Deviant
No, not the Ben Cousins type. lol. I'm looking at getting an Android tablet as opposed to a laptop - mainly for accessibility and less loading time (and porn). And given that the O/S is open source, there have been many different manufacturers using it and producing there own variant of hardware to compete on the market. I've done some research on what's out there. But nothing really jumps at me as 'The Best Tablet' on the market. Although there are some good deals out there on 'Near new' and 'hardly used' tablets. So I'd like other peoples opinions on what to look for and what they've heard. Please note, The IPad is not an option.
AyeCee
I'm generally against tablets as opposed to laptops, but I saw one in a lecture that had a fold out keyboard behind it. No eye deer what the name was, but looked pretty effective. Might act as a good inbetweener.
bazzatron
Asus Eee Pad Transformer:http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/ Kinda get the best of both worlds, and its upgradeable to Android 4.0!!! But for just a traditional Tablet, go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2: http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab2/10.1/spec.html?type=find
Deviant
the ones that jumped out at me were the sony S, galaxy tab and motorola xoom. Considering that it wont be used for work and shit, something thats affordable would be nice. There are heaps that are coming out, but the companies wanna try milk the releases with minor tech upgrades.

Duchess
Really you'd be much better off getting a laptop, along the lines of an asus zenbook. the best tablet going around atm is the asus transformer prime
danepak
So you can definitely watch free sports streams on a tablet, right? (Unlike the iPad, which doesn't support Flash.)
danepak
Also, there's a lot of cheap tablets out there. Some of them are under 100 bucks. Is there a good reason to stay away from them? Can you not run the same apps on these ones as on the more expensive ones?
Deviant
The prime is near a grand to buy. 800 is off ebay. the windows 7 tablet is like 1.5 grand. I dont want a laptop, to get the response time from a lap top that i would from a tablet, it'd cost me a fortune. Solid state drives and the like. The reason to stay away from the cheaper ones is that you don't get updates from the company. the cheaper ones run an old operating system. - so your right about the running of apps on the older firmwares - some might not work. the ones that i named before are very similar to each other. probably the only time I'd get a real cheap one is if it used the same parts as a brand name tablet. I'd flash the no name with the brand name and off i go. But then you void warranty. Edited April 2, 2012 by Deviate
tachycardia
I know nothing about this shit, but HTC make cool phones. They also make a tablet. Would it be any good? http://www.htc.com/www/tablets/htc-flyer/
Deviant
its good, but not as good as the samsung one. HTC were contracted by sony to make some of the first phones from the Xperia line.

Tesla
They are a bit too late to the party dont you think? Not really, the market has only really taken off recently. The thing which is really in Microsoft's favour is its the easiest to develop for. There are millions of .NET developers out there, and the same application can very easily operate on desktop, tablet, and mobile with very little differences in code. Similar things an be said about Apple but the cross platform is still easier with microsoft, and there are way more .NET developers than objective C or w/e crap apple uses.
