A good win when in the past City/Heart would have lost this game every time

Positives:

We won

We kept a clean sheet

The first half

Good individual goals

Daniel Arzani - provides drive, pace, movement and penetration. He just needs a goal

We actually looked much more solid and fluent playing 4-4-2

Negatives:

The second half, no intensity, happy to park the bus. The scoreline isn't indicative of our second half performance, it was more about Adelaide's collapse brought on by Gulum coming off out of defence for them

Atkinson - likely a fractured tibia and fibula with maybe some lateral ankle ligament damage. Ironically it's a similar injury to Bruno's although different cause

No Bort next week either - 5 cards

Marcin's second half invisible man act, how can he play so well in the first half and be so invisible in the second half?

Geez you're fucking miserable.

Enjoy it, we were absolutely outstanding tonight.

First 5 goal home win in club history.

Very stoked with performance, and glad to see some cracking goals.

Really feel for Atkinson; he'd made that RB spot his own.

Budzinski getting on the score sheet twice in the first half has me hoping he has finally adjusted to being at the club and being down under. Fingers crossed it's onwards and upwards from here.

Vidosics first and McCormacks goal were peaches, keeping in mind both were scored late and against an Adelaide side that had lost it's shape / became very raggedy by the end (each goal was after 85th min and when the game was in the bag)

IMO a true test of any player scoring goals like those two is doing so when the game is still in the balance.

By all means both goals were great and we've seen quality goals from McCormack in the past, more so the truer test will be to see if Vidosic can step up like he did tonight when the game is still quite tight.

Very happy all the same.

I'm not miserable, I'm happy. We can and should play better though, it was a far from complete performance.

Theres just about no such thing as a complete performance. This is Melbourne, not Barcelona.

In real terms its our biggest ever win, we had 3 different scorers and we were easy on the eye. Not much more you can ask for without believing in Utopia.

Yes, that's why there'll always be 'negatives', areas where we can improve. That doesn't mean that it wasn't a good performance from us. Imagine if Budzy could play like he did in the first half but for 90 minutes? Bort's yellow was unnecessary although maybe he's clearing the decks for the smurfs game. It's hard to see Atkinson's injury as anything but a negative and it would be good to see a complete 90-minute performance, we'll need it against Jets and the smurfs. Do you have a problem with any of those points?

There were more positives

Cmon Bela, how can you score 3 goals with no intensity...

They came after Gulum came off and the Adelaide defence totally lost their shape. Prior to that, we were playing in our own half and Adelaide was dictating the game. They didn't really threaten too much but given our propensity for losing games in this fashion, it's a very risky strategy for us.

The best moment for me was seeing Isais hack Arzani in frustration after Arzani made him look like a red traffic cone.

What a fkn performance.

All of the above posts a spot on, except for @belaguttman

From a tactical view point it was masterful.

Game sealed by bud in the first half and then the change by 'Wazza the great'. Switched to a deep defensive counter to absorb the attack after half time which would have been the only time Adelaide could have come back into the game. Made them press, they lost their shape and then BANG smashed them into oblivion.

Absolutely brilliant in planning and execution.

Couple of things stood out to me, firstly Bud's awesomeness, second Brattan's master-class as a deep DM with great direct passing, thirdly Azani smashing through defensive lines and lastly the complete domination in all areas of the pitch when we had the ball and when we didn't.

And the subs were brilliant, Mauk's pressure on the opposition was fantastic.

This is the best complete performance I have ever seen by our great club.

The whole managerial and player list should be proud.

Come on City!!!

Tremendous result! 5-0 win, and the team's biggest home win! With a scoreline like that any imperfections are just a footnote in history.

Some great football surrounding the goals as well. Budzinski with a solid brace to put the team ahead, Vidosic showing his class--both with service (like for Budzinski's 2nd goal) and his 2 strikes--and the allegedly injured/unfit and lacking in training McCormack stepping up with a screamer.

Arzani was seemingly the key source of excitement for the first part of the game. The team's first goal was created by his x-factor, and he seems to be developing more and more as a player every week. It's something great to watch. And Arzani completes a superb attack with McCormack, Vidosic, Arzani and Budzinski comprising the attack. They were all big leading lights in this game, and promise more together in future games.

I echo the praise of Brattan and Malik. they are undoubtedly developing into a stellar midfield partnership, which enables the team's attack especially the flourish. Also, I'd highlight Schenkeveld and Jakobsen pairing and in particular their distribution, with only 1 of Schenkeveld's 41 passes going astray (97% passing accuracy) and only 3 of Jakobsen's 52 passes going astray (94% passing accuracy, and he completed the most passes). Two central defenders only giving away the ball 4 times over a whole game is very impressive, and if one or two Adelaide runs were checked by our defence then it would have been a pretty much flawless game from them all. Bouzanis nonetheless swept up those few defensive oversights, so plenty of kudos for him and no worries in the end.

So that must be a big confidence-boosting win for all the players, everyone around the club, and I'd say the fans too. Big credit to Joyce too as well; the selections and the changes paid off handsomely in this game. That such big wins are possible with this team this season is cause enough to look forward to the remainder of the season (or at bare minimum silence doubting). And we still have Fornaroli to come back soon, imagine that!

Brilliant game. To dwell on a few minor blemishes would be churlish. Up there with the best of the derby wins. At last, a City side going in for the kill! Many fine individual performances, and overall a great team effort.

From the start of the second half until about 5 mins after Atkinson went down Adelaide were well on top but I would argue that a: youd expect Adelaide to do that given the first half and b: their dominance was probably a result of us taking the foot off the gas a bit.

Not to be a party pooper but Buds goals were both pretty rubbish :P

Second one was trash viewed in isolation but it was everything he hasn't offered to this point. He was:

1. In the right position; and

2.  put in the effort to follow up on his initial fuck up.

For me it was a good sign of an attitude shift, went a bit off in the second but good showing from him.

Agree with all of that, just would have been nice to have the first not a deflection and the second starting off with a mis-kick. Still think we are better off putting Ross as marquee and moving him under the cap which someone said on the podcast.

I felt the same last night but on reflection disagree.

His first was a good strike from outside the box from a good bit of work from Arzani. Obviously the deflection gave the keeper no chance but still it was a well struck ball in a crowded area. I wouldn't rate it as rubbish.

His second was initially a miss timed volley. Had he hit that sweetly it would have been a cracker but his follow up to scramble over showed not only intelligence but a bit of mongrel.

Not great goals but not rubbish either.

whilst I thought the goals were average (at best) - the first Bud goal was due to a deflection - BUT WITHOUT SHOOTING WOULD NEVER HAVE GONE IN!

Seemingly, this woke the team up that we dont have to pass it around and try to find the ultimate through ball, or walk the thing into the old onion bag.

We have striking talent - striking the ball talent that would be the envy of the league. Ross, Dario, Budz - get in or around the area and dont be scared to shoot.

We have been so gun-shy this season. This game hopefully opened our eyes a little. It aint Buffon in goal in this league!

So read a rumor some of the CFG big dogs were in town? Can anyone confirm?

There were some corporate looking fellows who made the big screen on a few occasions. Seemed to be getting fine treatment, and those of us who saw it speculated it was someone from the City Group. Not a bad game to attend live for them, but no doubt they are continually watching their interests from wherever they may be in the world.

Who knows.... maybe they even monitor this forum @strider

Can't believe people are calling goals "rubbish." The first was a good strike on target - deflections are part of the game in a crowded penalty area.

Sure he missed the first attempt at the second goal, but he had the quick reaction to thump home the loose ball.

It's actually 1 person.  Mr anti-Joyce but a goal is a goal is a goal. Nothing to sniff at.

That was by far our most balanced team we have fielded this season. Wasn't over stacked with defenders unlike earlier in the season, or lacking creativity in midfield and finally a much stronger front 3rd with Arzani taking over Kamaus spot.

Definitely look like a top 2 contender now, bring on Newcastle!

Ivan Campo, ex-Real Madrid player was a guest of CFG and appeared on the screen. He was in town to watch the tennis and must have taken up the City ticket offer:)

It’s not just the shot either. You have to get yourself in the right place to get the ball. The only people who think that’s easy have never played upfront.

That first one may have gone in without the deflection- on target and hit hard. The second yeah you’ve summed it up nicely
