Dnipro is a side in Ukraine's top flight competition. The team finished 2nd last season, and made the Uefa Champions League qualifiers. There's several non-Ukrainans in their team, including multiple Brazilian players. Also, there's multiple Ukrainian Internationals in Dnipro's squad. Should be good opposition for Melbourne City.

The Ukranian league was a very strong league (as we've seen with Shakhtar in the CL), until recently with the situation in Ukraine, not sure what effect that has had on the league but I know a few clubs were losing a lot of their foreigners.

Regardless, they are probably still a very strong team and I wouldn't expect much from us if they're playing a first team.

Where is this game being played?

Hope we play a different formation using all our best players. So a midfield of mooy paartalu melling with maybe koren in an advanced position with kennedy up front.

Would be massive if we went in with that line-up on Feb 1st!

Redmayne

Germano - Chapman - Kisnorbo - Portuguese LB

Paartalu

Mooy   -   Melling

Koren   -   Kennedy   -   Duff

Bench: Youth Keeper, Hoffman, Sufawan, Dugandzic, Williams/Brown

Certainly would be massive. We'd have 6 visa players for starters...

haha imagine we got that one past the FFA

You can replace Sufawan with Wieleart  ;) Although I remember in the Heart fan forum at AAMI Park (third season), Sidwell said that 6 VISA players was an option for the Heart since it was an allowance granted to WSW and approved by the other A-League clubs...

It's now been reported that the match will be at the same stadium as the last game, the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium:

Melbourne, who have the former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff in their ranks, will next face Ukrainian side FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk behind closed doors at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium on January 18.

Melbourne City players agree ‘lot of things’ to improve after Al Jazira loss

Amith Passela

January 13, 2015

ABU DHABI // John van’t Schip, the Melbourne City coach, said the team’s experience in the UAE will have them in top condition for their return to Australia’s A-League after the Asian Cup.

Melbourne are on a 12-day camp in Abu Dhabi during the domestic league break for the Asian Cup in Australia until January 31 and went down 2-0 to Al Jazira on Sunday at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in their first friendly of the trip.

“Our camp so far has been fantastic. We had only two training sessions hopefully we can get some time to go around and see Abu Dhabi as a city,” the former Dutch international said.

Of losing their game to Jazira, he said: “It was a good game and for us it was a good experience to come down here for a camp and play the local league leaders.

“The result wasn’t what we wanted but, looking at the positives, we had a majority of our players playing the full 90 minutes.

Considering we have been here for only two days we found it a bit difficult with the jet lag.”

Melbourne are set to play a club side from Ukraine in the next friendly but the date has not been decided.

They are mid-table in the A-League at the half-way point of their season and Van’t Schip said he believes the camp will be useful and helpful for the team’s high level training.

He said it would have them well prepared for their match against the Western Sydney Wanderers on February 1 when they return to domestic action.

Patrick Kisnorbo, the Melbourne captain, who made more than 100 appearances for Leicester City in England, said the trip was giving the players a good chance to get focused for the restart of the A-League.

“There are a lot of things we need to do better after the game against Jazira,” he said. “Hopefully we can continue with our training.

“Our focus right now is to raise our level from this camp and be ready for a big game in the A-League that’s coming up. We are concentrating on what we have to do here as a club.”

Damien Duff, 35, who moved to the A-League after spells at Premier League clubs Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Fulham, was looking forward to the training for the rest of the week.

“There is a lot of work in progress to improve our levels and hopefully we can get to where we want to be as quickly as possible,” said the Republic of Ireland international with 100 caps.

“Jazira were impressive. They had some pretty decent players but our task is to make use of this camp and be on readiness for the second half of the A-League.”

15 January 2014

Melbourne City FC face Ukrainian club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk at New York University's Abu Dhabi Campus this Sunday 18 January in the second match of the Club’s Abu Dhabi mid-season tour.

Founded in 1918, Dnipro competes in the Ukrainian Premier League, which consists of 26 matches per season, and is currently third in the league after 14 matches, behind Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk, with 8 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses for a total of 28 points.

Dnipro started the season well but has failed to record a win in its last five matches before the Ukrainian Premier League winter break, which commences in December 2014 and ends next month.

One of the top teams in Ukraine, Dnipro finished last season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, although the side were knocked out in the qualifiers.

Currently progressing through the Europa League, where they regularly make the last 16, Dnipro’s last match was against Saint-Etienne (a 1-0 home win) in the Europa League on December 11.

Their next official match is not util February 19, against Olympiacos in the Europa League (Round of 16), but its players have just arrived back from holidays on January 9.

Myron Markevych, who holds the record for most games coached in the Ukrainian Premier League, coaches Dnipro and the 63-year-old is in his first season in charge of Dnipro, taking over from Juande Ramos.

The club’s key players include 27-year-old Nikola Kalinic, who is a former Blackburn Rovers striker and current striker for the Croatian national team, winger Evgen Konoplyanka and Roman Zozulya.

Mubarak giving van't Schip a left hook while Munn nervously laughs along with the hijinks. Just showing who's da boss man

Always laugh at the owners jokes

He's not the owner. He's the Chairman of Manchester City and also Melbourne City. Closely associated with the ruling family of Abu Dhabi but I don't think he's actually a member of it.
