Results at youth level actually means very little. Success should be measured in the number of graduates to senior level

i have no problem with them losing, and yes the results mean nothing. problem with this squad is that graduating from the youth to A league team, with the depth and roster and $$, is virtually impossible. most players if they have not made it a pro youth contract by 18 should leave for OS opportunity or another A league team. I still want them to try to win the games they play whether it is youth or NPL.

Got to the Adelaide game, boys were unlucky not to come away with a win. Adelaide playing long balls entire game, refs were shocking. Pala having a word with them at the end of match. Genreau unlucky with a header (hit the crossbar from a corner cross), Metcalfe passed a great ball through to Crowley and he scored but was off side, Gallo cut back to Metcalfe in front of goal, but Metcalfe unlucky with his shot. Was a good game to watch, hopefully the lads can step up against Brisbane in their match next week. Genreau and Metcalfe great duo in the midfield, worked well together. Man of match IMO, Metcalfe, unlucky to score at the end, but played like a mother the whole game.

it is disappointing when a good performance doesn't get the win. From what i can see the roar beat victory NYL so have leapt us on the table. IIRC Metcalfe played well in the last few games so it is just a matter of time before he gets some A league time i reckon. Genreau has been on the bench a couple of times also. With that sort of quality City NYL should go close to winning the comp but they have to get the back of the net. where was Arzani? he was not in a league or in the NYL squad.

Not sure where Arzani has been last few games. Not being mentioned in the A League squad or NYL. Maybe injured?? Wouldve been good in the midfield with Genreau and Metcalfe. Wong was missing also. Metcalfe's a great player, but he's a couple of years off A League level. Definite player to watch for the future though. Hopefully the lads can step up and smash Brisbane next game. :D

Brisbane's Foxtel National Youth League side will play Melbourne City Youth on Thursday, 22 December in a re-scheduled Round 3 contest that was abandoned due to bad weather in early December. Kick-off: 7pm (QLD Time) Venue: A.J Kelly Park, Kippa Ring Who: Brisbane Roar Youth v Melbourne City Youth When: Thursday, 22 December 2016 .

The youth team need to win this to go back to top of ladder. good luck to them.

Great to see the lads jump back to the top of the table. What a goal from Portelli on his debut! Hopefully the boys can keep it up. Only 3 games to go, would be awesome to see them make the finals.

Arzani must be just playing youth league now does anyone know? I see Genreau has been added to the first team squad list again tonight against Perth and no sign of Arzani.

You haven't been around very long, have you? Seasoned campaigners like the rest of us know that this is a standard JvS thing - sign some young player to the seniors and then play someone from the youth squad instead "because he deserves a chance" or some such bullshit. Happens every season. Genreau is his latest "fad" youth player. Just one of the reasons why we can never win the League under JvS.

I'm all for the youth getting a chance, but I don't think that was the right game to throw Genreau in. Like I said in a previous post I thought JVS would throw him in against the Jets or CCM when we are 3 or 4 nil up, not Perth when its 3-3!!! Yes Genreau nearly scored a goal, but he also nearly cost us a goal.

Boys unlucky yesterday against Brisbane. Brisbane played with the same team they started with in round 1. City's team changes every week. Some young boys thrown in yesterday, in a must win top of the table clash??!!?!  Why?? One kid taking about 10 touches every time he got the ball. Brisbane moved the ball fast, played together as a team. Obviously City don't care about winning the NYL. Don't know why Genreau and Arzani had to be left out, its only 8 games then they could've been put into A League when NYL was all over. We could've won this comp, seems like its all over now. Why Sylaidos was put on the left wing when he clearly has no left foot doesn't make sense. Not one single cut back or cross!! Brisbane scored 3 of their goals from quality crosses. Disappointing!

Saw the first half of the game Monday, thought we really struggled to play outta the back. Mostly resorted to playing very direct and our front + 1 from midfield trying to dribble past their immediate opponent. Goal in the first half came from one of our goal kicks; ball played short up the middle, turned over and easy finish. Bad bad play, which is negative in itself but is a slight positive in that Brisbane couldn't break us down either

It was 1-0 up until the second goal came in the 74th minute, 3rd goal in the 85th minute and the 4th goal in the 90th minute - when all the inexperienced juniors were put into the game. Why Pala changed the team I don't know. No wonder Metcalfe cracked the shits and booted the ball out (resulting in a red card), I felt his frustration!

Tend to agree with both of you Re this game. Roar were pressing very hard but outr backs needed to be more thorough in receiving and distributing. A few kick out s from the keeper could have eased the pressure on occasion. Geez i mean Bouzanis and co in the A league need to make smarter choices when opting for playing out or clearance so i am OK with what the keeper did overall. where we were really weak was down the flanks. players not crossing the ball and putting pressure on the defence. The wingers were not able to beat there opponent convincingly. could have taken the ball toward the line and cut it or at least cross it

I understand that, yes its about development and experience, which is great, but none of the other NYL teams seem to play young ones. Why?? Because they want to win!! If you happened to see the Brisbane v City game last week it was quite apparent they are not ready for this level just yet. THREE goals came when the younger boys were put on the field. Maybe another season of NPL would get them ready for NYL ?? Just my opinion

well a very interesting game coming up for the NYL. As it turns out, brisbane and adelaide had a draw. that means if city win today away to perth then we will be on 15 points. with one game in hand. max points adelaide can get is 13. Brisbane are done at 14, perth will be and victory no where. It between us and Perth now. c'mon lads. Is that too enthusiastic- remember from about 17 onwards the NC stresses a winning mentality. BTW i think City youth play a good style compared to perths long ball strategy (which looks more like Englands League 2).

If i am right,  we win today and they will be in the Grand final. Does any body know where the final is held. It was in sydney last year. How do FFA determine where it is played?

The details of the Foxtel National Youth League Grand Final have been confirmed as Melbourne City prepare to take on either the Central Coast Mariners or Sydney FC on Saturday 28 January 2016.

City confirmed their spot in the 2017 Grand Final last week as a 1-0 win over Perth Glory saw Joe Palatsides’ side qualify for the match with one regular season match remaining.

City's opponents will be decided in the final round of the regular season as Central Coast and Sydney FC go head to head in Conference B this weekend to decide who will join City at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday 28 January.

Melbourne City NYL Head Coach Joe Palatsides says his side will be ready for the chance to win the Club’s second piece of youth silverware.

“The boys have put a lot of effort into this season and they deserve to be in the position they are in,” Palatsides said.

“It's a great achievement to reach the final and we're really looking forward to the occasion."

The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 505. Click here for ticket details.

Central Coast Stadium, Gosford
Kick-Off 2pm AEDT (gates open 1.45pm)

WTF!!!!... why cant the sydney team or CCM travel down here for once. Our team gets no supporters or home advantage with this arrangement. If it is the mariners its basically a home GF and if its sydney they travel an hour up the road to gosford. where as our lads have to 1:40 flight plus bullshit transport to and from airport and waiting etc. Then on a bus from Sydney. which would take 1:30 min. This is bullshit. Last years GF was at the same venue FFS. BTW if we win against victards we will finish on 18 points. The highest of any club in any conference. yet that gets you nothing. effing crap.

Meh we got the FFA Cup final, so we can't really complain.

agree BT, plus will add that our senior team are actually away to Newcastle that weekend (interestingly being played at Coffs Harbour) so from a practicality perspective having CCM host makes more sense since they have a home game against Perth that day to help form a double header.

Yep I'll be there Citymad. You going? I reckon the boys can take Sydney.

NYL @ home CB Smith against Victory. 750 Sun 22. Double header with W league. get down to watch the Derby NYL style. good hit out before the youth take on the winner of CCM and Syd.

You reckon Pala will throw the youngsters in tonight?? City have already won the conference so no point risking injuries for the GF.

Great to see the boys claw back last night from 3-0 down. Well done lads!! :D Played good football all night. Not like Victory who have to cheat to try and win. Grubs took out 2 of our players on purpose. Metcalfe first taken out by victards captain mcglip with a studs up chop to the ankle, then Zac Bates same kid mcgilp with yet another studs up chop to the ankle and only one yellow card?!?!?! Seriously think the refs were being paid by muscat. Metcalfe hopefully ok for grand final next week. Missed him in the midfield last night. Bates I hear may have a broken ankle. Well done victory hope youre happy you pack of dirty cheats. Good to see you way down at the bottom of the foxtel youth league ladder. Even FFA COE beat you!! :tooth:

Quote from Victards coach Gareth Naven " "Our boys were really committed. They're definitely getting better, stronger, quicker and fitter and we're starting to narrow the gap between ourselves and City, our ambition is to overtake them. That's what we want to try and achieve." :tooth::tooth::tooth: Good luck with that mission fwit. Maybe learn to play the actual game rather than teach your players to break limbs, theres a tip for ya. He does know that our team last night was fielded by a few younger players that havent played NYL before doesnt he?? Our regular team would have smashed them easily.

Ahmed should be on a contract, why they didnt give him one of those scholarship contracts is beyond me. Gave one to Crowley and Cavallo from OTHER clubs. Doesnt make sense. Hes  a goal scoring machine.

Bring on the GF!!!!!!!!! GO YOU CITY BOYS!!!!!!!!!

Yea tomi saw the game yesterday also. city's entire defensive backline was different almost. Some young guys in there. most of the goals came from errors in the fisrt half so its not like they just played all over city. two players got taken out by the same player you mentioned. bates looked like he was worse for wear and could not even walk off. Muscats young pups learning the tricks of the trade. so as it stands they actually didnt beat us. Cool.

Hope tyhey take out the GF.
