Wasn't Wazza brought in to also nurture our youth? Arzani, Genreau, Crowley have barely had a look in and has Tongyik falling off the face of the earth? Can't even remember hearing about him this season.

It's a myth dude, our starting lineup is almost as old as Brisbanes

Joyce the winner in City's player power drama

The sacking of his assistant Michael Valkanis, and raps over the knuckles for a dissident cabal of players has snuffed out the threat of rebellion in the ranks and given the Englishman, personally hand-picked by Marwood for the job, a clean slate from which to shape his own destiny.

Joyce, who was facing upheavals on several fronts, had a clash of ideologies with Valkanis, who struggled to reconcile missing out on the gig after his caretaker role at the back end of last season.

The chemistry between the pair was non-existent and the mild-mannered Marwood showed his ruthless streak by showing him the door.

It's now down to former Manchester United reserves boss Joyce to repay the backing of his CFG chiefs and deliver where his predecessors largely failed at the lavishly funded club.

While Marwood's six-day visit was initially meant to be routine in nature, it coincided in snuffing out spot fires whipped up by a disaffected Tim Cahill over his lack of game time under Joyce.

Ditto midfielder Neil Kilkenny, out-of-favour goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis and, to a lesser degree, midfielder Luke Brattan.

Not to mention Aston Villa loan striker Ross McCormack, whose discipline and attitude have been called into question, just as was the case at Villa Park.

He was stood down for the recent 3-1 loss at Brisbane Roar after turning up late for training and was reminded in no uncertain terms by Marwood that playing in the A-League is serious business, and requires the requisite professionalism.

It's understood that the Scotland international has heeded the message, and any manifestation of player power has been roundly quashed.

All have been brought into line, first and foremost Cahill, with Marwood taking a particularly dim view of his public pronouncements of dissatisfaction at being used sparingly by choice this season.

The CFG credo is to keep such matters in-house, and Cahill's stance - with the remainder of the season to run on his playing contract - may have backfired.

Sources say Cahill, in something of an about-face, called a team meeting last week, during Marwood's visit, urging unity and support for Joyce.

With the backing he's received from the CFG, Joyce now has no impediments - or ready-made excuses - as he seeks to lift the club from a mini slump which has seen them drop to third on the A-League after picking up just one point from a possible 12 over the last four games.

Saturday's visit to second-placed Newcastle Jets will be a litmus test for Joyce and his uncompromising leadership style, as he seeks provide the platform for his team to recapture their form of the early rounds

The time for all the bullshit is over. This is Round 9 and Sydney are already way out in front. If we're going to get it together this season, the time to do it is right now. No more lame excuses such as "dominating but individual errors cost us the game." If we don't make a decent showing from now on it will be just another wasted season.

Draw against Newcastle the absolute minimum acceptable.

Good win but not many credits could be given as he missed formation and tactical approach.  He's constant barking and tutoring shows that his experience is with youh teams. He's really disruptive force. More experience professionals are not happy with that. He will need to get rid of all of them to keep ihe peace in the sheds. If we lost yesterday there would be some explosive scenes behind the door.  By placing the players completely out of position he won't gain respect.

Wasn't it the main issue with JVS and Valkanis they were too quiet? Arnie looked grumpy and yelled on his players today when Sydney was up 4:0.

He was making sure they didn't get complacent, he kept admonising his team and coaching them not because they needed it, but to keep them motivated.

Not according to me. Couldn’t have given a rats.

People pay way too much crediance to that stuff. Any clown can jump around and yell like an idiot.

Call me naive but I thought the main issue with JVS and Valkanis was that they lost too many games.

we played well in patches there, yet again problems with finishing

parked the bus too early, almost got found out

a win is a win, is a win

I don't think we parked the bus purposefully. It sometimes happens when one team is pressuring for possession and goals and the other doesn't want to concede. You get sucked into the moment.

Wazza's still working out the team and his players, and he has a few more answers after last night.  Malik at right back seemed to go alright, and Atkinson looks like he could fight for a spot.  Things are continuing to come together nicely.  My only criticism was that he did not go to his bench for some fresh legs towards the end.  I thought Bud or Arzani could have come on for 10 -15 minutes to give Atkinson a rest, as he was stuffed after about 70min.

Very much looking forward to how he approaches Sydney.  We need to get a result against them to have any chance of catching them up.

It's a good point re the subs. I noticed towards the end when we looked to waste time somewhat that Joyce was screaming at them to get on with it. I wonder if his theory is to get on with it in the interests of having the mentality that we are always the better side and dont need to give the opponent that mental edge.

Was sitting where the subs were warming up and they were told with about 10 to go that they wouldn't be getting on at all. Ruon and Budders were definitely sounded surprised and disappointed about it. Ruon was trying to encourage Atkinson to stay on the ground.

I get that some people will think its silly because it unorthodox, but i actually find it refreshing to have a coach react to the game, not just doing what everyone else does for the sake of it.
