bt50
Everything isnt as it seems here. The FFA have handled this appallingly from a PR perspective, but to some degree their hands are tied given the nature of what has gone down. jw1739
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/this-has-trashed-our-brand-gallop-faces-review-over-stajcic-axing-20190212-p50xam.html If this was a script for a TV serial it would be believable. In real life it just gets worse and worse. The sacking should never have occurred the way it did. Even if it is a justified sacking, surely the Board would have had the sense to say "Let's just sit on this for a week or two and make sure we've done everything right here before we go ahead." Jacques Le Cube
I you haven't already seen it, here is the piece Bonita Mersiades wrote 3 days after Stajcic was removed. https://footballtoday.news/features/ffa-board-confronts-their-first-governance-challenge-with-alen-stajcic-decision Its well worth a read. Bonita actually received a threatening email from an FFA board member the day after publishing it. Here is an article from 5 years ago where Heather Reid complains about the lack of transparency around the removal of Stajcic's predecessor Hesterine de Reus: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/player-powerled-sacking-of-matildas-coach-worries-act-boss-20140418-zqwai.html The irony.

jw1739
Bit the dust at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven 3-0 in front of 30,000+. Worth a look at the Dutch - especially their third goal. https://www.myfootball.com.au/video/full-time-highlights-netherlands-v-australia
Dylan
Looks like Staj is about to experience the rare air where his backers can and will make all of these over the top predictions of what would have happened if he was still in the job. this will gloss over the year up to when he was sacked. The Matilda’s has started to wobble quite a bit

Kerr equalising at the death was a huge moment, as was micah’s pen save. Into the semis now, which is really the big time.

Harrison
Strange referee call to disallow our goal. Was it a foul because one of our players obstructed a defender? From what I could see there was no obstruction, our players were competing fairly for the ball or were standing still. Players have a right to their position. Was it offside because they interfered in play? Odd because they weren’t exactly near the ball and Kerr was the first in the line. Why not let the play unfold and then let VAR review it? Why not let the play unfold and then let VAR review it? I think your question hits the nail on the head. Why not let VAR review it, especially given how they were refraining from calling offsides (even obvious offsides). That being said the ref did call a similar foul up the other end so at least she was consistent.

Why not let the play unfold and then let VAR review it? fouled for 'blocking' a defender during the set piece, but the matildas stood their ground, arms by their side and did not move to prevent a swedish defender from making a run to defend the freekick. It was a really scandalous and dogshit referee call and did not bother utilising the VAR. The olympic referees have been extremely poor and should go back to grass root leagues Edited August 3, 2021 by Young Polak
NewConvert
Watched the Matildas vs Brazil last night. Both sides have plenty of work to do but for sheer bloody commitment (and bloody is the word) that was top notch. Never took a step backward and the set pieces were great. Then we don't lodge a bid to hold women's Asian Cup matches here in Melbourne. https://www.footballvictoria.com.au/homeofthematildas/project-overview (website out of date - see "bookings." This is why I say that these facilities are a total waste of time, resources, effort, and money. "So much paid by so many for so little" to paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill.
