Aaron Mooy

Wow didnt realise how softly spoken he is. For someone that has a bit of mongrel in him, he sounds a bit like a pussy.

What's actually happening is he's penetrating your mind with his words and just moving his lips so as to give the impression he is talking (you know - to avoid mutant bigotry). Unfortunately he normally doesn't speak (no need) so his lips can't move much and the combination of these things is giving you that impression.

Is that another way of saying "f*cked his brains out"?

Mooy getting good reports in the media this week:

Ā

4. Aaron Mooy isn't in the Socceroos to make up the numbers

Ā

We in Australian football are all guilty of jumping the gun, not least when it comes to picking the next young star. Aaron Mooy has been placed in the "potential" box since he was on the books at Bolton Wanderers but the Melbourne City gun finally seems to be blooming into a dominant midfielder, not just a a pair of tricky feet. His display against Brisbane Roar was as elegant as we've seen from a true central midfielder in years. He is hitting the line like Protectionist for Asian Cup selection.

Ā

Contrary to a certain Dutchman, we think you can pick a team comprised entirely of players plying their trade on these shores and still match it with the best

[ā€¦]

Ā

Five years on from Verbeek's Canberra nadir, here's whoĀ Goal AustraliaĀ believes would be the best men for the job after five rounds of the 2014-15 season:

Ā

Midfield - Luke Brattan, Aaron Mooy, Carl Valeri

Ā

With Erik Paartalu highly impressiveĀ (what a pass for Mate Dugandzic on Saturday night)Ā but still finding his feet back in the A-League, we've giving Luke Brattan the national team recognition many feel is long overdue for the unerringly accurate young holder.

Ā

Ahead of him, Aaron Mooy has been a standout since joining Melbourne City, combining with Paartalu to demolish Brisbane Roar 3-1 away from home. Postecoglou has certainly been impressed by the former Wanderer, picking him in the squad for next week's Japan friendly.

Really missed him today, safe to say if he gets injured we are FUCKED! Unless Koren comes back and does well

Ā

He is very important to us. However, we showed again today we can create chances and we are stronger going forward than going backwards.

Ā

Hopefully Mooy will give us that little extra that takes us over the finishing line

Really shocked to see McKay starting over Mooy in the Socceroos game........

Not sure that shocking is the word considering McKay is a mainstay in the Socceroos squad and Mooy is a fringe player, plus McKay is Ange's lovechild due to their time at the Roar together.Ā

Ā

Hopefully Mooy gets some minutes though.

Absolutely infuriates me to see us lose Aaron Mooy for a vital club match, and then see him not brought on until the 87th minute of the international.

Correct....what did he show or even had a chance to prove in less than 5 minutes.

Why bother AP ???

At least Give him 20 min

5 minutes does suck but at the same time, the positive is that he was still selected ahead of Brillante, Holland and Bozanic in midfield.Ā

Ā

With the Asian Cup looming ever closer, this little cameo for Mooy means he's going to be trying extra hard for us to make sure he stays in contention and pushes for a starting XI berth.Ā

Why was he there to play 5 minutes. Ā What did Postecoglou learn from that?

Ā

the only thing that i can think of is that the Socceroos were in camp for a week first. Ā at least it gave Ange 7 days (not heaps but something) to work with Mooy.

Ā

far from ideal with my City cap on / from a City perspective, but in terms of the Socceroos it gives Ange a better idea of who he thinks will / can work best with for the Asian Cup

Really agree with this. Ange obviously started with a plan to test a few players, but going down 2-0 decided to bring on Bresciano and Cahill to ?? salvage something. If he wanted to win the game he should have started with his strongest team, if he wanted to test players he should have been more inventive at the end. Not really sure what he was trying to achieve - really disappointing.

Is anyone any the wiser after this? Is the default option to go back to the old brigade when things are bad? Let's be honest, this was a match that meant little and the one week camp was probably far more important. An opportunity lost for fringe players to push their case.

Speaking of the Socceroos, did anyone else think it was like watching the Heart play in a yellow top?

Ā

Pass pass pass possession possession possession pass back to defence, back to keeper, back to defence, pass pass pass, etc etc etc...and in the end had nothing to show for it apart from a better possession percentage than their opposition.

Ā

Oh yeah...and we lost.

A lot of teams play back to the keeper and not just us. And many situations call for it, for lack of ability and technical skill we don't have enough outlets to get through when a team such as japan presses us higher up the pitch. The alternative is we try play forward, lose the ball in a poor position, and get exposed with the speed and technical ability of the majority of teams we are constantly up against which more often than not will lead to a goal.

Ā

oh yes, and even more than that it was "play high tempo, high pressing" and then die in the second half.

Ā

it was obvious within 5 minutes of the second half that we were being out run in the middle, and Postecoglou did exactly nothing. Ā Take off Luongo and McKay at half time and put on Mooy and one of Nichols (by default) and Bresciano (really the guy cannot play more than 30 minutes) would have been my master stroke.

My conclusion is that the players take too much time to think when they have the ball. By the time they come to pass the ball the forward options are closed off and so the ball goes sideways or backwards.Ā

Ā

Against CCM this was so obvious with Kisnorbo and Hoffman and their awful "service" to Duff. It has become so habit-forming with Hoffman that his first instinct when receiving the ball is to position his body for the backwards/sideways pass. Give JvS his due - in the first half he was screaming at these two to change their play - to no avail unfortunately.
