One of the most interesting 'acheivments' of the Howard era was the Government convincing the popoluation that private debt was in some way more admirable than public debt.

I would have thought it was the fact it was the able to win three consecutive elections with relative ease considering the current situation we have in Parliament House myself.

So I guess private debt has nothing to do with poor government spending and poor policy?

Funny I havnet once heard the ALP use your 'insightful' point when discussing the Howard era and their own current debt situation. They obviously know something you don't.. In fact the trend lately has been to praise the Howard governemnt and convince the australian people that the liberal party has changed into some evil cult run by a sexist nut job. Howard done an excellent job with economy and only a one eyed lefty would disagree.

Our public debt may only be a fraction of our private but the fact still remains.. Someone has to fill this 230bil hole created by the ALP..

If riding a wave of manufactured xenophobia to an election win can be considered an achievement, then I guess the Howard Govt was quite successful then.

The classic argument from the Left to explain any of their political Failures:

"Ordinary PPL are Stupid and thus Brainwashed by Conservative Parties." :droy:

Not quite, you're drawing a very long bow and missing the point.

There was no attempt to explain a failure of the left, it was more a concession that the Howard Govt successfully* manipulated public opinion by playing on the underlying xenophobic fear of the electorate in order to win office in 2001.

* at least until the Senate inquiry found that they misled the public for political gain.

Cadete from your time in politics you'd probably know about this (mind you I am an admirer of Howard on the whole) he pretty much hyper-inflated the economy in his last three years. Too many tax cuts to rich people just caused this huge bubble and led to the GFC.

What he did was run budget surplus' (which was fantastic), yet in reality they happened to be cyclical budget deficits, which rooted the economy a bit. See during the GFC we should've cut individual tax, not when the economy was about to explode (2005-2008).

That is the only major thing the Howard Government did poorly in my opinion that no one has really looked into enough.

Howards tax cuts led to the GFC?

Gezz that's a new one.

So the reason why the Howard Government was re-elected time after time was purely because the Australian Electorate are Rascists.

So I guess as someone who once voted for Howard I am now:

A Rascist, as well as a Fascist and of course a Sexist

No, but it did lead to the budget deficit and thus to the so called 'debt crisis' we're in.

I guess pink bats, school halls, useless desalination plants and an explosion of boat people.. (the list goes on) hasn't cost a cent huh?

It's what the ALP do.

Keating racked up 100 Bil debt and it took Howard 8 years to not only clear it but leave us 20 bil in the black. The GFC can't be blamed every time, it gets old fast. Open your eyes mate, these idiots have no clue.

Yeah, how dare a government adopt an expansionary fiscal stance by investing in Aggregate Supply such as Schools and Desalination plants order to try and prevent economic doom whilst also attempting to sure up a sustainable economic future. They must have no clue, sack them all.

I'm not attacking their ideas, after all communism worked in theory. Execution lacked.

Not going to re-enter the debate of communism being ever 'executed', but due to the economy's largely in tact status - especially when compared to other OECD states i would probably say that the stimulus was executed pretty well?

The BER ranged from school to school well done to a pathetic waste of funds - Depending on which Education System or State. There are over 100's of teachers in Australia that will testify it was a waste of money for their schools. :droy:

The PINK BATS Scheme was so poor it cost lives, lost Garrett both his portfolio and needed an Official Removal Scheme which was then performed largely by the exact same instant companies that installed the Bats in the first place and cost lives. :droy:

The NSSP (National School's Solar Plan) lead to a similar quality of poorly installed Systems by another whole bunch of Instant Companies that no longer even exist. :droy:

Millions were wasted on all three of these Schemes, and the only real winners were the Shoddy Instant Companies that scooped up the government's money.

When the money was wasted in the BER it was mostly the fault of the state governments - which were probably to be fair at the time ALP. That isn't to say that every school got fucked over. Go have a look at Balwyn high school and tell me that their new buildings were a waste of time and poorly invested. Anecdotal evidence of teacher saying their school missed out isn't any sort of outcome of economic benefit or loss from a policy

Pink Bats shocking, i agree.

But what about the investments in Rail, Roads and Ports during the same period that you have so conveniently not mentioned?

Seeing as I had to read the whole of Govt's findings on The BER, I know for a fact that the Govt itself admits the whole program was very hit and miss and I agree there are a lot of school's that benefitted greatly from the program.

However a lot really did not all.

As for the Road, Rail and Port Schemes .

They kind of get pushed to the side when you have millions of mispent dollars on the Bats Scheme, the DER, Parts of BER, and NSSP.

Just ask any schoolkid on here about what they do with their school laptop from DER and u will see what a waste of time and dollars this program was for the nation!

Sorry but i don't think giving kids laptops is a bad idea, even if they do watch porn half the time. Release financial burden on parents etc.

Watch as this one keeps growing bigger and bigger...

:oops::oops::oops::oops:

There was a very good reason why Ms Gillard was passed on for Pre-election by her own Party a number of times before her Union Mates finally did enough deals to get her the nod.

The best thing is we are only at halfway of this little story.

would like to be at home watching parilament rather than at work, interesting days ahead. Still hold the opinion that based on S&G's internal investigations there was no wrongdoing.

I was told the whole of the Gillard BF story even before Rudd lead the ALP back into power, and from a Source on the ALP that is as solid as they come...

Keep watching as things get more and more interesting.
