Nate
i actually rate him quite highly, and for a back up, compared to other clubs would be great! he'd demand wages too high for a first choice keeper, let alone a back up.

If so, he may sign up for a couple grand a week and he and Tando would be challenging each other, which would help both of them...

jw1739
If we dont get Sorensen, which I belive we wont.. who should we target? For me Brad JonesI'd be interested to know why you think not? He's got only 890 km to go on his bike ride, so he'll be back in the UK within a week or so. My own reading of the situation is that we are intending to sign (or have signed) a GK with Premier League experience, and I see Sorensen as being on the short list if nothing else. I could see him with us for a season or two and then finding a niche within the CFG coaching structure.

Logic.... Edited August 9, 2015 by n i k o
Pete Heartspur
So we have five visa spots and you would want one of the to potentially be a keeper who's on the bench because Tando is far superior to him? Logic....I may have misread your post, but Brad Jones is Australian yeah?

Shahanga
Not as far as I can make out.Yeah my mistake, I think he was linked and it must have either have fallen through or been over hyped in the first place.TBH I don't know how anyone can categorically say anything about Jones. The guy has played 11 games in 4 seasons. I assumed he's handy, simply due to the clubs he's been at (and that he's been in out of the socceroos), but I can't say I've seen him play much. Thrillhouse
rumours were jones want to stay in england cause of his wife, would rather get spoonley as back up keeper than that overpaid spastic
kingofhearts
Just let Tando be our number 1 and sign a promising youth keeper as back-up ffs.I reckon too many people are reading into tandos one "bad" game against the tards in the semi-final last year. While he didn't have the best game that day he had been pretty solid since he had been back in the team during that season. It would just be such a waste to use a visa spot on a position we already have covered.

Tando is too erratic and he had several very ordinary matches, not just one. We won't win silverware with him as No. 1.
Nate
Disagree. Tando is too erratic and he had several very ordinary matches, not just one. We won't win silverware with him as No. 1.you could say that regarding just about any keeper in the league, except for maybe Vukovic. Is Federici suddenly a bad goalkeeper because of his blunder in the FA Cup final? Of course not. Tando was one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the league last season (with the statistics to back it up) and he had to deal with pretty ordinary defenders in front of him as well. And I'd also like to reiterate a point already made on the forum, Victory won silverware with Coe for crying out loud. There are many other positions on the pitch that need addressing beforehand.
Tesla
It doesn't matter who we sign, Tando will take the number 1 spot.Sop might as well just sign the best keeper we can get on the minimum salary.

If it is from EPL and a foreign gk, I've always been under the impression it would be Speroni..
jw1739
It's a team game, not won or lost by one player. We struggled into 6th Place (before Perth were demoted) because we had, overall, a weak squad. We were way off the class of Victory and Sydney. I'm all for strengthening every single position in the squad if we can, so if we can strengthen our GK stocks I'm all for doing it.

Jones' saving grace is the fact he counts as a 'home grown' player in the Premier League squad registration rules. He's been fortunate that the stocks of English goalkeepers have been sufficiently shit enough to enable him to make a living warming the pine instead of the club having to waste a valuable spot on the roster on a non home grown player. If he didn't have his English passport, he wouldn't have been anywhere near the Premier League.
Dylan
The only thing that makes sense of Sorrenson comming out of retirement is that we are offering some kind of player/coach role, obviosly benefiting Tando as well. There is no doubt that a good keeper is worth a substantial amount of points during a season and not just in terms of saves but defensive organization
mulhollanddrive
That's a new way to get around the cap.Pay coaching wages this season, and player wages when you're coach and not salary capped next season.

Captain Obvious
Haven't posted here in a while (please refrain from the jokes about my username this time)As a Stoke fan I can say that Sorro is a legend of our club. One of the greatest keepers we've ever had, always felt comfortable with him inbetween the sticks, even when he's had to fill in on rare occasions over the last couple of seasons. He's not as washed up or as blunder-prone as some on here believe. He'd be a handy signing for us and his advice/coaching towards both Tando and the youth keepers at the club could be invaluable.

jw1739
Sorensen has two days left on his ride across the U.S. If we're serious about him I think we'll know the answer within a week or so.
