest. The team that finishes 4th this year will be a lot better than the team that finished 4th in years gone by. So it is more understandable that we finish lower this year compared to years when there has been 1-2 good teams and the rest of the league was playing poor.

  37. It astounds and saddens me the number of people who are ok with/all for the death penalty. Forget about circumstances, the who, what, why, and where.... People should just think for a moment about what they are actually condoning, and ask themselves if they are really ok with someone being able to decide that another person should die. Are you ok with the fact that you think that way? Is that the way a so-called 'civilised society' should think and act?

  39. Great post and very interesting use of language. Reading between the lines, to me it was basically an admission that they have really fucked up a lot of things since taking over, but more importantly they want to fix it sooner rather than later. As someone who has had to witness some of the most baffling acts of idiocy go on at this club and then be given a sugar coated response when the decisions were questioned, this is really appreciated.

You could walk around the island in about 20 mins and all that was on it was a pub and dorms, so the only thing everybody could do was drink. Avoid Nadi, it's a fucking hole. Spend as much time as you can on the islands. Tower of London is probably the only real touristy thing in England that's really worth going to. Bath is worth visiting. Other than that just drink and go to sports. Having a kid has killed my regular travels, apart from Sydney away will be spending some time in the Grampians later on in the year and Perth/Singapore next year.
