Dylan
I would have thought the club would have made a sky blue strip for the cup given their history, since most other clubs are making an alternate strip. illeatyourheart
You'd imagine they would if they could. Heart_fan
What kind of line up will be played in this match? With so many injuries, we managed to have a makeshift squad for the Manchester City match but there will still be some gaps this time around too.Lets hope some youth players get a go again too. Shahanga
Well I hope JVS is thinking "let's win this game" first and foremost. More worried about that than whether any of the youth squad gets a run. As I see it with a limited pre-season to date, we are at our most vulnerable right now.

Triallists and others can't be used.So it looks like a reasonable defence but a bit makeshift up front. Judging from what I've seen and heard so far the following will feature somehow:Tando, Hughes, Chapman, Kisnorbo, Clisby, Retre, Paartalu, Mauk, Koren, Novillo, Dekker. Possibles for limited time are Mooy and Franjic.Bench will come from the NPL squad. This match comes perhaps a few weeks too early for those A-League clubs trying to re-build their squads. IMO City will want to win this, but won't take risks with individual players.

jw1739
Eyigun and Sozer play for our youth team so they are eligible. But the inclusion of Germano has me completely stumped. AFAIK only registered players are eligible, so the conclusion must be that he's registered to us, at least temporarily. If so we have only one visa place available, so I don't understand Franjic's published comments on "two foreigners."
haz
Koren injured again http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/7056/ffa-cup/2015/08/03/14108662/eagle-eyed-melbourne-city-wary-of-upset?ICID=HP_HN_HP_RI_0_1John van 't Schip says shock results are inevitable in the FFA Cup but he's determined Melbourne City will not be victims of an upset at the hands of the Edgeworth Eagles on Tuesday night.City, beaten semi-finalists in the A-League last season, are short of available first-team players and lacking match practice, although they acquitted themselves well in a 1-0 friendly loss to sister club Manchester City on the Gold Coast last month.Boasting a record of eight wins and just one loss in their last nine matches, Northern NSW NPL leaders Edgeworth appear prime candidates to pull off a surprise in the round-of-32 action this week. With that in mind, van 't Schip has scouted Damian Zane's team and knows his players must be prepared to face buoyant opponents in Newcastle."We had a look," he said when quizzed on the would-be giant-killers."We have an idea of how they play. We followed the last result, they won on Friday, 2-0 (against South Cardiff). They're leading, six points clear of second (place). There's a good vibe in the club at the moment, knowing they're playing in the FFA Cup against us. "It's a game we have to prepare (for) very seriously. Because from experience we know always there is a surprise (result) and we have to make sure we're not one of them."New signings Aaron Hughes and Michael Zullo could play at least some part in the game against Edgeworth, but there is also a host of absentees for van 't Schip to work around.Asked for an update on City's missing personal, the Dutchman said: "Robi Koren, Corey Gameiro of course, Jacob Melling, Ben Garuccio, Ivan Franjic. Still a lot of boys unavailable. "Injuries from last season, we know, are going to take time. James Brown, David Williams, they're all scheduled for later on to come back."Ivan's looking good but it's too early, the game (on Tuesday). He's going to be in full training when we come back … next week. Same with Marc Marino."Robi's also going to be in full training next week. "The most important thing for our first league game is to have as many back as possible. It looks like we're almost going to have a full squad when the season starts.Given how many first-team players are unavailable, City will not be along among the A-League teams calling up their National Youth League or National Premier League players for Cup action. "We'll have some players on the bench from the NPL team," van 't Schip said."We'll have Wade Dekker, Phil (Philip Petreski) is going to travel up, Luka (Prelevic), Stefan Zinni and Yaren Sozer. Not even Etihad?I think they will be flying directly into WIlliamtown (Newcastle) rather than making the long haul bus trip up from Sydney. Not too many flights go into Newcastle. And have you ever flown business class inside Australia. You get a fat-ass chair for about 10 people and get to get out of the plane 2 minutes early so you can go wait for your bag at the carousel. Not much point flying anything but economy in Australia.
MCFCDion
Preview: Edgeworth Eagles FC vs Melbourne City FCMelbourne City FC’s Westfield FFA Cup campaign commences on Tuesday night when they travel to Newcastle to take on Edgeworth Eagles FC in the Round of 32 at Magic Park.John van’t Schip’s side will have a point to prove in this year’s edition of the tournament after succumbing 3-1 in extra-time at the Round of 32 stage last season, against Sydney FC.City face an Edgeworth Eagles side on the brink of securing the Northern NSW Premier League title, with a 2-0 victory against South Cardiff FC leaving Damian Zane’s men three points clear at the top of the table with just two games remaining. With the Eagles flying high in the league, van’t Schip is wary of complacency and says his side will have to be at their best to avoid becoming the competition’s first A-League scalp.“There’s a good vibe in the club [at Edgeworth] at the moment of course knowing they are playing in the FFA Cup against us,” van’t Schip said.“It’s a game we have to prepare for very seriously because from experience we know there can always be a surprise, and we have to make sure we aren’t one of them.”The match will provide an opportunity for several of the Club’s National Premier League (NPL) players to stake their claim ahead of the upcoming Hyundai A-League season, with the likes of Phil Petreski, Yaren Sozer, Ali Eiygun and Stefan Zinni all making the trip to Newcastle.Striker Wade Dekker is set to feature for the first time since his elevation to the senior list, and van’t Schip says the experience of playing in a high pressure match will prove valuable for the younger members of the squad.“It’s a great opportunity for them to show what they already have done in the last few weeks in training and against Manchester City,” van’t Schip said. “Those players are all getting an opportunity to show their qualities and they have been doing very well.”“A lot of them will get playing time, so it is good to analyse them in circumstances that are difficult and important and see how they deal with the pressure.”“That is why it is good that they have been with us for a few weeks. They know the boys and how we want to play and it is good to look forward to.”After securing a Semi-Final berth in last year’s A-League season, van’t Schip believes that achieving consistency is the key to going a step further this campaign.“It’s very clear that we want to make the next step and that’s what we are going to do for sure. It’s what the club is heading for and it starts with this year,” van’t Schip said.“If you talk about where we can have the progress it is during the regular season, we need to have more consistent performances. We know the play offs is something different again but I think the biggest goal is having a more consistent season, getting in the play-offs and then reaching as high as possible.”Melbourne City FC squad: 2.Mahmut Ali EYIGUN, 3.Aaron HUGHES, 4.Connor CHAPMAN, 5.Ivan FRANJIC, 6.Erik PAARTALU, 8.Aaron MOOY, 9.Harry NOVILLO, 10.Robert KOREN, 11.Michael ZULLO, 13.Jonatan GERMANO, 15.Stefan ZINNI, 17.Wade DEKKER, 18.Paulo RETRE, 19.Philip PETRESKI, 20.Tando VELAPHI (gk), 21.Stefan MAUK, 22.Jack CLISBY, 24.Patrick KISNORBO, 26.Marc MARINO, 27.Luka PRELEVIC, 28.Steve KUZMANOVSKI, 40.Yaren SOZER (gk) Read more at http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/article/preview-edgeworth-eagles-fc-vs-melbourne-city-fc/kxiq212isvy41x968urj7ksfx#Y58zIASy6RofRUYh.
