Valkanis:

"There will be some changes made, I haven’t decided,” he said. “In my head I have two starting XI’s and we’ll work through the next training sessions and I’ll confirm before the game which way we go. “It’s about finding the right balance for what we want for this game and the right personnel to balance it. We’ve spoken about it and discussed two different scenarios and we’ll check that out at training. “It gives us a lot more options than last week, with the availability of players. A lot more options.”

About f****** time that the coaching team started to think instead of blindly following a recipe.

Refreshing to hear that he is not sure. With players available and the form of players from last week/s it's pretty obvious that there are very few certainties.

So whoever he goes with and whatever the set up is will be interesting. All I hope that they have it worked out well before KO and stick with it.

You put way too much stock into public soundbites, for all you know they have no intention of making any changes now but did two weeks ago or vice versa. A sentence in a press conference means very little, it's all PR spin.

City sinners return to bolster line-up in crucial clash with Wellington

It will be all change for Melbourne City again this weekend as coach Michael Valkanis gets access to six of the seven sinners who were suspended from the club's 2-2 draw with Brisbane Roar last week.

City's collection of youngsters and squad and fringe players performed in terrific style on that occasion to come back from a two-goal half-time deficit but it is unlikely that Valkanis will retain too many of the newcomers in the starting line-up.

Bruno Fornaroli, Fernando Brandan, Luke Brattan, Tim Cahill, Osama Malik and Manny Muscat – who could be facing his old club, Wellington Phoenix – are back in contention for the match across the Tasman on Saturday afternoon. Only goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, who is suspended for a further four games, is absent from the group.

This is a must-win game for City, who are clinging on to fourth spot just ahead of Perth Glory on goal difference, two points behind Brisbane and nine behind Melbourne Victory.

City has only won twice since their FFA Cup triumph over Sydney on November 30, but Valkanis, who took over at the end of December, says the big-name players have not taken things for granted.

"The team is not resting on their laurels," Valkanis said. "As a team we are moving steadily. People analyse the result but not the performance.

"This is a massive game for us [but] I can't control how people think. Supporters and the media look at the result, we have to look at things a little bit deeper."

Valkanis remains confident City are on track to kick start their season in the final third of the campaign and make a mark in the play-offs.

"We are lucky we are playing in a country where there is finals football," he said.

"I thought the performance was good [against Brisbane]. We played a bit differently and executed the game plan very well. .

"It's something we have been working on. We are preparing to have a bit of flexibility in finals."

City women's triumph in the W-League grand final was a reminder to the men how to come back from adversity. They won the final after finishing only fourth and winning twice, including in the grand final, on the road.

"The W-League team is an inspiration to the men. The women did a tremendous job," says Valkanis, noting that their efforts were not lost on his players.

City Sinners. Geez go fuck your self Lynch you cunt. For some reason he's had it in for our club for a while now. Could tell press conferences between him and JVS were always tense and now it's carrying over with Valkanis at times.

Didn't we help raise money for his sick son?

As a supporter I take exception to being ticked off for just looking at the result.  No, I watch the performance and too many have been bloody awful.  Last weekend was an exception.  Bloody well work out why.  It isn't difficult.

It probably has somethibg to do with not getting the inside scoop from the club anymore with CFGs media ban.

As supporters who've put $7000+ into the club since Day 0 MrsJW and I would really like to be enlightened as to what deeper things we should be looking for than actual results.

Lastly that bloke sitting next to you obviously has got no idea and listening to him must be really annoying.

Well to be honest I've suspected for sometime he's not the full quid. I've got strong evidence too, The bloke wastes his spare time and cash to go to City games.

I don't know much about athlete preparation. But the team has spent today looking at the sights around Wellington, going to the Lord of The Rings exhibit etc.

Preparation always depends on the result.

But that sort of shit can never end well.

I'm all for the team being focused on the task-at-hand. But how many salary-earners are on the clock 24 hours?

Part of being a professional athlete is recovery and managing their bodies. I can't imagine some team bonding is a bad thing. At the very least it shows they don't hate each other.

Perhaps they should be doing wind sprints and time trials the morning of the game?

Malik and Tongyik together is a worry, hopefully they'll be able to hear Tommys instructions on positioning all game.

Glad to see Brandan in though. Blokes a match winner

We could easily change the game with Colazo and Cahill coming on....  Assuming they'll come on before the 80th minute.

Hopefully they won't be needed to change the game!
