welll here's what your waiting for.

if you got your phone with no carrier branding. outright, from a store thats not a phone shop. ie. Harvey norman, Jbhi fi, or the like... then all you'll be waiting for is the manufacturer of the phone to bring out the update. (samsung, nokia, htc, etc.)

whereas if your in my situation, my phone is a telstra phone. I have to wait for telstra to recieve the update from the manufacturers... then telstra put there apps on the phone and test.... then when they deem it to be good enough for release, then they'll release to the public.

similar if you have gotten the phone from a phone shop... buying it outright (lets say from an optus shop, for instance) and unlocking it, will still mean you need to wait for optus to release there update because it's still branded with optus 'bloatware'.

You can re-flash the phone to the stock manufacturers firmware which will get rid of all branding and 'bloatware' and you'll be able to get the updates as soon as the manufacturer releases them.

But you void warranty.

Phones nowadays have a 'counter' inbuilt to the phone that will count down (normally from 5) to 0 for every time you tamper with the loader. This counter is monitored by the service centre and logged when/if you send your phone in for a service.

So if they plug your phone in and find that the counter is on 2 or 3 and its never been in for a service. they will send the phone back to you with a nice letter saying your on your own.

I have a backup of the original vodafone rom for my phone and my research indicated at the time I would just need to reinstall that if I ever needed to use the warranty. Fwiw there were people who claimed to have used the warranty service even with custom rom and didnt have any problems butit was flashed with the original rom again.

"Beats is building its own smartphone, TV and iTunes-killer to compete directly with Apple"

Beats-Smartphone-TV.jpg

Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre’s company has really taken off since launching the original Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. BGR has learned that while music is still at the core of Beats, the company is about to make some aggressive expansions into categories currently dominated by consumer electronics giants. First off, after HTC(2498) invested $300 million in Beats — which was a terrible idea — and then sold back half its stake — which was a less terrible idea — Beats is ready to make its own smartphone.

We have learned from a trusted source that while HTC will manufacture the handset, there will be no HTC branding on this device and it will run Android with a custom UI designed exclusively for Beats smartphones. This “will be a truly Beats phone,” our source said.

A smartphone is just the beginning, however. Beats is also apparently set on launching a TV, though the company understands the low margins are in the TV market and will be partnering with a manufacturer likeSamsung (005930) to introduce a “TV with Beats connect.” The purpose, we’re told, is to make a push to create an Apple-like experience that extends from a phone to a TV to a tablet to a laptop, much in the same way Apple(AAPL) does with Apple TV, AirPlay and iTunes.

Here is where this gets incredibly interesting, though. In addition to a smartphone and a TV set, our source has informed us that Beats is creating an iTunes-like service code-named Daisy, and it will also feature a subscription-based model for music streaming.

Beats By Dr. Dre did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Samsung and HTC also declined to comment.

Beats wants to own the entire experience, and you can bet that the company won’t have an issue getting record labels on board. The concept is to utilize low-power technology like a WiGig chip to be able to share all of your content on all of your Beats devices with each other, without additional boxes or components.

We’ll have more on Beats’s internal plans in the coming days.

kinda hard to do Mr Telstra man. That god awful program you talk about is made for a specific phone, manufactured by the same company. And in saying that, the only way you'll get something similar (and better) is to get a program manufactured by the same phone provider. Eg: Samsung galaxy (mobile phone) and Samsung Kies (program).

*hint hint* get a samsung galaxy :D

Windows phone is a sleeping giant, the one big limitation for any less used OS is a lack of apps, but the fact of the matter is windows phone will be the easiest for developers to develop for, because C# is the most used programming language in the world and everyone has a windows computer, compared to Apple where you need a mac and to know Objective C (which was a completely obscure programming language till iphone took off).

Just installed Windows 8 on a laptop here at work. Its fucking shit! M$ just Vista'd themselves again. Idiots.

No one cares bazzatron, CEOs across the world are gonna be like yes lets buy 5,000 new PCs with the latest windows and microsoft office, then microsoft use that money to fund their bing and mobile phone marketing.

And fwiw already knew windows 8 would be shit for desktop/laptop, wouldnt upgrade those from 7, point of windows 8 is its meant to be good for touch screen computers.

You dont have to buy a new PC or Laptop with Windows 8 on it. You will be hard pressed to find a manufacturer that wont be giving the option of Windows 7 installed with Window 8 install DVD included. This is how it will be for the next 2 years at least, until a) M$ fix Win8 so that it is more workplace friendly or B) They learn the Vista lesson....again, and release something suitable.

So many computer retailers are clearing out windows 7 laptops on the cheap, and advertising the fuck out of the "if you buy this windows 7 laptop now you can upgrade to windows 8 for $15 (or whatever it is) when windows 8 comes out". So pretty sure it will be quite hard to get a laptop without windows 8 already installed, for personal users that is, once its out.

I guess you are right about business bazzatron, whoever is in charge of the IT stuff isnt going to recommend windows 8. Still doesnt really change anything, Microsoft will just sell more windows 7, while still getting windows 8 sales from personal users / idiots / touchscreen devices. At the end of the day w7 is a good OS and doesnt really have any competition as the OS of choice in the business world, no one is going to switch to mac or linux, unless they are an IT related company.

I hate these all-in-one PCs they have now, absolutely rubbish IMO, either get a real desktop or get a tablet if you want a touchscreen, but anyway, they are becoming more popular and windows 8 is made for that sort of stuff.
