From the Adelaide supporters thread on BigFooty. Theyre cooked atm.

GF side:

Galekovic
Marrone - McGowan - LaRocca - Goodwin
Isaias
Mauk - Carrusca
Kamau - Djite - Cirio

Hall, Elrich, Elsey, Mells, Pablo

Best XI right now:

Galekovic
Elrich - McGowan - LaRocca - Garuccio
Isaias
Mells - Carrusca
Kitto - Marino - Cirio

Hall, Elsey, Makarounas, O'Doherty, Henrique

Just over a month until the season starts and that's 6 changes to the 16 man team, with 4 starters and 2 bench gone (Marrone out until next year). With the signings we've made so far, only Kitto is really worth a start IMO. The rest, to me, are bench players. So the next few signings we make HAVE to be first XI quality IMO (and they should be).

On the topic of shit squads, I know the Wanderers have a shit squad every season (Popovic somehow manages to make them gel) but they look EXTREMELY shit on paper this season with their five Visa signings in particular seeming really average on the surface.

But maybe it's a legitimate strategy, and maybe they'll all turn out to be superstars and win the league but idk.

Jordan Elsey second ACL injury. Full reconstruction.

Perhaps they'd like Malik back again?

Suspect theyll go after Topor-Stanley.

Theyve signed Sergi Guardiola from Grenada and are rumoured to be poised to sign James Holland. Obviously strengthens them a bit, but perhaps underwhelming signings given their significance. Think they'll struggle to make the six this year.

Have signed Izzo from Central Coast.

Although Izzo gets a lot of shit against him, considering he is still very young for a keeper and how much he improved this season (playing for a shit team). I can see him being a very good pick up if United can retain him for 3+ seasons.

Amor has quit Adelaide.

Wednesday, 10 May 2017 -

Adelaide United have confirmed on Wednesday that Championship-winning coach Guillermo Amor will leave the club.

Amor, who has been with the Reds for three seasons, advised chairman Greg Griffin of his decision to step down on Wednesday.

The Spanish boss joined the club as its Technical Director for the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 campaign, where he worked closely with Josep Gombau.

Amor then took over as coach ahead of the 2015/16 Season and - in his first senior coaching role - guided the Reds to an historic Hyundai A-League Premiership-Championship double.

It has been reported Amor will return to his homeland but the ex-Spain international has long been considered a candidate for Melbourne City, who are also looking for a new coach.

Amor came up through the youth ranks at Barcelona before making his senior debut in 1988 and he went on to play over 300 La Liga matches for the club, while also spending time at Fiorentina and Villarreal.

United have already commenced a recruitment process to appoint a new coach and hope to have a new man in charge by mid-June before they begin their pre-season schedule.

A-League latest news: Adelaide United close to signing Marco Kurz as new head coach

  • June 5, 2017 2:58pm
  • Source: AAP

ADELAIDE United are tight-lipped on speculation a former Bundesliga manager will be the next coach of the A-League club.

German Marco Kurz is close to agreeing to terms to join the Reds, Fairfax Media is reporting.

An Adelaide United spokesman is refusing to comment on the report as the club searches for a replacement for Spanish coach Guillermo Amor, who departed at the end of the A-League season.

Kurz has had extensive coaching experience in his native Germany over the past decade, including a stint with FC Kaiserslautern in the top-flight Bundesliga.

The 48-year-old, who had a distinguished playing career in Germany, was most recently coach of Fortuna Dusseldorf in the second Bundesliga - a tenure that lasted just four months until he was sacked in March last year.

Argentinian great Gabriel Batistuta has also been linked with Adelaide since the exit of Amor, who delivered the Reds a first A-League championship in 2015-16.

But Adelaide, hampered by an exodus of players after their title, struggled under Amor in the recently-completed season, finishing ninth with only five wins.

A fan, but its just the pattern of 90% of Aussies going overseas.

True. I wish he had stayed one more season and established himself as one of the better midfielders in the comp, which he could have done. Time will tell whether he has made the right call but he certainly has the goods to be a good European-level footballer. In any case CB is a good club so I hope he makes the most of it.

If it happens then another nail in the current FFA's coffin. Well off owners are more likely to stand up to Lowy et al than struggling owners who can be easily bought by FFA for a few measly shekels. Also a vote of confidence in Australian football or maybe just confidence that the current A-league model will be changing.

Seems the sale of Adelaide to international (Chinese & Dutch ?) buyers is all but done.

Will the newest foreign owned team overtake City in the standings next season or after? Would lol if this hapens, only took Newcastle two seasons.
