The best West Indians didn't make themselves available & of course there is also the normal rumours that politics have dominated over cricket in regards to selections.

Not sure who missed out apart from Brendan Nash. Easy to say "racism" in his case, but whilst his experience would be handy, Its also easy to imagine that their selectors feel they can do better than a 37 year old who is playing for Kent seconds? (Even if he has 2 test centuries & considerable Australian experience).

Mind you having guys in your top order with an average of about 10 Is not exactly a recipe for success

Just came here to post a "I told you so" about Burns.

Also good to see the selectors know Khawaja is about to dominate the next 5 years of batting and do some ridiculous shit like 300 run innings and what not.

Somebody already kicked out for drinking a beer out of their shoe. To think soccer fans think they get unfairly treated.

Third test innings >50 of the summer for Burns.

2nd test century of the summer for Burns.

Out for 128, his highest test score.

This must be the worst West Indian team to tour since their inaugural tour (1930/31?) & is also the worst side to come here since Bangladesh played tests in Darwin & Cairns a decade or so ago.

They would be the worst side to ever play at Boxing Day and you have to wonder why on earth they got that gig ahead of New Zealand.

Having said that Burns & Kawaja have batted well. I like the move to b ring Kawaja back in and put him at #3. He looks the part and it makes sense to play him in his long term position. Burns looks ok opening up. Has a weakness outside off but he's hardly unique in that regard. Is dynamite off the back foot, so if you can't bowl 145+ don't bother with the short stuff.

Sorry to be a cunt, but it's going to be hilarious when you get burnt by betting on $1.08 bets.

Especially on t20 cricket, that is not going to end well.

What's the point? You would have made like $15 profit max for all that effort.

Suspect you wont get the chance to find it hilarious as you wont find out about it

I can't believe we've won this ODI. Take a bow Kane Richardson.

Good captaincy from Smith though, bringing the slip in, paid off.

Fuck I wish the BBL didn't blow up so much, cause then cricket would be dead in this country now, and India wouldn't have anyone left to play with because they ruined the fucking sport with their corrupt cheating crap. How you gonna always report other nation's bowlers when every fucking bowler you have has the dodgiest action imaginable? And being given the most BS LBWs, umpires probably been paid off.

Not to say that Australia don't have themselves to blame. Thoroughly deserved this loss because we don't have anyone that can bowl spin in this country, and then you don't even have any good spin bowling imports in the BBL, just a bunch of west indian fast bowlers or batsmen. Clearly spin bowling is a massive weakness in the Australian t20 team because these blokes jsut came from a domestic competition where no one can spin.

Also the inexperience was so obvious, so many wides that could have just been left, instead they were hit for a single or a dot ffs.

Anyway, it's pretty clear India will win the t20 WC in India, Australia have no hope on the Indian pitches.

Surely I'm not the only one hoping for a Pakistan victory tonight.

It will be brilliant, watching how mad the Indians will get losing to Pakistan at home in a World Cup, and pretty much ruining their chances of progression in the world cup as well, can't wait.

And I reckon they can pull it off. Pakistan's bowling is very strong at the moment since the return of Amir, the only question mark is what will the conditions be like. Because if they're like last night's game between England and South Africa where pace bowling was completely ineffective then Pakistan might be in trouble.

I've been waiting for Afghanistan to knock off a test team all WC long, been close a few times. The only surprising thing is that it's the West Indies who have been excellent and are a very good t20 team since their players are basically just t20 mercenaries that play in every domestic competition around the world for the $$$$.

FWIW, this WC has shown that if you have pitches that favour bowlers, then all of a sudden t20 becomes a proper game of cricket. Apart from a few notable exceptions (like the SA vs England game), the bowling sided pitches have really been a feature of this WC and have made it a far better spectacle than it otherwise would be.

fuck me that was the best thing i've seen in my life.

Fold test cricket

Fold one day cricket.

Fold the ICC while you're at it.

Find other countries with superior genetics to play t20 cricket like USA, African countries, etc.

Cricket will take over if all  that happens.

stokes pulled a jvs

No. He is an all rounder. He isn't a specialist bowler. They had the best fast bowler in the world for t20 cricket in Jordan. But they bowled him 2nd last over and left the last over for an all rounder?

Eoin Morgan pulled a JVS.

Meanwhile Sammy brought Brathwaite up as they needed a hitter (pretty sure he bats at #9 usually), good captaincy. And while Brathwaite has the glory, lets not forget that Samuels played the best innings in the history of t20 cricket to get this win.

I think Johnson retiring helped him a lot. Becoming the number 1 quick made him go up a gear

Our batsmen are a joke.

We have such good bowlers and yet every time they get us in a good position, our shit batters fuck us up

Really? Good bowlers 3/300. Current Australian test team is the worst I can remember. I reackon I watched nearly every ball bowled in the 80s summers and we were pretty shit then.

Didn't watch the first innings? Our bowlers are good, starcs a gun, hazlewood and siddle are solid, lyons a bit up and down but for the most part they do the well. The problem is even when they bowl well our batters can never put a good score on the board. Our bowlers can't always be their to bail the batters out

Only watched the first session but we bowled reasonably well for little reward. Going to take something special to get the choccies from here.

Our spinner has a test average of 33 and even worse FC average.

How long has Warne been retired and still not a fucking decent spinner in the country? Everyone that's been tried (apart from the 40yo Pakistani guy) shouldn't even be playing at state level.

Playing a second rate club spinner at international level, and you wonder why he goes 0/146. That's actually a really good performance by him, next time it will be 0/250.

Hand out some citizenships to spinners in India and Pakistan already ffs (and make sure they are under 30 this time).

So we lost a test at home to a team picked on racial grounds (as opposed to merit) with only 3 bowlers. Has to be one of the worst performances I can remember.

Matched pretty closely to the last tour to Sri Lanka. (not so much the results but more the performances).

Will get worse before it gets better. Not many test quality players being developed.

In the mid 80s the problem was our bowling, (after Lillee retired, Lawson broke down and the rebel tour of South Africa). This mob the problem is the batting.

I would have watched or listened to every ball in the 80s too.

At first I thought you were overstating the problem but after yesterday, no you're right. 1985 again, or worse.

Everyone is saying drop this guy and that guy but for that game we made 3 changes and the blokes who came in were terrible. The team is crap and there is no one knocking on the door.

The only option is probably a NZ type approach of picking talented kids and giving them time to learn what's required.

Really tough times ahead. No easy fix either. It's going to get much worse before any improvement.

Could mirror the West Indies demise.
