It should be a saucy fixture. Whichever team makes the least defensive mistakes will win the game, so it's a bit of a lottery really. CCM play well but make regular defensive mistakes, we tend to play less well with the ball but are a bit better at controlling space except when we make major defensive blunders

Hows your feels on the Jako, Bort and BigBoy back 3? I can see a return to the start of season defensive solidity, but also concerned about the counter attacking play as seen in recent games. If anyone with a decent boot breaks our line, its on.Ā

Props for word play too.

Our formation should depend on tactics and the opponent's formation. CCM tend to play 4-3-3 so it matches their forward line but those formations are nominal, it preally depends on player movement and the instructions each has been given by the coach

I'd personally prefer to see 4-3-3. We played 3 at the back against Perth because it matches well with their front two (Keogh and Taggart). Problem with that formation is you have to decide whether the wing backs are going to be defensive or attacking. Teams like CCM that play fast transition force you into eitherĀ 5 at the back or 3 (the goal of having both depending who hasĀ possession isĀ a myth in my opinion). Ā

Start against CCM as a 4-3-3 and then if we need to be more attacking shift to 3 at the back.

Metcalfe to get a run this week (hopefully).

CCM have scored one goal in their last 6 matches.

We have drawn only one game all season. My guess for this game would be a dispointing 1-0 loss, or a 0-3 solid win.

Scorers:

-McCormack

-Arzani

-Vidosic (hes scored 4 and assited 2 for the Nix already)

The clash

Melbourne City wrap up the busiest week of their season on Sunday as they face Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.

The match is Cityā€™s third in eight days and after picking up wins against Wellington and Perth, Warren Joyceā€™s side have the chance to make it a vital three wins in eight days, keeping in touch with Newcastle in second place.

The story of the week has been the combination of Ross McCormack and Daniel Arzani as the duo combined for all of Cityā€™s goals against Perth and Wellington. The forwards will be out to run amok again on Sunday afternoon.

It wonā€™t be easy for City as they take on a Mariners side looking to bounce back from an F3 Derby loss. Paul Okonā€™s side were in the contest until the final ten minutes of the match where they were over-run by the rampant Jets.

Despite the performance, the Mariners are winless in their last six matches with their last win coming against Perth Glory in Round 9. Since then, Central Coast have only scored once and their playing stocks have been ravaged by suspension, injury and international duty.

Six regulars will be missing for the Mariners including Andrew Hoole, Connor Pain and Daniel De Silva which will play into Cityā€™s hands.

Team News

Itā€™s a relatively unchanged side for Tuesday nightā€™s clash with Perth with City adding two youngsters to the selection mix. See our full team news.

Last time they met

City hosted the Mariners in Round 10 as a dominant first half from the hosts saw Ben Kennedy hold his clean sheet heading into the break. Ross McCormack was on hand to find the winner after 59 minutes as he netted his first goal from open play as City held on for the 1-0 result

What was said

Melbourne City Head Coach Warren Joyce

"I know they have goals in their team. They mayĀ have a couple of injuries but they have some qualityĀ players who are capable of scoringĀ goals out of nothing so they are not a team to be taken lightly."

Central Coast Mariners youngster Lachlan Wales

ā€œItā€™s obviously tough when you lose experienced players but itā€™s not an excuse,ā€ Wales said. ā€œWe have to go out there on Sunday against Melbourne City, we have to win the game and the injuries will be no excuse.

ā€œIā€™ll continue to back my ability. If Paolo decides to give me the start, I will take that opportunity with both hands,ā€ Wales said.

Where and when

Melbourne City face the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday at Central Coast Stadium, kick-off 5pm. City return home to AAMI Park next Sunday to face Adelaide in our final double header of the season. W-League kick-off 4.30pm while A-League kicks off at 7pm.

3 matches under 10 days. Hopefully Joyce uses the bench wisely and doesnt stress players out too much like Ross and Brattan as they are always starting and hard workers. Should start Budinski as well and have kilkenny bench at least

This is probably the one area I think Joyce has an advantage over all other Aleague coaches. He is very used to 3 games in a week. He will know who can handle the workloadĀ

We'll find out whether we have enough bottle.

Will we squeeze a win out of this game? 3 points wouldĀ allow us to Ketchup to Newcastle. Hopefully Heinz Sight will allow Wazza to make necessary choices to get us the win.

Good to see Melling on the pitch for CCM. Has been ages since I have seen him play. Hope to see him 'give a good account of himself'.Ā

IMO loss for us means we can say tartar to top two while a loss for the Mariners means they can say tartar to finals: very saucy indeed šŸ¤”šŸ‘

Will the goals come Thick and Fast?

Maybe goalsĀ will, maybe they won't; either way has the making of a very sweet and sour outcome
