Murfy1 Posted August 3, 2015 Report Share Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) I need Murfy's help on that - who's on a youth contract (we have to have 3) and who's in the "+3" category. Melling and Marino are in the "+3" category (that is, they are on youth-senior deals): A mobile, hard-working number 9 from South Australia, Marino joins the Club as an NYL Contracted Player. Each Hyundai A-League club is afforded three additional youth-aged players outside of its 23-player squad with Marino occupying one of those three spots alongside Jacob Melling, who joined in May.http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/article/announcement-retre-and-marino-sign-with-melbourne-city-fc/kmflgwex2scq1b5h772cvrtio So the club have effectively only used up 19 out of their 23 senior spots once Marino and Melling are accounted for. And I'm not 100% sure who are the 3 youth players the club has to have--that is 3 players under the age of 20--but Stefan Mauk and Steve Kuzmanovski are both under 20. If Marino, who's 19 can be counted, then we have signed the requisite 3 players under 20. If not, perhaps because he's on a youth senior deal, then I guess the club will sign 1 more young Australian player under the age of 20 before the season starts. If our back four find form early and begin to dominate which I'm quietly hoping for we may find ourselves in quite a situation with national call ups. For sure Franjic is more likely than not and also Hughes but Zullo would be hoping for national duty. And seeing that the FFA are morons they most likely miss crucial games. Hopefully by this stage a couple fringe/youth players will be ready. Clisby Germano and I spose Retre and Garuccio can do jobs if needed.
