Surprised there was no comment about this.

I consider this is a significant change to the previous model - its obvious they are moving away from the one college and looking to have multiple locations now, so based on the tone of that announcement more schools will come.  If it can be done well and they don't add too many schools (ie lose their quality control) then i think multiple outlets are a good idea.  Most parents aren't going to send their kid across Melbourne to John Fawkner college.

As has been previously discussed this "college of football" is in effect our academy and if can be done well it will underwrite the basis for our team for years to come.

Also for those wondering what Joe Palatasides job is now, the announcement says he is "head of academy" (or something similar).

I was wondering about Joe, then I saw him in one of the articles about it. Glad that he is still apart of it and this role seems to be what interests him the most. I still hope they make the most of the room they have at Latrobe, a couple of more pitches and perhaps a mini stand and match facilities and really make it seem like a normal club with different ages and levels of teams so when someone says we are playing at home, everyone knows where to go.

Really, that is the best way to build a 'club' rather than marketing garbage. Oh and the more symbiotic the relationship with Latrobe is the better it will be for both. Latrobe is re -known for its health science courses and now has a professional sporting team on campus I would think would be a unique benefit.

To bring it back to what you were saying Shahanga, I agree that this is a way better model given how geographically big Melbourne is and how hard it is to travel across the city rather than 'into' it.

The college of football has yet another "affiliate school", Overnewton College: http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/article/overnewton-college-joins-as/17zy58ey7q6av1t9hw3calsvp7.

Counting John Fawkner College, that's 4 affiliate schools by my count: John Fawkner College, Eltham College, Trinity Grammar School and Overnewton College.

That's my old school. Big change from when I was there and we only had interschool sports twice a year
