  3. A bit annoying this result after being 1-0 up with 30 minutes to go, but the result is pretty decent given that we were playing the league leaders, who going into the match had only lost 1 game in 11, and just smashed Central Coast 4-1 last round. The performance was also pretty strong. We had 11 shots to 6, and largely played the game in Perth's half having 52% possession and 60% territory. Was also pretty concerned going into the game, and thought the disruption to our defence, with Hoffman dropping out of the team less than 24hrs before kickoff, could unsettle things. But Wielaert came in and put in a respectable performance, making use of his passing skill and his skill on the ball. I think the slightly changed defence did as well as it did because Chapman has truly stabilised the defence. I'm starting to become convinced that he's the main factor explaining our defensive turnaround. He has a wonderful defensive presence, and is comfortable dribbling the ball into the middle third. Mooy continues to dazzle. His shooting has been solid this season IMO, and it's been bad luck as much as anything else that has prevented him from scoring more goals. Today his finishing was good again, and he took his goal very well. The concern with playing young players is that they are generally inconsistent, oscillating between impressive games and flat and weak games. But Melling is showing his qualities every game, in particular him playing and defending with fantastic energy. I thought Kisnorbo had a fairly off game. He completely lost Djulbic on the set piece taken shortly after Perth scored, and I'm not sure but he might have been meant to mark Garcia for Perth's goal as well. Also other details seemed off with his game. Ideally experienced players, and especially the captain, should be consistent, so hopefully Kisnorbo can consistently deliver performances similar to his Melbourne derby performance. I fully agree with the consensus; I think we need more attacking talent in our front 3rd, and in particular we could really use a reliable no 9. None of our front 3 are threatening goal often enough for my liking. Credit to Williams for providing an assist, something he doesn't do often enough IMO (I'm pretty certain he didn't provide 1 assist last season, despite playing several games in the no 10 position). But we simply need more from the front 3, and I get the impression that our stellar midfield saves our forwards' blushes a bit. All up, will take the point. Something we can build on. Now we're heading into 2 winnable games with the team in good form, and have the likes of Duff and Koren returning to the team.

  4. Kisnorbo cost us 2 points today and almost cost us all 3. Shit marking and takes cunts on for no reason. Also tries to play miracle balls through midfield. Should be banned from passing to anyone but the fullback or a midfielder.

  5. So the only logical conclusion we can make from all this is that Kalmar just didn't want to live in Newcastle. Can't blame him.

  7. Koren should be coming on for Ramsay and being given a free role to roam inside from the left. Ramsay offers absolutely nothing in attack bar a few awkward step overs.

  8. Shoutout to Robbie weilart. Played out of position today, had a bit of trouble going forward because he has the speed of a three legged horse, but I thought he was really good today. desperately, desperately need a striker, just have no one to kick the ball to whenever we get the ball forward. If the point of the game was to pass the ball aimlessly around the edge of the box, we'd be league leaders. also think that kisnorbo had a really bad game, nearly cost us 2-3 goals tonight due to sloppy play or not marking his man properly, needs a kick up the ass for the next game.

  10. Ned Zelic has deadset lost the plot (if he knew where it was to begin with). 'Commentator' not 'special' commentator means you can follow the play once in a while instead of providing a furiously expressed opinion about Perth not getting a penalty and then subsequently Garcia being pulled up for dissent, and several incoherent points in between (individual brilliance).

  16. i told off kids tonight, tried to get them to join in and just looked at me and basically told me to fuck off, went over to them and told them, you have an active membership, you are expected to sing and especially being at the front, you will make the terrace look bad. they ended up just giving me lip and i walked away before i did something stupid. when we went to sit down for we love, i made sure to have a go at them for sitting down and joining in now and not before, told them to stand up if they dont want to participate. all these new members who think they have a right to sit there and do nothing just because they have an active membership, they need to be kicked to the sides and leave the main bay with the people who are committed to the cause.

  18. Yes playing Duff on the right is utter stupidity. He has no plan for how he will fit Koren in his team and so takes off Melling. The guy is a youth coach and thats it.

  19. He needs to use the next couple of games to get some match time into him and get accustomed to the league. He's traveling below 50% at the moment. The break may be coming at a bad time for him. What it does though is give him an idea if the league and time to really train with the team and get used to the system. Watched a lot of him and the guy is a top liner. Just needs to play and he will be a star in this league.

  20. I'm done with Ramsay. Finally done after this arvo. I can only laugh at him now. The players warm-up before the game where they gather in a circle, stutter-step a bit then turn around and present themselves for a pass or header. Good warm up. In the (approx) 83rd minute this arvo, a throw-in we had and I saw Rambo do this exact drill. I fuckin nearly died. The ball wasn't thrown to him, and forgive me for laying the shit on him, but jeez, I nearly split my sides. And for the other step-over, fancy bullshit he tried to pull off today, I'm over him, he just makes me laugh. I can't believe he played a full match today.

  21. Both were named by my source. Considering Tando's a bit of a journeyman n Redders is at his 2nd club, do you think we'd be looking for someone outside of the A-League?

  22. Ognenovski plays = best defence in the league. Ognenovski injured = conceed 3 goals. It's actually why I put my money on Adelaide, Sydney are fucked without OG Too bad he is probably done for good after that injury.

  23. I edited my post above to explain, basically playing with 3 in defence we will need to get rid of one of our midfielders rather than adding one, as you'd still need Hoffman and Garuccio out wide, albeit in a more attacking role, but you'd need to add another central defender at the expense of one of the midfielders.

  24. That's not how playing with 3 in defence works. A formation like this would never work and would never be tried. Playing with 3 in defence is usually more like playing with 5 in defence, or at the very least there would be 3 defenders playing centrally and 2 players from out wide playing quite defensively, whether they're wingbacks or wide midfielders. You can't play it with 1 central defender and 2 wide defenders (like your formation seems to suggest since Garuccio is there), hoping the DM fills the gap centrally. Teams would just play the ball through the centre and score easily. Or if you're suggesting those 3 defenders would all be fairly central, than the wide players are too far up and too attacking (Duff and Dugandzic)

  25. Funnily enough it seems to have started since addressing the things we have all been furiously pointing out as our weaknesses for years. Didn't need to be a Dutch to figure out what changes were needed. Didn't take most of us 3 seasons to work it out either.

  26. I guess if JVS isn't given any leeway with players missing then surely Arnold shouldn't either. A perfect opportunity for Arnold to showcase his managerial skills with some of his players missing from the squad.

  27. totally agree- he has been great in the last 3 games. Breaking up play, and winning headers in defence and getting the ball to feet and playing simple one/two touch stuff when we have the ball. Exactly what we need from him with Mooy/Koren in the side.

  29. we really lack forwards. Ramsay, Williams and Dugandzic clearly not up to it. It's evident when most of our goals this season have come from midfielders and even defenders. Hopefully Kennedy will help fix that area, and even Duff when he's playing regularly again. Defensively we look a lot better with chapman in the centre, but if we're to have a serious squad we need quality fullbacks on either side. Velaphi was decent today, didn't do much wrong. The goal was from Kisnorno leaving Garicia completely unmarked.

  30. Well I think 1-1 against the top side is a decent result we could have easily won and have apart from the goal Perth didn't create much. If we play like that against Newcastle and Central Coast we should win easily.

  34. Should be an entertaining game. Things I'll be looking out for: - Can the team continue to keep up the high intensity and high concentration levels for 90 minutes? - The team has won the past 2 games despite not scoring in the 1st half. I reckon if the team can go up in the first half, and perform as well as it has been over the past 2 matches, then the team has real good chances of getting a good result - Can the front 3 threaten goal more? - What difference does the Koren factor make? Perfect day for a game. Pumped up for some good football.

  44. Did you even read my post? What are you talking about a .............. "How are your examples of EPL players and A-League International Marquees at all relevant???" If you read it, my post focuses on players who are playing for clubs while their families reside in another area. Of interest Josh Kennedy was playing in Japan while his wife and kids were here in Australia. Players all over the world have to leave their family in one town/city/country to play elsewhere. Even Posh Spice didn't move to Paris. Is Newcastle a bad club? It must have been after it gave Mark Milligan his first taste, and of late Brilliante, Tagart, Goodwin .................. Bad Club?????? - Maybe a bad Post. You can always look back on a life that was - but you can never look back on a life that could-have been. To me, he will only be remembers for that one goal against Newcastle on a suburban football pitch. If he chose family over a revived a-league career then he will regret this decision for the rest of his life. Comparing David beckhams predicament to nick kalmar. Fmd
