Would we be opposed to Eugene being our No 1 keeper if it meant we could sign another Aussie (Ikonomidis) and a VISA CentreBack?

Birighitti is coming to City by the rumours I think we need a CB and a attacking player either CF or Wing and we would be compete

If city don’t use the marquee spot well there’s the answer of what CFG think of us.

We we have a visa spot and a spare marquee make sense it will be a visa marquee player

By my calculations, with Florin in and then Dean out, we're back to 16 players actually signed to the squad (excluding Scholarship players). We have to have a minimum of 20.  We've plenty of room in the numbers, it's the cap that we have to watch.

As predicted, it's all happening in this 4-week period.

A bit of confusion overseas regarding Toivonen

Ola Toivonen (31) has found a new club: the attacker leaves France behind and leaves for Australia.
The former PSV has signed a contract with the Australian Melbourne City.
There he will play together with Keisuke Honda and Dutchman Bart Schenkeveld.
https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/337705/toivonen-verlaat-toulouse-en-vertrekt-naar-melbourne-city/

The former Rennais signed in favor of the Australian team Melbourne City.
In two seasons spent on the banks of the Garonne, the 32-year-old footballer has played 58 league games for 7 goals.
"Toulouse FC and all of its supporters wish Ola good luck in this new adventure and thank him for his two seasons in purple," the TFC wrote.

Interesting comment in the article

The signing also suggests a gulf in ambition between Melbourne's two A-League clubs.

Melbourne City, despite the riches of parent club Manchester City, have not made a similar splash in the transfer market this off-season.

Warren Joyce has made six signings, the most recent and high profile of which has been Florin Berenguer, who left French second division club Sochaux

The wankfest over Toivonen is hilarious. The guy hasn't scored more than 7 league goals in a season since 2012. Perfect example of the mentality of the fans and the media in this league to be honest; the name of a signing is apparently the most important quality they provide and anyone who aims less for a glitzy and recognisable one isn't aiming as high as they could.

Let's not let that narrative get in the way of the fact that the Victory won a Grand Final last season thanks to the heroics of a VISA winger who many people scoffed at and Sydney's recent dominance has been on the backs of players with considerably lower profile than guys like Honda, Toivonen or Cahill.

They're more than welcome to their over the hill target man who's been struggling to produce a decent scoring record for years and their Marquee attacking midfielder who was basically stopped in the parking lot on his way into his retirement party. Signings like that being an evidence of 'ambition' are large reason why this league is struggling at the moment IMO. More Fornarolis, Berishas, Georges, Ninkovics, Schenkevelds and Adrians please.

Hardsy wassnt happy

But wait, he kept Ibrahimovic out of the WC apparently. This obviously means we're a fukd club.

@Embee

So Honda and Toivonen are crap, and our baby trade meat are world beaters.

Seriously!

Actually, neither of us said that at all. And don't forget, we frequently disagree, so it's not as if we are some sort of clique of opinion. My point was, and is, that our club expresses its ambition in a different way from the 'Tards.

$50 @playmaker Melbourne City finishes higher than Melbourne Victory after the end of the 2018/2019 premiership (Round 27).

Double or nothing if we finish ahead of them after the finals series too.

Will you take me up on this?

Ugh Ill judge after the first few games. He could flop or destroy the league we'll see.

The good thing is that if he does flop, there squad is going to be thin!

I watch Toulouse a bit and i think he'll go ok here, but won't tear it up. Prob a 10 goal forward that will be seriously dangerous aerially, but wont offer a whole lot in open play. IMO Victory will be relying really heavily on set pieces this year.

The difference we get the best youth and sell them off after 1 good season and they get big names and consistently win trophies that’s the difference of ambition

Since we’ve been City they beat us in SF and won the double in 14/15, FFA Cup next season and championship last  season and consistently made the ACL while we have 1 FFA Cup that’s the difference

What have we done huffed and puffed for no reward there’s the difference of ambition

You're confusing ambition with results.

Aside from that, Arzani is the only youthful player we've "sold off", and let's be honest, not a single club in the league could have kept him after the 6 months and offers he just had.

I don't bet, sorry.

TBH, unless Berenguer and a further signing transforms our front third dynamics, I think we will be outclassed by at least 4 other clubs.

Im hoping for a CB, but hey, I wouldnt say no to Ben Arfa, Sako or Yaya.

If we're making guesses, id be looking in the €1m-€600k range
