Don't disagree too much with this but it shows the difference between 'very good player' and a 'nearly very good player'. ATM, Duga is in the 'nearly very good player' category. I was really happy that he joined us from the Tards and have got alot of time for him. But it's time to step up and make a difference consistently. At 24 yo, you've probably gone as far as you can technically. He's got a lot of technical ability. Now you have to carry the training track peformance onto match day. That includes having the self belief, composure and absolute desperation to prove yourself in front of the crowd - even when things aren't going well for your team. Mooy has shown this, Duff has this, Villa has this and Koren as well. They can turn in consistently good performances week in week out - and then rise to exceptional performances. That's what I reckon seperates top players from also rans. It's pretty much between the ears.6 points

Duga is twice the player Willo is, unfair to group them. Duga's close control and short passing abilities are up there with anyone in this league. Is definitely not in the mould of Ramsay or Williams where pace is there only attribute. If he could get his crossing and finishing in check he wouldn't be playing in this league to be honest. End product is the main thing that separates the next level and players at a-league level to be fair. Hopefully competition for places will push everyone to another level this year.2 points

He's a true professional and so humble, I'm very impressed. He plays with hunger, as if he just started his career, I hope that his attitude makes an impression on our youngsters and surely it signals that mediocrity will not be accepted.2 points

If Hoffman starts, then I think Ramsay needs to stay at left back as Archibald and Hoffman won't make overlapping runs and we'll be too stagnant going forward. What I'd really like is a genuine left back who can attack and defend. I agree with that Nate Personally I would leave the back four as they are, because they didn't do too much wrong. They were obviously helped with Paartalu sitting in front of them. It seemed to me in the last 15 minutes Paartalu tired a bit and that meant the back four came under more pressure, but they handled it very well. He has had limited match time, so I think he was not quite match fit. Normally he plays 120 minutes before he gets tired as CCM know.1 point

http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/4021/a-league/2014/10/13/5179150/comment-melbourne-clubs-make-statement-of-intent I understand we were the better side on the night however I think the build up for city is a little exaggerated. While we had good possession there were only two stand out moments where we looked like scoring James Brown off the cross bar and mate's attempt to miss a second net if one had been there. Both came in first half and to be honest we looked really flat once villa come on I understand we scored in that time but I fear it was more of taking our luck rather than playing good football. A lot more work I think especially with forwards running into the box when duff has possession out wide.1 point

Here's a transcript of the video interview from which that article was based: You don't hear the actual question that Bresc was asked, but unless there was very misleading editing it does look like he was asked about returning to the A-League to play for a Melbourne club. Betting markets (for what they're worth) have Melbourne City at $2.20 odds to be Bresc's 1st A-League club, whereas victory are 2.75 and the next club is Sydney at 10.00 (http://www.sportsbet.com.au/betting/soccer/australia/a-league-specials?LeftNav?CMP=SOM|SBT|TWITTER|ORGANIC|100). My money's still firmly on Josh Kennedy being signed as the marquee (we need a striker, not another mid. And Kennedy will remain 32 until mid-August next year, whereas Bresc turns 35 in Feb). But I reckon Bresc might be a possibility to sign for Melbourne City, perhaps inside the salary cap in the 2015/16 season (that is next season). There should be a new salary cap by then, which I'm tipping to have a significant increase, and I wouldn't put it past Melbourne City to do some more smart business with recruitment and to get Bresc to sign under the cap.1 point

Of course he would say that. One more nice pay cheque. Too old, too slow, needs to be managed with injuries. TBH, don't want.1 point

Yeah - These players should have a look at Baseball... I assume that was sarcastic. But for me, you can't have the option of becoming a free agent, only to also have the power to nominate a preferred club for trade, and in turn refuse a trade to another side if a better option comes up elsewhere for the team you're contracted to. Once a contracted player announces that they want to be traded, the player should not have the ability to stop a trade from happening because it is not where they want to go. Tough shit, they're attempting to escape a contract THEY signed. I wasn't being sarcastic... I agree with all of the above.1 point

IMO Parts is the key recruit this season as he really screens that defense well and is able to pass out when he wins the ball back. He also flies the fucken flag for the lads in the middle of the park... something we have missed since Shroj. In a comp where u play sides so many times a season you don't want to be that side that is known as physically easy to initiate in the guts. NOTE: Some credit does go to Kewell for doing this verbally when he could limp on to the pitch. What a joke. The cunt came to the club with a shit attitude, got handed the captaincy and did nothing for us. Didn't want to work hard in games, did fuck all in training yet arguing with refs and getting lippy to opposition players means he was "verbally flying the flag", give me a spell. Everyone wants to kick Aloisi when he is down but Kewell's "leadership" was just as bad for our playing culture than anything Bad Luck Johnny did. Stats wise you're theory simply does not stack up... JA was involved during the first half of last season when we couldn't win a game while Kewell on the other hand was mainly involved in the team during the far more successful second half of the Season. (He also played a major role in the Derby win which was by far the Season's greatest highlight.) He came on in the 80th minute? rof Just did some research, he started 11 games for 3 wins (With one of those wins coming from a late Willo goal after Kewell was subbed off), hardly successful if you ask me. Wow...pretty blown away by the criticism of Kewell, to be honest. He came in, played for peanuts, was the obvious/only choice for captain (really, with the exodus after 2012/13, who else was there?) and had a pretty clear disadvantage (as did the team) in that he barely shared the park with Engelaar (invariably, if Harry was in, Orlando was out and vice versa). I have very fond memories of the Sydney FC game in January, where Engelaar was sent off and Kewell somehow controlled the airways for the rest of the game, getting his head on countless balls in the centre of the ground. I have a mate that worked for Victory when Kewell was there who thought that he carried himself like an absolute tosser during his stint there. And it's obviously tough from an outsider's perspective, but I thought his engagement with fans after the games he played for Heart was as good as could have been expected.1 point

How good was mooys sliding interception pass outside our penalty box which almost resulted in him almost getting on the end of chip and scoring. He was everywhere and was difficult to choose duff over him as player of match.1 point

I made the trip up, had a great weekend but paying for it now. not a bad game, probably should have been 2-0 up at the half and could have came home with 3 points. IMO Archibald looked lost a bit and i think it was his fault we copped the goal, although i think Redders probably could have done better as well... if he can get his hand to it, it shouldn't be going in. Duff man is going to lead the lead in assist's by a mile. MOTM Duffman, Mooy a close second.1 point

Saw him in that friendly @epping during pre season. Was very disappointed. Performance at a higher level was much better. If can continue to improve should be a handy match day squad player with the occasional start.1 point

Has hatchet jobs in midfield saved countless counter attacks from turning into goal scoring situations. I know that Shroj got a lot of shit thrown his way, but i liked him as a player, as he did the unseen hard work. He was never a box to box run all day midfielder, but he did the dirty work that was required, to keep some stability in the middle of the park, not flashy, not spectacular, but did what was necessary1 point

This is great! At last we are talking about whether a player should keep their spot knowing that there are others hungry to replace him that are as good or even better. For me I thought that he did well and whether he deserves to keep his spot depends upon who may replace him and whether the game plan changes.1 point

Aren't we being a little rigid in categorization here? Striker/winger - they're forwards, and forwards are there to score goals. One-on-ones are not as easy to convert as many people think, depending on the relative positions of the players, goal and the ball, and the pace and direction of the ball etc., but in most cases any professional footballer, forward or not, should at the very least get the ball on the target. Mate put his shot about 2m wide of the post, and that's not the first time he's done it. You only have to look at our forwards and their shooting practice in the warm-up to see that far too often we are not on target.1 point
